Silliest place you’ve seen a dog owner take their dog

To ask where the silliest / most inappropriate place you’ve seen a dog taken by the owner

Inspired by recent posts complaining about dogs being everywhere in cafes etc

Yesterday in our local Cathedral Easter service , a dog was taken up to the altar for communion with its owners. I’ve seen it all now 😃
I was unfortunately unable to see if they attempted to snaffle a bit of bread for the dog , but it honestly wouldn’t have surprised me
Just why ?

Of course, they are planning on having little Poppy dog confirmed and have already bought her a white lacy dress.

Thank goodness. I just hope that the dog can learn the Liturgy of the Eucharist in time.

Saw a massive dog in the deepest, darkest depths of the Ikea marketplace slobbering all over cushions. I told staff but they were too sheepish to approach. I'm highly allergic to dogs. My world is getting smaller all the time with them being actively encouraged into restaurants, shops and hotels.

Well it’s probably like the ‘MN is anti-trans!’ when really no one is anti trans, they just want to keep certain spaces and sports biological male free.

Same as dogs. Some people deem MN anti-dog when really most people don’t mind dogs, they just don’t want them in spaces where they probably shouldn’t be, especially when they haven’t been trained properly.

As evidenced already on this thread.

Why do the obsessive dog people jump onto threads like this and try to change the topic? The OP was an asking a question about the batshit places people take dogs. No need to post if you haven’t an example to give. We get from numerous other threads you are obsessed with forcing your dog on everyone - thread isn’t the place for you.

In a small quiet Mass. The dog kept yapping. The priest had to raise his voice. Ridiculous (and expressly forbidden in the Catholic Church).

That’s interesting. I’m RC and wouldn’t dream of taking ddog to church, didn’t know there was a reason. I also go regularly to a Scottish church and the first few times they asked after ddog, so I now take him.

If it’s an area of the NT property which allows dogs every other day of the year, are you suggesting that is ‘silly’?

I went to one yesterday where (shock horror) dogs and kids were able to co-exist without bothering eachother in the slightest. Some families even had kids and dogs, if you can believe such a thing!

Or are you just saying this because one of the owners was a dickhead and you’re still fummin’?

Not fuming, more aggrieved that an aggressive and out of control large dog was allowed to terrorize a number of small children around the trail, sticking its head into at least one pram and jumping up at children barely two feet tall. Not the dog’s fault obviously, it’s the owner at fault. Wouldn’t go back and have fed back to NT.

A golf course
How that golf ball missed the dogs head,I do not know

There are at least 2 golf courses near me that have public footpaths running across them. Walkers would have to do a massive detour to avoid the golf courses, and it's not at all uncommon for people to walk dogs across them.

Golfers are aware of the route of the footpaths and wait for walkers (and dogs) to pass before taking a shot, and most people keep their dogs on leads there anyway.

I certainly did, as all my dogs would have chased and retrieved any moving ball...

Dreamerinme · 21/04/2025 11:17

Sitting on the garden furniture sofa display next to its owner.

A Labrador wandering around the M&S Food Hall and intermittently sticking its nose into the open fridges. Next thing I know the dog and owner are being escorted out by the security officer.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 21/04/2025 11:18

I was surprised for one of my dogs to be invited into the butcher's. Yes, she is well-behaved, and they know her (she would insist on crossing the road and giving them RSPCA eyes until they gave her bones), but... in a butcher shop? Really? She knows to wait for food, but I imagine other dogs seeing a green light to head into the back and drag out a carcass...

Describing them as ‘blokes in dresses’ and pointedly using the opposite pronouns is, though.

Same with endless dog whistle comparisons to predators.

As is shoehorning in anti-trans discussions into every possible thread. Like one about dogs, for example

And “men in dresses” is a highly stereotypical way to describe them, plenty of them dress in jeans and other gender neutral clothing.

Makes a change from it being anti trans 🤷‍♀️

Identify as whatever you feel like but it doesn't trump women's rights. No one is anti trans, we just don't agree that the feelings of a few over ride hard won protections for women.

How about you waste more of your time quoting all the others who didn’t give an actual example too.

There was a thread recently on AIBU where a bloke was wondering whether he should break up with his new GF because she didn't like the fact that his dog slept on his bed with him. The general consensus that neither person was BU but that the couple were just not compatible with each other, but there was a small handful of crazy dog posters frothing at the mouth and saying things like "how dare she! I bet your fur baby is cleaner than most humans!" and "bet she's a wicked stepmother in the making!". It was batshit.

Dwappy · 21/04/2025 11:28

Why does someone not wanting to be approached by a dog mean they hate dogs? I don’t hate dogs. There’s a couple of friends dogs I really like. I’m considering getting a dog when I’m older and have more free time. But I do not want to be approached or annoyed by random dogs on a daily basis.

If a dog is just sitting in a cafe or pub I couldn’t care less. I start to care when the dog is suddenly sniffing my plate and the owners are making no moves to call the dog back. If anything they just smile over.

If a dog is on a train/tube sitting by its owner I don’t care. But when it’s on a long lead and it’s now half way down the carriage and trying to sniff in my shopping bags I do care. I can’t put 4 bags on my lap and the owner is laughing saying “you must have tasty things in there!!” No. Call it back. It’s not funny.

Going for a nice walk and being jumped up at. Going for a run and being chased or barked aggressively at. Even trying to have a walk and the owner is on the phone looking down and the dog is on a long lead that is stretched avoid the entire pavement so you have no where to go except in the road to get round them.

I don’t hate dogs. You could word it that yes all those situations is the owners fault. This is true. But sadly it’s the dog causing the annoyance so you will get people complaining about dogs. Because it is the dog with its face in my dinner not the owner.

Useyourfork · 21/04/2025 11:31

Someone tried to take a small dog on the rapids ride at a theme park.
They almost got away with it because when the ride operator saw its little face peeping out the top of its owners coat, he initially thought it was a badge.

Hmm was it though? There Is a proven relationship between the way a person treats animals and the way they treat humans.

But yes I understand not everyone likes animals on their furniture / bed. And that doesn’t mean that these people would be eg. ‘wicked step mothers’. If I was a betting person however..

My wicked step monster loves dogs. Their three are very much part of the family unlike her (fortunately adult) step children.

My local fancy deli/bakery/butchers is dog friendly, well-behaved dogs are welcome on a lead.

I don't think it has any negative impact on hygeine, I haven't heard of any mass outbreaks of food poisioning

Ah, Exhibit A, right on cue!

My DM's retriever is currently curled up happily in her basket in the floor. It's her bed.

There is a relationship between treating animals badly and treating animals badly, yes. But a person not wanting to sleep in the same bed as a dog is not an example of that Hmm

wastingtimeonhere · 21/04/2025 11:40

Flipping the scenario, silliest place for children....Locally we have a dog park. Its an enclosed area for exercising dogs, with solid 'agility' equipment. It has signs denoting it's purpose. It's open to all though so not suited to reactive dogs, you can open the gate and walk in. There were 4 dogs with a couple of owners and here was a family in there with a couple of kids. Mum complained about the dogs there, and little girl complained that there weren't swings. Another dog owner pointed out the childrens play park further across the playing fields. Apparently the play equipment was better there. 🤷🙈😂

Maybe it’s true. I don’t want someone’s random dog eating my pub dinner or someone’s random child. I wouldn’t want to sleep in a bed with someone else’s dog or someone’s else’s child. Must make me evil seeing as I feel the same about both.

What do you mean by "if I were a betting person..." then? That someone who doesn't want to sleep with a dog is likely to be mean to children??
