Use men’s or women’s toilets based on biological sex, minister says

Well some trans kids who are entirely harmless and sweet are feeling like shit right now and loads of mumsnetters are jubilant about this.
At the same time equal pay, period poverty, women’s health inequalities, male violence against women, women’s access to education, abortion, contraception etc are still problems the world over.
slow handclap for the feminist victory 🙄

You know women can multi task right - campaign on more than one front?

also the key to the things you listed is the word Women - something TRA don’t really care about

Trans woman I know, lived as female for 20 plus years. Professional person and respected business owner. Employs hundreds. Looks nothing like a man. Do you really expect her to use a men's toilet?

Yes. Why should this person be above the law?

Ridiculous. Labour brought in the GRA to start with and fought every chance to maintain TWAW. Until brave women from FWS got the Supreme Court to explain their own laws to them.

and yet, the Tories were in power and did nothing.

They had a majority for over 15 years and did nothing.

FOJN · 22/04/2025 19:17

cardibach · 22/04/2025 19:04

Any maintaining of TWAW by a government for the last 14 years has been done by Tories. I’m not saying Labour are better, but they haven’t been worse. And they’ve recognised and welcomed the ruling.

I agree the Tory party as a whole were woefully inadequate on this issue but I do think Labour have been worse.

Kemi Badenoch has been vocal in this issue for sometime but she has been elected Leader of the party. Rosie Duffield was more moderate in comparison but couldn't even attend her own party conference because of fears for her safety. See also the treatment of Anna Ruzylo in the Battle and Bexhill constituency in 2017 and the behaviour of Labour party activists at a WPUK meeting in Brighton for a few other examples. There hasn't been a single word of condemnation from senior party members about this bullying and intimidation.

She can use any toilet she wants, just not ones deemed women only.

Yes. They’ve chosen to present themselves as female, it doesn’t make them so.

Female is a sex. How can a male live as the 'female sex'? And yes, as he is a male. You are wanting to see this male in a good light. If we saw then in public, I bet none of us bar you would think he 'passes' as a woman.

Are you as your name implies?

You may be more wedded to Labour than the women impacted by their GRA.

KB did do more. If this Supreme Court ruling hadn’t be a win for FWS biological sex should have been the definition. If Labour hadn’t tried so hard to stop that.

I would advocate for a third space - for ALL trans woman, irrespective of how well their friends, family or acquaintances think they 'do' womanhood.

I’m not blinded by any ideology. The only reason most of my posts are pro-trans is because all the others aren’t. I believe in equality and HUMAN rights. I never said I supported trans activists suggesting to young gay autistic people that they may be in the wrong body. I know all about this and I don’t agree with it. So it’s BS what you say about being blinded by an ideology. As a lesbian myself it also makes me angry when men “discover” aged 40 they’re trans but want to be “edgy” so wear a skirt but rock a full beard then call themself a lesbian. I find it offensive to my own identify. It’s a total piss take and it’s not the same as a young girl or boy who realises they were born in the wrong body (which tends to happen completely naturally by about the age of 4, and causes great distress)
I’m not a TRA! I told you that. But for some reason the world doesn’t accept people who can see both sides of an argument. If you aren’t staunchly in one camp, people try and put you in the other one. A bit like you said those TRAs tried to put autistic kids in boxes eh? I’ve wasted enough of my night on MN, going to watch MAFs now. So all the other haters hating cos I don’t agree with you, I prob won’t get round to reading any of your replies soooo soz

What human rights don't trans people have?

And, by the way, even Stonewall and Mermaids, have stopped the 'born in the wrong body' argument, because it's ridiculous. We are our bodies.

No child is born wrong, it's fucking disgusting that you think it's appropriate to put a child as young as 4 on a pathway of social transition which leads to a lifetime of a cocktail of drugs that harms their healthy bodies and to extreme body modification surgery. Have you even read the Cass review?

Are you aware of the high proportion of teenage girls who claim to be trans? They weren't claiming to be born in the wrong body at 4, they are just being offered a lie to escape the misogynistic ideals that this ideology says a women should be like. A woman can be anything. They just can't be a man. And a man can't be a woman.

I have no problem with anyone wearing whatever they want. Men in makeup, bring it on. There were loads about when I was at university in the 80s and they were hot. Not one of them claimed to be a woman or a lesbian.

If you don't like the fact that males are claiming to be lesbians then the logical response is to say that they are never women in any circumstances. Toilets were always the 'wedge case'.

This is about women existing, as full humans. We are not something a man can choose to be if he feels like it.

I don't expect anything of her. SHE should obey the law herself. Successful at business you say? I'm sure this person knows all about adhering to the laws of the land.

Slow clap for the feminist victory?? What, the law has followed science and said said biological men are not biological women and you use all the examples of how woman are STILL struggling for equality due to men as if you've somehow supported your argument?

Has anyone actually managed to provide clear evidence of transwoman being at higher risk of sexual assualt if they use men's toilets?

Any straight man I know would not be interested in transwomen - because they are men. Or are people saying biological gay man are the risk? Genuinely do not get the line of thinking.

As for verbal abuse - that is awful. No one is gleeful about that. It happens towards women, people of different races, people of different faiths, gay people. It is discriminatory hence why all these things, including trans, are a protected characteristic under law.

Kick up a fuss about male violence or discrimination, STOP blaming women who have spent their lives dealing with misogyny and know the threat biological men pose. It's not transphobia - it's a well established fear of men.

I don't get all the fuss about third spaces if the real reason here is not feeling safe.

You ever see Muhammed Ali's snake analogy? Switch white people for men, then see if it makes more sense.

Because we want to enforce the sex based rights that women have ALWAYS been entitled to under Equality Laws which were introduced by a Labour Government? Right oh!

handsdownthebest · 22/04/2025 18:18

Well if your aunt has ball it does indeed make her your uncle. 😎

No, my aunt is non binary and pan sexual. She refuses to bow down to these ridiculous titles that are simply predicated on constructed social genders.

She is bravely leading the way, fighting against the hatred of Terfs.

Her balls do not define her gender. She is a brave, proud woman with a scrotum, clinging to her dignity, her spirit, her sense of wonder.

Ocado, who share her views on those with hateful Terf beliefs have given her a job driving one of their vans. She bravely buzzes around in it, flying the Transgender flag, in fear of her life but determined, so hugely determined, to fight on-to defy the ignorant, the haters and the unkind.

So, @handsdownthebest educate yourself. An aunt with balls is not always an uncle. I imagine her story has brought a tear to your eye and maybe, just maybe, it has opened your hard heart just a little.

And on other threads it has been pointed out to you that your derision about what feminists have been working for skips the part where they already are working for all the things you mention.

Plus feminists reject your emotionally manipulative attempts at shaming those who need female single sex spaces.

I can tell you what else feminists and women’s rights campaigners are working hard for, proper safeguarding for children including ensuring that children are properly treated for gender dysphoria.

But feminists and women’s rights campaigners are not working on your authority or under your guidance. It must be frustrating to accept this.

This was a choice of time and resources. It means absolutely nothing whatever to me as a woman. Of ALL the campaigns that could have got everyone motivated, the campaign to pee in a cubicle with a door safe in the knowledge that only people with vaginas might be in the adjoining toilet is just about the most pathetic thing I have ever heard.
