Squeak squeak burrow burrow. Is that a ferret reversing?

Use men’s or women’s toilets based on biological sex, minister says

It’s not about women who are transgender.

It’s about these imaginary cis men who were all going to rock up to the ladies loo wearing a dress, pretending to be trans women, and now they can walk into the ladies’ without the dress, pretending to be trans men 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Is it ok as long as they wear the dress then? If they were “imaginary” when it suited your agenda, they’re “imaginary” now too.

PlanetJanette · 22/04/2025 13:57

WallaceinAnderland · 22/04/2025 13:50

Who are all these people who cannot discern a person's sex just by looking at them?

In person, people who are transgender are usually very obvious. My son has a female best friend. She has transitioned, has a beard, wears clothes bought from the boys section and yet is still very obviously female. She doesn't even look like a short man. She looks like a woman with a fake beard. Which let's face it, is entirely what she is.

Likewise men who think they pass. They don't. Not even 'well known' transwomen in the public eye. You can see how they stoop when standing for photos, etc. trying to make themselves look smaller. Their gait is visibly male. This can't be changed.

It's time to stop pretending that people can't tell and just accept that some people like to present as the opposite sex and that's fine for them but it doesn't change their sex and they are not above the law.

Why do you think there are numerous examples of cisgender women being harassed in women's bathrooms by people who think they are men, if you genuinely believe it is always possible to tell what someone's biological sex is?

ScrewedByFunding · 22/04/2025 13:57

macaroniandcheeze · 22/04/2025 13:48

Do you really think men are never at risk of violence from other men??!

Of course they are. But why is your solution to let some of them use the female bathrooms?

This makes me sad - do we really want transwomen to have to use men's toilets, and transmen to have to use women's toilets? This will put transwomen at risk - I hate the hysteria that has arisen over this issue.

Yes we do.

macaroniandcheeze · 22/04/2025 13:47

No one here is a winner.
Our complete lack of humanity in society at the moment is disgraceful.

I fear for all the trans women, non conforming women, and androgynous presenting people in society today.

Well good to know they have a friend in you, as Woody says.

Me, I am standing up for the half of humanity who don’t need to identify or present since they know they are women because

A) every cell in their body and every stage in their progression through life says so,

and

B) their collective memory reminds them that they have been fucked over, minimised, betrayed, abused, beaten, raped, robbed, dehumanised, enslaved and exploited by the other half of humanity since evolutionary genetics decided we were a binary species.

Everyone has the right to feel safe, men, women, trans women and trans men. I would worry just as much about a trans woman and a trans man using the toilets of their biological sex due to the bigotry and hatred shown to them. Perhaps individual cubicles with no gender assigned is the way to go.

Women have the right to women's toilet facilities. My office is shared space and there are women's toilets, men's toilets and this room full of lockable cubicles. I don't use them, don't want to either. I want to use toilets that are for women only.

I'm glad they're there for people who can't bring themselves to use the toilet facilities provided for their sex - male or female - but I don't feel safe in them and that is the crux of it.

Bigotry and hatred isn't something that I've seen here or anywhere, just a determination that women's safe spaces remain for women/transmen only.

Of course they must. Did you never wonder why we have two kinds of spaces in the first place?

A risk from who? Are you admitting there is a risk in being in a toilet with men?

Do you really think men should have a legal right to watch women and little girls undress? or - as has happened many times - they should be allowed to hold their phone under toilet doors?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 22/04/2025 14:00

Mumble12 · 22/04/2025 13:46

I completely agree with you. But it seems we're on totally the wrong platform if you want to express concern for another group of people.

If the other group of people you want to express concern for, are women and girls, then you're in totally the right place. Or do they not fall in to one of your categories?

Yes, I want biological men all to use the same toilets. I want men to accept that manhood comes in different guises. And if that proves impossible, I want them to campaign for third spaces.

Who are the transwomen at risk from?

(and nice gendered insult there....)

bellinisurge · 22/04/2025 14:01

So men are a threat to trans identifying men but men are not a threat to women.

PlanetJanette · 22/04/2025 13:55

Who decides if a trans man passes?

And what do you understand by 'passes'.

What about cisgender women who someone considers to look sufificently masculine to be challenged? Who decides if she gets to use the women's bathroom? What proof will she be required to produce to prove that she is a woman?

Just woman will do, as clarified by the court, no need for the offensive term 'cis'.

I imagine it will be up to the owners/manager of whatever establishment you're in.

I'm not going to play pretend with you that groups of women regularly think a butch woman is a man, I don't care how many 6 foot butch lesbian friends you claim to have that were hounded out of womens toilets.

There aren’t, don’t be daft.

Yes. We want it based on biological sex as that can't be changed. Makes life a lot simpler and clearer and gets rid of any need for hysteria.

Tell him to stay in the men’s.

We don't. It was Lammy who said men could grow a cervix. Starmer already did a reverse before the election.

I just read that as 'Starmer already did a reverse before the erection'

There have been two other threads (that I've seen) about the SC judgment itself, but this is the first I've seen about BP having to do a screeching u-turn on what she's said previously. However, that's how politics works and cabinet members always have to toe the party line and uphold the independence of the judiciary.

"...and cabinet members always have to toe the party line and uphold the independence of the judiciary."

Unless you happen to be Maggie Chapman MSP, the Deputy Convenor of the Scottish Parliament's Equalities, Human Rights and Civil Justice Committee

Youmeanyouvelostyourkey · 22/04/2025 14:05

You do realise that that is a huge sweeping generalisation you are making. Most trans gender people, just as most male and most females just want to get on with lives harming no one

hopspot · 22/04/2025 14:06

Mumble12 · 22/04/2025 13:49

They are transwomen. You can advocate for what you think is right for women, without sneering down your nose at other people.

There’s no sneering in this post, however you try and gaslight it.

Trans men are women they won’t be under threat from other women, Trans women are men so won’t be under threat from other men.It really is that simple no need for anymore histrionics…As for being sad🙄
