Silliest place you’ve seen a dog owner take their dog

To ask where the silliest / most inappropriate place you’ve seen a dog taken by the owner

Inspired by recent posts complaining about dogs being everywhere in cafes etc

Yesterday in our local Cathedral Easter service , a dog was taken up to the altar for communion with its owners. I’ve seen it all now 😃
I was unfortunately unable to see if they attempted to snaffle a bit of bread for the dog , but it honestly wouldn’t have surprised me
Just why ?

But if dogs are allowed, why should owners make their lives more complicated by not taking them?

So much entitlement from people who don’t seem to realise that no one cares whether you dislike dogs or get a bit sniffly or your child is a bit scared. All of those things are your complications to deal with.

😂😂😂

No reason at all! I was mainly thinking of the people taking the dog to places that are objectively unsuitable for a dog.

But unsuitable is very subjective, as this thread shows.

@wastingtimeonhere
im fortunate to be able to spend a good portion of the year on the coast. In the last week I’ve seen dozens of full dog 💩 bags on the beach/in sand dunes / grass verges along lanes. And not a single nappy bag. A neighbour kindly went out and cleared what she could recently and collected 10 bags in the space of an hour. Signs are put up but dog owners are the lowest of the low - I’ve seen so many dogs squat and shit Infront of me this week it’s just disgusting. My children don’t squat and shit right next to a stranger

My dog squats and shits in front of me, and I pick it up. If someone's dog does it in front of you, then hope the owner picks it up, look away and get on with your life.

People who leave shit and poo bags everywhere piss off responsible dog owners too. Just because I have a dog does not mean I have low standards.

Sorrysunflower · 21/04/2025 21:28

Sorry I haven’t RTFT. Was cycling hone the other day on a shared cycle / pedestrian path and some idiot was screaming at me to slow down because he was playing with his off-lead dogs on the path. WTF? He had one of those ball throwing things and was going up and down the path with it. There was a public park - vast, grassy - less than 2 mins walk away. And he had the audacity to ask me to slow down when I was using our city’s cycle infrastructure as intended. Idiot.

wastingtimeonhere · 21/04/2025 21:54

As I said I agree, it's disgusting, and I in no way excuse it in any way. I am responsible, and pick up my dogs poo and bin it either in dog poo bin or at home.
My point is that it's skanky people leaving literal shit in all public places. I cleaned up the mess left behind in a beautiful public beauty/viewpoint place by a carload of family that threw the rubbish out the car window as they drove off. It got others out their cars and we cleaned up the shit together.
Beach huts here are a target, people go behind them to shit and piss. Men in particular will piss like a fucking Terrier marking territories anywhere and everywhere, are men not toilet trained past toddlerhood, as they seem to be unable to wait to use a loo! Beaches have to be cleaned daily during the summer, not because of Fido, he's not allowed, dogs are barred, but because of scuzzy humans.

Babies and toddlers have an immortal soul and are members of the church. Animals don’t and aren’t.

Even within Christianity, that assertion is not universally agreed; and other faiths would entirely disagree.

As for "doggy greetings" etc., I have attended a number of "mixed animal" services in the past and to date there have been no traumas or problems, which isn't always true of Sunday School participants.

...understand liturgical rites...
But I don't think I would go that far - there's been times when I don't understand liturgical rites, so not sure why I would expect my Border Collie to.

I was talking about dogs in a Catholic Mass. Other denominations and faiths can choose to do, and believe, what they like!

In a Cats’ Protection charity shop

grafittiartist · 22/04/2025 05:26

At a fair - absolutely packed- hard to walk round. noisy, busy, bright lights. Poor thing must have been stressed.

Lovebeingamummy2 · 22/04/2025 05:36

Build a bear because apparently the dog wanted to make a bear 🙈😂

dottiedodah · 22/04/2025 05:43

In the multi storey car park. Getting into the lift with several people! Very good ,didn't bark .Very busy at Christmas time

Lol...not the case for the last anti trans thread I read.

Which youve somehow transformed into anti trans. Slow clap. 👏

Soddingcat · 22/04/2025 07:47

Ok , so i did not start this thread because i hate dogs,
It was a bit of light hearted fun !

I like well behaved dogs actually , but they are scarce in recent times unfortunately in public places
We always had dogs growing up , however, we used to take them to the woods/ local river bank to walk them,
There is a new breed of dog owner, getting progressively worse over the last ten years, and the people on here complaining im sure mean them, not the good ones out in the woods !

I suspect most good dog owners are similar , and wouldn't dream of taking their dogs shopping ect

Many modern dog owners have made people not keen on dogs, so many folk do not train them. and treat them like an extra child ,and do not notice/care when they-inconvenience others .
Dog poo is all over pavements , many jump up.

The new fashion for inbred dogs like baby sausage dogs and pugs paraded round by people who look like they are on Love Island in their
little dog outfits epitomise this new trend ,
and the people who have dogs off lead with no recall whatsoever who jump at you

All of the examples on this thread show how big a problem it is
It does not mean we hate dogs.
Just annoying ones

Yes it is many dog owners who are the problem not the dog, but it essentially the dog causing the problem

I will always enjoy stroking a furry friendly well trained dog when im out,
They are an absolute pleasure, but they are rare as hens teeth !

Not everybody though. Most people are pro women’s rights, and a few are anti trans. So let’s try to avoid sweeping generalisations on both sides as otherwise you can’t have dialogue and we’ve all seen where that leads. Besides, this is a dog thread.

If we are talking about sweeping generalisations, the narrative on Mumsnet has been that trans equals sexual predator - which of course is not true and is vilifying trans people.
I take my dog into the toilet with me if out but she is a bitch so I guess that’s okay?

Exactly, why people have to assume every dog owner is dirty / has poor standards i dont know. Are those with kids all terrible parents? Makes about as much sense!

I took my dog to the Notting Hill Carnival. I realised how stupid that was as soon as I heard the sound systems. We left after a very short while. It was my first time and my dog's last!

To be fair I was in a cafe recently by the window and there was tables outside. And a dog just squatted honestly about 1ft from a couple eating their lunch. Right outside the cafe door on a busy high street. The owner did pick it up yes but honestly that would put me right off my dinner. You can’t really ignore that when you’re trying to eat and it’s directly next to you. I do think the owner should have at least tried to move the dog on a bit.

The other dog thread currently running shows that this always turns into a race to the bottom where it's hard to have a normal conversation.

It starts with "isn't it outrageous that people take their dogs to non dog friendly places, and don't pick up their poo". Everyone agrees, by the end it's always they should be banned in all public spaces unless its private land, they shouldn't be allowed to poo anywhere (even if picked up) and the people that like dogs are mentally deficient.

The idea that dogs were better behaved previously is also mostly false. Many people my mums age had bad encounters with random roaming dogs, or dogs tied up.

There was far more dog poo in most people's childhood than there is now. Ask anyone about the white dog poo!

Wide amounts of campaigns against leaving dogs in cars
Partly because of heat
Partly because of dog theft
Partly because the way new alarms work mean they sound a lot if dogs are left.

Many hardware stores are dog friendly and advertise as such

You've forgotten about the crazy dog people who think that the smallest criticism of dogs = dog hater. "You don't want to step in dog poo? You should be HONOURED to have my Luna's rose-scented offerings on your shoe! I bet she's cleaner than your horrible children!"

[Disclaimer: example exaggerated for comic effect butit's not too far off some posts you see]

Everything else is spot on. You're not allowed to basically like dogs but think that sometimes people need to be more considerate when out and about with their pets, it has to be all or nothing!

Because it's dangerous to leave dogs in cars. Fine if you know you'll be 2 minutes, but if you're in a shop you might find it takes longer than you think.

I don't think they necessarily assume that all dog owners do it (or if they do they're being ridiculous) but 100% of the small minority that do do it are dog owners. If you clean up after your dog then the moaning isn't aimed at you!
