I'll go first 😆

-Kids sharing rooms
-Complaining about schools or teachers
-Feeling upset about a friend hurting you
-Having more than 1 kid on an income under circa 50-100k, or having more than two on an income under circa 100-150k
-Renting long term
Complaining about dogs being given human rights.
Complaining about grandparents care of DC's 'because it's free so like it or lump it!'

I think it’s gets a little tiring that on a parent forum, where people post to ask for parenting advice about seemingly normal behaviour, on the first page someone always suggests ADHD/Autism

I’m not talking about that I’m talking about abelist posters dismissing the existence of autism and ADHD alongside belittling both and women and girls finally being diagnosed properly .

For the same reason there isn’t a male version of doctor. I have already answered this further up.

Karen is both male and female. But if you really need to label gender then you can call it male Karen.

Karen is not a female name in this instance, rather a noun, much like table, jacket, bread.

"Karen is both male and female"

Fairly standard moronic response to a reasonable statement. But by all means, keep calling me a clown…that will make you seem far more intelligent and reasonably balanced 🥱 bored now

It's literally a woman's name. Not a man's name. A woman's name.

Why is it a woman's name and not a man's name?

Think for a second.

I saw a post where somone used the term Karen and got flamed

Too right. It’s generally only used by fairly uneducated people who have run out of anything useful to say so they resort to this.

Grandparents providing childcare.

But what if someone here on mumsnet is a woman but being a massive dick?

That is obviously a male appendage and a male name, yet if a woman is being a dick they are being a dick, not a dickess or a vagina. Don’t you agree?

I don’t use it personally, I find it incredibly cheesy, there are much better ways of putting a person back in their place if they’re being excessive. However I also understand its place in culture, and would vehemently disagree that it is a misogynistic term, just because some can use it that way.

Am I under educated? Not with my first in a degree from a respected university I’m not…why does mumsnet always have to say that someone who doesn’t agree with them isn’t educated enough.

The words "twat", "cunt" and "tit" are also available.

"Dick" is actually a bit of an anomaly.

Sending your kids to private school
Criticising teachers or the NHS
Shouting at your husband or your kids
Caring about global warming
Expecting grandparents to take an interest in their grandchildren
Accepting the idea that some people are genuinely transgender

Ohh yes the shouting....If you ever dare to lose your temper and shout at your spouse or child occasionally, then your automatically abusive 🙄

well, I suppose education should be a lifelong commitment- not something that stops at university.

it is very ill informed though.

the ‘Karen’ slur is something which grew out of a particular cultural climate in the United States, and the identification of a particular type of middle aged, white, racist woman who is rude and entitled.

while the UK can be as racist as anywhere, there’s a back story in the US ( segregation) which makes this something that is probably more prevalent over there. The original ‘Karen’ is not a ‘type’ I recognise in the UK.

however, it has long since been a term that is hijacked by misogynistic and ageist people masquerading as progressive who use it to attack any older women with an opinion.

it is now a slur to silence and shame women, and deny the lived experience of older women.

Exactly this.

"Karen" now means "shut up, middle aged woman".

Being a step parent and having the temerity to not enjoy the endless sacrifices.

Caring about birthdays as an adult. ('What are you, 6? You just said he changed the toilet roll earlier in the day and dug last year's card out of the sideboard. Be grateful and stop acting like a spoilt brat.')
Being a SAHM.
Piercings and tattoos.
A sex life that isn't monogamous/vanilla, or embarked upon outside a loving committed relationship of at least three years' duration. ('That's fucking grim OP, don't you have any self-respect?')
Second marriages/families/stepparenting arrangements of any kind. They just shouldn't exist, apparently.
On a related note, stepparents disciplining stepkids ever, for any reason, even if they've just blown up the house. You're not their mum and you knew he had kids when you married him.
Calling the evening meal tea. ('I don't understand, OP, don't you just have a cup of tea whenever you fancy one?')
Neurodiversity as something real, not 'an excuse' or a 'trendy made-up condition people use to get attention'.
Not wanting the high-flying career/£100k/four-hour commute/wraparound care/'oh, Perdita's already up to Grade 6 violin' lifestyle.
Tolerance when otherwise good friends uncharacteristically let us down. ('I wouldn't be standing for her not turning up to your new carpet party just because she broke her neck OP. Who cares if she's been your best friend since the first day of nursery? Unfriend, block, and move on with your life.')
Having a disability or long-term health condition, unless of course you're one of the 'I only have one leg, am blind and have two full-time jobs, what's your excuse OP?' brigade.
Toilet brushes.
Introducing your kids to a new partner any time before your silver anniversary.
The concept that anyone over 50 might not need a zimmer frame or a carer.
Thinking anyone who is transgender is entitled to just live their life in peace.
Patterned clothing or accessories. ('I think that's a child's bag, OP even though it's adult-sized.')
Staying with your partner even though they put the toilet roll on the wrong way. You should change the locks and do the Freedom Programme immediately.
Claiming any kind of benefit even if fully entitled to it. Apparently we're all supposed to have more 'pride' now and 'never take a penny off the state' - even if we've been paying in our entire working lives towards a system that is designed to support us when in need. Sheer lunacy.
Wearing heels.

(Obviously with tongue in cheek, and a smidge of exaggeration in places 😄 but I think most of the tropes are recognisable.)

Relationship age gaps

Mothership4two · 23/04/2025 15:02

Step mums not treating SC identically to her own DC (even when not practical or if actually unfair). Must never go away without them all even without DP even for the shortest of breaks. Generally I am fully accepting of this and have a few step cousins that were treated the same as all the others, but some posters take this to the nth degree to the point where it's making life hard.

There is a thread up ATM from a SAHM where some posters are saying that her DC/DH's SC aren't his children and some saying why doesn't she work as they aren't his, etc. It's not exactly the same situation as the holiday ones, but the differences in responses struck me as I was reading through the comments.

I wonder why that could be, it's not like women had rights and then lost them...oh!
