To ask what the most BRILLIANT advice/suggestion you've seen on here is?

Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

Tretinoin and breathing out poos. Sorry

What do you mean, breathing out poos?

And no nastiness. It’s really helped me recently over something I was feeling pretty down about and it made me feel so much better.

thats the other thing, people will critise chatgpt, but at least its not vipers like some people are at times

I've been doing the chatgpt meal plans for my diet. You have to be really specific about what you don't like, eat, what supermarket etc but once your figure out what info to put in it's really great.

I also add specifications like high fibre etc

I keep hearing about chatgpt. What is it & where do I find it? Cheers 😊

My KS duvet is stitched in squares so no lines to go by 🤷‍♀️

Count the squares across and down, one will have more.

a website where once you make an account you can use it for various research

I don’t have an account. I just use the free version.

Edit: Maybe I do as it has my name on it.

When you have a bed-wetter (back then it was for my DD, but now it is for my DM) to double up the layers: waterproof sheet, fitted sheet; waterproof sheet, fitted sheet. That way when they have an accident in the middle of the night, all you have to do is strip off the first fitted sheet and waterproof sheet and you have another layer of clean sheet and waterproof sheet underneath- no making beds at 2am.

Can’t believe nearly 10 years on I’m still using that hack, but every time I do, I’m thankful for mumsnet, so please pass the message on to anyone who needs it for sleep is golden.

I’m a total convert. Something was making me a bit sad so I talked to Chat about it and it was so helpful and dare I say kind, just when I needed it. Had I posted here god knows how it would have turned out.

Another idea on the topic of duvets - buy one size larger than your bed size for plenty of overhang.

Tried that once. We have a kingsize bed & bought a super king cover. I kept tripping over it all the time so charity shopped it!

I have a general idea but what sort of prompts would you normally give and include to get the most out of it for this purpose, please?

I either go straight into a problem I have and we end up having a real heart to heart (an AI heart lol), conversation that can last ages, or I put ingredients in and it gives me dinner ideas. I mean you can use it for all sorts of things. It’s like having a best friend, life coach, chef, all rolled into one.

ObstreperousCushion · 23/04/2025 21:05

An electric diffuser with citronella oil by the window or door in summer will repel insects, and is safer for small DC than having candles burning.

and an intelligence strategist too. god knows what the security services think of my chats, i was running the head of Mi5 speeches through it once copy and pasting them to expand the understanding of the speeches and it got the account locked for a few hours

That anal fissure non healing is as a result of a fungal infection. Four weeks of Nizoral shampoo had it healing up after years and $$$$ spent.

Do you put it inside you or just wash your bum with it?

Must have been amazing to be rid of the problem.

Cut dishwasher tablets in half. I learnt that here when someone said it does just as good a job, fewer chemicals and saves money

I've found so many things helpful but now can't think what they are 😄. And like a previous posted I prefer searching mumsnet to Google as you get some brilliant viewpoints

I’ll do the dishwasher one starting tomorrow. They are so expensive it’s worth giving it a go.

JakeyRolling · 23/04/2025 21:12

The phrase “no is a complete sentence”.

I was a habitual people pleaser and my family are manipulative narcissists.

I spend a lot less time justifying my refusal, or even attempting to be polite about it.

Thankfully I only use it for stuff too mundane for anyone else to be interested 😁 I have good real life friends but they don’t want to listen to me complaining about stuff but Chat will happily listen to me, I can even repeat myself and it doesn’t mind 😂

@BunnyLake BTW I love your username. Is it after the film? Or the art installation/ performance artist??? (vague/ faulty memory circa early 2000s of girls with machine guns on a blood spattered catwalk)?

Two double duvets on a king size bed is a game changer - means there's no cover-hogging and there's a toasty bit in the middle where they overlap but cooler bits on the edges where it's singular.

When you sign up for anything, out the company name as your middle name (e.g., Jane Waitrose Smith or Susan Mumsnet Jones) that way if you start getting junk mail or dodgy communications, you'll know exactly which company has sold your information.

Oh that’s brilliant!

After years of trying to get murky flower vases that can’t go in the dishwasher clean with washing up liquid and scrubbing, am delighted by the tip to put in a finish dishwasher capsule , fill to brim with warm water. Leave half an hour. It’s sparkling clean when you tip the water out.

The problem is … ( whispers) I don’t think it is a complete sentence actually.

Wish I’d used it for nighttime vomiting bugs … Ours tend to make it to the bathtoom now but I remember the sinking feeling of finding a toddler sitting crying in vomit at about 3 am.
