Silliest place you’ve seen a dog owner take their dog

To ask where the silliest / most inappropriate place you’ve seen a dog taken by the owner

Inspired by recent posts complaining about dogs being everywhere in cafes etc

Yesterday in our local Cathedral Easter service , a dog was taken up to the altar for communion with its owners. I’ve seen it all now 😃
I was unfortunately unable to see if they attempted to snaffle a bit of bread for the dog , but it honestly wouldn’t have surprised me
Just why ?

Very Good. 🤣

As long as said dog didn't Offenbach it was probably OK.

@Differentforgirls
So the Supreme Court is vilifying TW? Biological reality vilifies trans women too?
A viewpoint showing why the SC ruling was needed in the first place.
(apologies for the derail. I like dogs but would not have one -- can't stand the shit. The shit thing applies to the crap owners too. )

No you are.

"and treat them like an extra child ,and do not notice/care when they-inconvenience others"

So, you don't notice it care when your child inconveniences other. Got it.

I treat my dog like a child to a point. I don't look like a love islander, I don't dress my dog up, she's not a designer dog. She doesn't go off leash, gets told off for doing something she shouldn't, I keep her away from others when walking and she knows not to jump up. She doesn't pee or poo on pavement, grass only and the shit is always picked up and put in the bin, even if we have to carry it for miles until we get home.

Can guarantee my dog is much more well behaved than a child because parents these days let their children do whatever they want and are spoiled brats.

God I’m so glad I don’t know anyone like this IRL!

That's not true and you know it. Cheap point scoring.
And not even a dog to show for it.

I was at a hen do once and a friend of the mother of the bride who the bride didn't know well arrived half an hour late with her dog without telling anyone. The dog was not well trained.

WadiShab · 22/04/2025 18:31

Resturants, supermarkets, work, offices. I'm not talking about service dogs, that is different of course, but outside of that I find it silly.

When I went to the midnight service on Christmas eve at our local church a loudly barking dog bit my arm.

Stillamum3 · 22/04/2025 18:43

In Tesco, last Thursday. The woman had a small dog clamped under her arm while she paid at the self checkout. I felt sorry for it - she was not supporting it properly. just clamping it against her body with one arm while she unloaded her basket, paid and loaded her bags. Must have taken 8 or 9 minutes altogether and the dog looked really uncomfortable.

Small dog on a single person chairlift (with owner) in Austria about 30 years ago. Top of Obergurgl. ‘‘Twas very odd - not a great place for a summery walk!

I think that chairlift is still there - can't imagine taking a bloody dog on it though, it scared me enough on my own!

WanaBeMillionaire · 22/04/2025 18:54

To a house viewing.. I guess they wanted to see if the dog liked it!

I hate dogs in cafes. There is nothing worse than sitting down having a coffee and a bite to eat and find someone’s dog sniffing around your table. There are so many selfish dog owners who appear not to understand that many people not only don’t share their love of their dog but actively detest them.

This really, I wouldn’t have a dog myself because I think they’re a huge commitment that many people take on too lightly, and I’m not anti dog, but I hate them in places I’ve gone to eat. Clean well behaved dogs are fine, but unfortunately they seem to be in the minority, see my comment re commitment. I actually had to move to the other side of a cafe recently because the two dogs next to us (arrived after us) were so revoltingly smelly and over familiar that it was putting me off my food. Licking the table, feet on chairs and tables, wandering about pawing and sniffing people that don’t want it, begging, barking, none of it belongs in a cafe in my opinion. And yes, I always avoid dog friendly venues for this reason.

Feelinglost10 · 22/04/2025 19:20

I’d be more concerned why it bothers you? If someone wants to take their dog anywere and it doesn’t affect your life I don’t understand the issue?

GoldenGail · 22/04/2025 19:38

Whistonia · 21/04/2025 08:26

You might not be but unfortunately many are. You can be pro womens rights without vilifying trans people - which is what many are doing

I’ve found its more the other way. Being insulted and called a fucking bigot for defending women’s right to feel safe . The aggression and vitriol thats been shown from the trans lobby this week has been shocking

GoldenGail · 22/04/2025 19:43

Differentforgirls · 21/04/2025 13:56

It is actually.

In your opinion but others are entitled to believe differently. I don’t see a trans woman as a “real” woman

GoldenGail · 22/04/2025 19:48

Rastyopolis · 21/04/2025 09:19

@Pandacrazedchild I know they’re a dog friendly shop, but a lot of owners don’t consider if there dog is department store friendly.

I took mine into John Lewis. Very well behaved and house trained for years. Guess what? He suddenly squatted and did a massive shit in the middle of the homeware section. I was absolutely mortified!!!! An assistant said he was the fourth dog to do it in that spot that day so they obviously didn’t know how to clean up with enzymes to remove the smell . Luckily there were no other shoppers . I will never take him into a store like that again, My other little dog is disabled and travels in a pram which is a different story as shes away from everything in shops and everyone we meet makes a fuss of her

Rhaenys · 22/04/2025 20:31

I love animals, and think that Mumsnet is a bit weirdly anti-dog, but I don’t like to see dogs in hospitals. I’m not a massive fan of dogs in food outlets either, but at least people have the choice whether to go in them or not. They don’t have that choice in hospital and although it must be nice for the owners, I think it’s really inconsiderate towards the other patients who have no say or means of escape.

noodlebugz · 22/04/2025 21:06

Quite a few people have said John lewis (I agree) but i was sure I’d seen signage saying dog friendly in my local one recently, and it is.

Our solicitors let us bring ours in the sign our wills! He was a brand new rescue at the time and didn't handle been left alone so we were going to wait outside in turn but they said bring him in and made a huge fuss of him. When the solicitor reads out the bit about who gets the dog if we both die in a fireball he even looked at DDog as of to check he was okay with it.

This made be smile!

we took our dog on honeymoon with us - abroad/long haul flight.
we also took our dog to a viewing and subsequently bought the house! One of us was going to sit in the car with her but the owners said bring her in so we did. She drank of their dogs water bowl and sat on the landing like she lived there so that was that!

RavenhairedRachel · 22/04/2025 22:17

I worked a for 20 years as a funeral director amd you wouldn't believe how many dogs are taken to funerals.

Aquariusgolddustwoman34 · 22/04/2025 22:24

I was queuing up to see the Magna Carta in Salisbury cathedral and sure enough a couple with their black lab in front of us went in with the dog to view it - it’s in like a little hut thingy behind a thick curtain, inside a bigger room for those that haven’t seen it. Had visions of the dog cocking his leg on the glass fronted Magna Carta lol. So weird but my mum and I found it hilarious.

From my experience living in France, food hygiene in supermarkets is not high on their list of priorities

We just do things differently, we aren't as scared of dogs or dirt it would seem and as for our hygiene standards this is probably why allergies are less of a problem here. (There are also fewer fully carpeted, hermetically sealed dampish houses because of the climate).
