To ask what the most BRILLIANT advice/suggestion you've seen on here is?

Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

🤯

I have just changed my superking duvet and got out the tape measure. I was delighted to see that whether the scallop pattern is upside down or right way up, it is longer wide than long and has been correctly inserted into the duvet since we got it.

Delphinium20 · 23/04/2025 17:53

You just told me something that in the half century I've been alive, I had no idea. Thank you!!!

It all makes so much sense now...

Coverless duvets! So easy to wash and dry, and no more wrangling with duvet covers.

Why is a whole duvet easier to wash and dry than a cover and sheets? Surely it bulks up the machine and takes longer to dry?

It Is genius.

I have a general idea but what sort of prompts would you normally give and include to get the most out of it for this purpose, please?

LaMarschallin · 23/04/2025 18:00

Thank you so much, @CharlotteBakewell , that's really helpful 💐
Off I go to play!

Whoever suggested the colour analysis by Chat GBT. Thank you!

The one that sticks out for me is someone helpfully pointing out that if you have a king size or super king bed then the duvet goes ACROSS the bed horizontally, rather than vertically (if that makes sense).

I am ashamed to admit I've spent roughly 30 years with a superking bed, assuming that the stitching on the duvet ran from head to foot and grumbling that my duvet never fitted properly inside the cover.

Turning the duvet 90 degrees inside it's cover was life changing!

Whoa WHAT?! I have the same issue and was about to buy a new duvet! I’m absolutely going to try this first!!!!

Can I ask the dosage, please and where you get them from? Getting desperate! Thanks!

I use blada pure from amazon. I take 2 every morning but you could do 1 am and 1 pm. I'm the same as pp, had a long history of uti and haven't had 1 since taking these (started in Oct 24). Took them on holiday last week as too much booze plus sex would 100% leave me suffering, but not this time! I pay around £20 for a big pot (60 or 90 I can't remember) worth every penny

JungAtHeart · 23/04/2025 18:30

The concept of DARVO. I’d never heard of it but experienced it a lot! It was amazing to be able to name the behaviour and call out the abuse. Weaponised incompetence. Experienced it but never knew it was a thing.

Sortalike · 23/04/2025 18:39

There's so much I've picked up from various posters over the years but my favourites are:

Cook once, eat twice. Just made cottage pie for tea, so made two - one's going in the freezer ready for another day.

One thing in, One thing out. I've stuck to this for years, and apply it to pretty much everything (other than food...) It's amazing how much stuff you accumulate, and this stops me frittering money on unnecessary things.

Always take a 4 gang extension socket on holiday so you only need 1 adaptor plug.

Pick your battles.

That’s called common sense - measuring the thing. Who would have thought! My less technical solution was laying it out on the floor on top of the duvet cover to check the rotation, marking T and D and never worrying again.

I didn't think we had got it wrong, so I measured it today to check. We haven't ever inserted duvet into the cover incorrectly.

I got random brand from Amazon. It's for my DH, he was hospitalised with a really bad attack last year. Doctors said there's nothing wrong with him! All tests done, prostate etc. Nada.

FleaBeeBob · 23/04/2025 19:05

I have a double bed and my DCs had single and the flap trying to find the write sheet/duvet case drove me mad. Then ping! I changed and out double duvets/covers/sheets for all beds even when DCs still had single beds

LovelyCupOfTeaThankYou · 23/04/2025 19:06

That I can buy steroid cream online. Brilliant to be able to bypass seeing the GP and suffering until I can actually get an appointment with the GP!

Only problem with this is when your SKS duvet has lines in both directions so the filling is trapped in squares all over the duvet. I keep saying I’m going to write top/bottom on the duvet in Sharpie but forget every time!

Londonmummy66 · 23/04/2025 19:09

To write on glass jars with an ordinary Sharpie when using them to store things in the fridge (left over stock, cream, soup etc). The sharpie washes off in the dishwasher. I now also use them on storage jars for rice and grains etc. Sadly it doesn't wash off reuseable freezer bags - I'd love to know what would.....

EatingHealthy · 23/04/2025 19:17

TheignT · 22/04/2025 19:29

My duvets haven't heard of this. Three double beds, 3 duvets all for double bed size, two have stitching from top to bottom and the other has them side to side. Blows my mind every time I change a bed as I forget which is which.

Others may have already said this but a double duvet is a square. You can have the lines running any way you want.

Sadworld23 · 23/04/2025 19:17

Maitri108 · 22/04/2025 16:15

I can't remember anything brilliant but I often adopt ideas. Someone here suggested putting a paint roller onto the broom handle to paint high ceilings. I did exactly that. A long time ago I read about soda crystals here and have used them ever since, in fact I bulk buy.

I'm sure there are more.

Ooh where do you get them from, side crystals are unheard of in shops here.

Do you need a prescription for Tretinoin

I get them in any supermarket. They're so useful and incredibly cheap! A handful in an empty washing machine on a hot wash really cleans it out.

PinotDragon86 · 23/04/2025 19:19

I tried the duvet set in a pillowcase and wasnt a fan, cant put my finger on why either just didnt like it. I instead have a full bedding set on a sturdy coat hanger in my wardrobe. Also instead of pins in duvet covers I sewed ribbon on the inside corners of the duvet and the cover and then just tie them together to stop them shifting about.
The best piece of advice I had (which was when I discovered mumsnet) was that a certain issue I had was in fact a lost tampon which probably saved me from TSS

Worriedmotheroftwo · 23/04/2025 19:20

Two things from mumset that have changed everything for me:

  1. advice on assessments for my autistic son, and getting an EHCP. Thanks to mumsnet users, he is now thriving. Forever grateful.
  2. Mounjaro weight loss injections! I first heard of them on here. It's been 6 months and I've lost more than 4 stone. I feel (and look) like myself again. 😊
