Silliest place you’ve seen a dog owner take their dog

To ask where the silliest / most inappropriate place you’ve seen a dog taken by the owner

Inspired by recent posts complaining about dogs being everywhere in cafes etc

Yesterday in our local Cathedral Easter service , a dog was taken up to the altar for communion with its owners. I’ve seen it all now 😃
I was unfortunately unable to see if they attempted to snaffle a bit of bread for the dog , but it honestly wouldn’t have surprised me
Just why ?

I’ll start with I love dogs, I’ve got one myself. But they really are everywhere now. Which wouldn’t be too much of a problem if they were trained. They trailed it at a shopping centre I worked in. The amount of male dogs cocking their legs in the stores was gross. And who do you think has to clean it up, poor sales assistants, the owners soon scarper.
I just think we need to remember dogs aren’t our children.

My dog would do this, I'd never take him inside a shop or cafe I do believe dogs should be outside if they are likely to pee .

In my area (Europe) we have big rock formations called "rock cities". You are walking on narrow path squeezed between the huge rocks and they form a kind of natural labyrinths.
Sometimes you need to move a natural level up or down, so in some places there are ladders there or chains to help you.

Some paths are specifically marked as not passable for people with limited movement & orientation, no buggies and no dogs.

Some stupid entitled dog owners take their muts there anyway.
It is really too narrow to pass each other easily, safely, and happily with a big dog . And they go all the way to the ladder and chain, realise they really can't get their dog two meters up, bitch for a moment and walk all the way back, passing people.

UK is Europe too.. And we’re a nation of dog lovers for sure ❤️

In Asda, a huge Alsatian doing the weekly food shop with two owners, one 100% could have waited outside.

Wimpod · 21/04/2025 10:13

Going to a sports pitch to walk the dog and let it 💩.

Especially if you drove there , I mean if you can drive you can go somewhere more suitable that isn't busy with people (including kids) playing football or whatever.

Nothing like checking the pitch for shit before a match! 🤢

I think the anti-cat element here is a fairly small minority. (usually garden related).
To he fair I don't tend to take my cats shopping or have them accompany me to restaurants and cafes.

I saw a cat with a woman in a mobility scooter in M&S food hall a couple of weeks ago. There is also a couple with a large maine coon cat that walk around the town near me and regularly take him into a cafe

Perhaps I should try it too then 😹

In a small quiet Mass. The dog kept yapping. The priest had to raise his voice. Ridiculous (and expressly forbidden in the Catholic Church).

Our church relies on a small group of volunteers to clean the church. I feel really sorry for them when a dog has been allowed to bound in, trailing mud.

Unicorntearsofgin · 21/04/2025 10:15

In a kids play area in a park. It’s the one part that had a no dogs sign. My daughter is anxious around them and I am allergic so I wasn’t impressed.

Why is mumsnet suddenly anti dog?

It's just another rage baiting thread about dogs.MN loves to hate dogs unfortunately 😔.

Always lots of dogs on the Underground. If you live in London and need to get around then it’s probably better than the bus. Mostly see smaller dogs but yesterday DD and I saw a man carrying an enormous dog on the escalator, was quite amusing.

Well he was just obeying the signs which say dogs must be carried on the escalator.

You might not be but unfortunately many are. You can be pro womens rights without vilifying trans people - which is what many are doing

Saying TWANW is not vilifying trans women.

So are you saying that because human babies and toddlers can make noise in church that we should therefore accept a yapping dog?
The parents should remove crying babies and disruptive children.

I’m saying that in some Catholic Churches I’ve been in you would have been lucky to hear the yapping over the babies crying and chattering toddlers.

Treblechef · 21/04/2025 10:17

Spidey66 · 21/04/2025 08:46

What do you mean suddenly? It's always been anti dogs.

I don't think it is anti-dogs. I just think most reasonable people don't want dogs in unsuitable places. Churches, hospitals, shops, supermarkets....It is ridiculous.

OuchyEars · 21/04/2025 10:19

Moobootoyoutoo · 21/04/2025 09:03

People can self declare their dogs as assistance dogs now and in doing so shops would be discriminating by not allowing them in, even in supermarkets, if the dog isn't controlled then you can ask them to leave but that is often a contentious point in itself - blame the legislation behind it all - not the shops!! The wording is deliberately written so as to discourage but pointedly doesn't permit them to be banned

Yet there are multiple people on here blaming the shops, again

That is interesting. Does that mean that people who are allergic to dogs cannot work in public facing roles any more?

So for instance if you want to sell your craft work or run a boutique or a cafe or be a hairdresser etc it is illegal to not allow dogs into your place of work? Or is that just for big businesses? It would be crazy to have to allow dogs into your own small business.

I'm always interested in the equivalency between dogs and children. Do you think, in time, dogs would learn to be quiet, understand the meaning of prayer and gain something from the liturgy?

Babaganoush2013 · 21/04/2025 10:19

I was in B&Q on Saturday and a couple walked in with a cat on a lead. It looked absolutely terrified with the huge amount of people around.
Honestly why couldn't they have left it at home?

National Trust Easter trail this weekend. Ruined the activities, scared the children and meant all parents had to be on high alert. Oh, but he’s friendly, wailed the incompetent owner…

If it’s an area of the NT property which allows dogs every other day of the year, are you suggesting that is ‘silly’?

I went to one yesterday where (shock horror) dogs and kids were able to co-exist without bothering eachother in the slightest. Some families even had kids and dogs, if you can believe such a thing!

Or are you just saying this because one of the owners was a dickhead and you’re still fummin’?

StScholastica · 21/04/2025 10:20

Aviemore ski resort.
Despite being a "mountain breed" and wearing a coat, poor dog was frozen and had to be taken back down after 10 mins
I was that owner. 😳.

Poppymeldrum · 21/04/2025 10:21

A granny I knew (she was my mother's friend) would bring her yappy dog to the playground
She would stand and chain smoke with this dog trying to bite the ankles of any child who walked past while waiting for her grandson
It shat more than once but school where scared of her

A golf course
How that golf ball missed the dogs head,I do not know

I work in fast food
Early one morning,a massive bloke walked in with his dog (it just happened to he an all female staff at that time)
He was asked to take it outside (I was offered up to look after it as I love dogs while he waited)
Cue a load of screaming that it cost him a fortune (he claimed it was about 6k) and his support animal (it really wasnt, support animals are well trained, this thing was bouncing about and growling at us)
We got his food out in record time and found that it had left two deposits on the floor
And of course it was me that to clean it up

Not the first time we've had people walk in with animals-I've seen cats to hamsters
Why people think the animal will enjoy a trip to Maccies,i do not know

Trying to get on a plane. Years ago before you could check in online etc. my parents saw a woman trying to board a flight with her dog.
She got to the check in desk and ‘Sam’ on the booking was her dog. He was booked on the flight as a human male. She was politely told no he could not board the flight at check in.
Last seen shouting that they were discriminating against him.

But for those of us who walk to school (especially through parks) it’s an efficient way of getting the dog walked before work. At our school, teachers are at the gates, and happy to keep an eye on any dogs tied up to make sure they don’t get stolen whilst you nip in and see the kids away.

Of course they are! I expect they don't have anything better to do.

ThatFirmPearlPlayer · 21/04/2025 10:29

A packed Christmas market with a calf-height dog on a lead which meant people were inevitably tripping over it or stepping on it's paws because they couldn't see it in the crowd with the owner getting more and more irate.

Pretty shit for the dog too I'd imagine.

I will ditch my shopping and leave if I ever see that.
