Of course women will be safer

Following the Supreme Court ruling. I’m flummoxed by the amount of women I considered intelligent friends, posting rubbish about how women are actually no safer and this ruling is just anti-trans. I just don’t understand how intelligent women are coming to this conclusion.

The main argument seems to be that men will be men and will still rape and assault.

Of course they will.

But now, they can no longer just assert ‘I am a woman’ and automatically be able to enter women’s spaces unchallenged to do this. And this did happen, a few examples below.

They will no longer be able to enter women’s changing rooms and film teenage girls naked. They will no longer be able to enter the women’s toilets in Morrisons unchallenged and sexually assault a 10yr old girl. They will no longer be able to be housed in women’s prisons raping vulnerable women in the shower. This will all stop.

Yes, I do understand the negative impact on a few trans women and I feel for them, but why should ALL women put themselves and their daughters at risk for this tiny minority? I just don’t get it. If you’re campaigning for anything, campaign for 3rd spaces surely? But don’t campaign to allow any man the right to enter women’s spaces.

I have no issue with trans people in any way (I know a few) but I just can’t understand this argument that all women should be more at risk. Of course most trans women aren’t a threat. But men pretending to be women for access to women ARE a threat. And this ruling makes it harder for them to rape and assault us.

The amount of friends I’m seeing posting this rubbish has thrown me. I feel like I’m in an a weird alternate reality.

There have been plenty of posts by women on other threads that said that they have been challenged in changing rooms because people thought they were men. Just because you have a limited definition of femininity, doesnt mean that women don't have problems. You've even used too tall as a way of telling a man from a woman FFS!

I certainly never heard of this happening before blokes started to demand access to women's spaces and even since never actually seen or heard of this from a reliable source.

Women are now going to be put on situations where they have to prove they are biologically female to claim the protections that we are entitled to. For example, several police force have now said that male police officers will strip search trans women (and by extension, any woman they think is trans who doesn't happen to be carrying her birth certificate to prove that she was female at birth).

You may be part of tiny minority of the population who claims they can’t tell by looking what sex a person is.

Interestingly there is a huge crossover between this population (let’s call you ‘sex-blind’) and trans activists. It is an odd affliction as even many animals can tell what sex a person is quite easily and they don’t even know about fashion.

Thankfully the vast majority of people do know, so this ruling is beneficial to women who now won’t be searched by the male police officers with a certificate they bought for a fiver to say they are really a lady.

Maybe your sex-blindness is treatable - I suggest seeing a doctor as your safety could be at risk if you can’t spot which humans are men.

There is usually something about a trans woman that betrays the fact that "she" is actually a man. Too tall, broad shoulders, voice too low, masculine face shape, clothes or makeup too loud, masculine walk, just generally male aura. No need to doubt or check a bio woman.

Too tall and a your way of telling someone isn’t female? Do you think women can’t be tall?

Broad shoulders? Lots of women proudly weight lift and strength train so will have broad shoulders and a muscular physique.

StMarie4me · 20/04/2025 14:13

No, they can assert “I am a trans man” and walk into the women’s toilets, even when they are a cis man. And none of you will be able to object.

You’ve invited nefarious threatening cis men into your toilet.

You don’t honestly and seriously think this is the case do you?

And you’re also saying that the trans community is untrustworthy and won’t be honest about what sex they are so that’s why checks will be needed. Which is pretty shitty thing to say about the trans community. Why don’t you think they’re a trustworthy community?

Why is this any different to before the ruling, when any man could walk in and say he is a woman, and none of us were allowed to object?

We are (temporarily I hope) in an alternate universe are reality.

One where female prisoners sexually assaulted by male sex offenders are the ones who get punished for complaining about the sexual assaulted

One where the authorities think it is perfectly sane to place a male paedophile in a women’s prison (by its nature with lie security) with a mother and baby unit.

One where high street brands think it perfectly fine to let men in the women’s changing rooms (despite the extremely high risk of filming or voyeurism) and punish the member of staff that tries to remove him (that specific example was Monsoon as I recall - they sent him a free dress as an apology, but Mango, Primark, M&S, John Lewis etc are all culprits).

One where women get thrown out of rape support groups, pregnancy support groups, breastfeeding help services, PCOS groups etc for objecting to a man being included.

I could go on for hours (sorry 😁)

We need to keep pushing and shouting about this so the fence sitters can see what garbs they are allowing to pass unopposed.

Men have really done a number on us haven't they when we're arguing amongst ourselves about how women should access women's only spaces 😢

OhWhistle · 20/04/2025 14:31

An increase in authoritarian legislation soon will be used against women.

Look around you. This is about increasing state control of bodies and individuals. Not about women's safety.

Is there going to be new funding or restored funding for women's and children's services now? For making public places safer and amenities more accessible? If not why not?

Next step will be legislation to protect men's spaces from feminists.

Also, Black women and women who aren't conventionally attractive have always been harassed and classed as non-women. E.g. larger, more simply dressed, working class and so on. They are now less safe.

JLou08 · 20/04/2025 14:36

I don't believe women will be any safer. You say the changes only upset a minority. Those examples you give are an even smaller minority, it's looks like they're all in the US too. There are huge levels of sexual assault, most of it taking place in family homes. If someone is so depraved that they want to sexually assault someone they will find a way, stopping trans women from going into women's toilets won't save anyone.

Boody hell. If you men's rights activists put half the mental contortions you have into literature we'd have whole new genres. You don't half talk a lot of bollocks. Domestic abusers aren't generally sneaking into ladies loos because they know where they'll get charged.

You’ve invited nefarious threatening cis men into your toilet.

But….. “cis” men were doing that before just by saying I am a woman. And no one was allowed to object then because it was transphobic to question someone’s gender identity. Women are allowed to have beards and penises remember!
So are you just saying you don’t believe anything has changed? The cis men that claimed to be women can now just claim to be transmen? That would be a valid concern if it’s what you believe. But surely you don’t think it’s only bad for these terrible cis men to claim to be transmen rather than transwomen?

OhWhistle · 20/04/2025 14:48

I've been seriously sexually assaulted and also perved at by women, including a bathroom incident at school. A lot of people I know have been assaulted e.g. by female childminders. It's often not as heavily violent as male assault nor can it cause pregnancy but it happens.

I'll only feel safer when there is more concern about addressing violence as such.

I feel less safe seeing the violence with which binaries are being enforced in the name of my rights. Not in my name.

Can the 37% of people who say I’m being unreasonable articulate why? I genuinely want to understand as I don’t get it. Maybe I am wrong, but I need to know why!

There is no point because you people (the self-proclaimed ‘gender critical’), never even attempt to approach the topic with good faith.

You asked what she was on about. I responded with well-known stories about three well known people. I'm obviously not saying they are true, of course they aren't. But they are examples of women with non-traditional looks being harassed and judged for that fact. I've seen the Obama one discussed on MN. Nothing to do with incels.
