Silliest place you’ve seen a dog owner take their dog

To ask where the silliest / most inappropriate place you’ve seen a dog taken by the owner

Inspired by recent posts complaining about dogs being everywhere in cafes etc

Yesterday in our local Cathedral Easter service , a dog was taken up to the altar for communion with its owners. I’ve seen it all now 😃
I was unfortunately unable to see if they attempted to snaffle a bit of bread for the dog , but it honestly wouldn’t have surprised me
Just why ?

Any busy market or car boot. Insane.

Yes. We were at a busy food fayre at Lichfield and as anyone knows who goes there, it gets rammed by people in narrow spaces. Being a food fayre, there’s all sorts of tantalising cooking smells. I saw so many stressed dogs being squeezed through the tightly-packed throngs of people. Poor things

Sick and tired of smelling dog shit everywhere and seeing 💩 filled bags in hedgerows and sand dunes. if I launched my kids shitty nappy bag into a verge id - quite rightly - be told off but dog owners can get away it seemingly

I have a dog and I hate this too. Just because I have a dog does not mean I accept stuff like that

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 21/04/2025 16:26

Just seen a dog on a dog bed being wheeled round our local aquatics shop in a shopping trolley. It’s fish only, not a pet shop so no bloody reason for a dog to be in there.

Sheeparelooseagain · 21/04/2025 16:27

"Non-farm dogs off leash in fields of ewes and lambs in the Lake District."

We were on NT parkland with cattle on it and numerous signs saying dogs must be on leads. One stupid owner walking along with dog not on lead. Dog runs off towards the cattle and ignores owners calls so owner has to go running after it to catch it.

Another dog got shot by a farmer because the owner allowed it loose and out of sight on a hill covered in sheep. Owner complained to the police but didn't get anywhere.

We took our dog to the polling station once. She had a toe fetish. The polling clerk was wearing sandals and got an unexpected lick.

🤮

There must have been a crying baby or two and a talking toddler as well?

I remember being in a church in Italy with my very Catholic ILs, a little old lady indicated would we mind holding her dog’s lead while she went up for communion, which we agreed. Dog was no trouble.

Babies and toddlers have an immortal soul and are members of the church. Animals don’t and aren’t.

Also — it’s pragmatic. One quiet dog might be no trouble. But what if another dog appears and they decide to have a doggy greeting?

It's just a dog peeking its nose under a cubicle divider, not some peeping Tom with a camera Confused

My autistic son would have been bloody terrified

What is wrong about being looked at by an animal? What is going to happen to you?

Same as if a human looked at me on the loo I suppose; nothing at all. It doesn’t mean it’s ok.

A bit different with a human though. I mean, if it was a man, then you will have reason to worry.
Dogs are not going to have impure thoughts about humans.

Dogs always travel on the tube. There's the joke that the signs say "dogs must be carried"; and some passengers can't find a dog anywhere!

Aw, my friend's autistic son used to be the one doing the peeping under doors!

We don't know that. According to this thread they can enjoy art galleries, participate in funerals, understand liturgical rites, enjoy clothes shopping at John Lewis and so much more, so who knows what they're thinking about you on the loo?

mambojambodothetango · 21/04/2025 17:08

Definitely not anti dog but was pretty annoyed by the school therapy dog being allowed to hover just outside the school hall during a sharing assembly (glass doors). People were distracted wanting to see where the dog noise was coming from or what the dog was doing, rather than listening to the children who were trying so hard in their performance. Basically the dog was more important than the pupils. I like dogs but that's just wrong.

Babies and toddlers have an immortal soul and are members of the church. Animals don’t and aren’t.

Even within Christianity, that assertion is not universally agreed; and other faiths would entirely disagree.

As for "doggy greetings" etc., I have attended a number of "mixed animal" services in the past and to date there have been no traumas or problems, which isn't always true of Sunday School participants.

...understand liturgical rites...
But I don't think I would go that far - there's been times when I don't understand liturgical rites, so not sure why I would expect my Border Collie to.

OlympicWomen · 21/04/2025 17:53

Yes, but does your Border Collie think it's a case of transubstantiation, or consubstantiation?

I'm a dog owner, totally agree, but dirty nappies are dumped regularly too along with all their other rubbish. Go for a walk on a beach after a nice day. The problem is the skanky human. They often own dogs and frequently are as bad with their kids.

Yep. the problem is not dogs. It is the owners.

9/10 you don’t realise it’s a “dog friendly” cafe until someone walks in with one! By the time someone’s precious pooch is sniffing your ankle, you’re already mid-coffee and your relaxation time has been spoilt.

Have you considered asking before you purchase your coffee? I usually do (although for the opposite reason).

JandamiHash · 21/04/2025 19:46

Down an aisle at her wedding. Whilst her dad, who she loves and gets on with and is close to, sat watching in his seat. I was like this Shock

Speckyfourfries · 21/04/2025 14:24

Our local cinema does dog friendly screenings. I love dogs but FFS... does a dog really want to sit in a dark room for 2 hours?

My dog’s favourite thing to do (after running around like a lunatic) is curling up next to me whilst I watch a film.

I probably wouldn’t take him to the cinema because I find it too loud, but he would love lying around for 2 hours in the dark!

My God, this was 25 bloody years ago.

Also, if someone apologised for their dog peeking at me on the loo, I would think they were completely barking.

some people's lives are complicated

But if your dog makes your life complicated, that's not other people's problem to solve 🤷‍♀️

Dog ownership is a lifestyle choice. A perfectly valid one that gives many people joy, but a choice nonetheless.

But if dogs are allowed, why should owners make their lives more complicated by not taking them?

So much entitlement from people who don’t seem to realise that no one cares whether you dislike dogs or get a bit sniffly or your child is a bit scared. All of those things are your complications to deal with.

No, it wouldn’t cross my mind to. Dog’s don’t usually drink coffee so I wouldn’t be thinking about them in a coffee shop until I see (or, more often than not, smell) one.

Oh, well in case this thread hasn’t made you aware - lots of places are dog friendly these days. Those of you who don’t like dogs ought to check before you attend.
