Just this really
obviously not service dogs

but why all of a sudden is it ok for dogs to be allowed places where others are eating?!?

OP posts:
DarkForces · 19/04/2025 18:47

Dogs were allowed in pubs before children were

But behaviour from children and entitlement from parents is getting worse.

What's that got to do with dogs? If anything allowing dogs in compounds the problem.

We were all children once. Dogs simply don't have the same rights as us!

Agree.
We’ve been dog owners for years and never felt the need to take our dogs everywhere with us.
Ive seen people drive their dogs to the retail park just so they can take them in to Pets at home, and then the idiot owners stand there whilst the poor NMW workers clean up their dog shit.

The last time I read a thread on this topic, a dog had crapped in the cafe where a pp had ordered lunch. Disgusting.

Just leave your fucking dogs at home or sit at an outside table!

I refuse to eat at places that have dogs inside now, I don’t want some pooch chasing it’s puppuccino cup around my feet on it’s stupid extendable lead whilst it tries to lick the last of the froth out, with it’s idiot owner giving me a simpering smile.

I refuse to eat at places that have dogs kids inside now, I don’t want some pooch kid chasing it’s puppu babyccino cup around my feet on it’s stupid extendable lead reins whilst it tries to lick the last of the froth out, with it’s idiot owner giving me a simpering smile.
Horses for courses. Whatever we hold dearest is more important than someone else's dearest in most situations.
But as others have said, many, many posts exist on this topic.
Edited to say, the first paragraph is there for illustrative purposes, not a stance.

Our local restaurants have good policies - certain areas for dogs, others dog-free. Everyone's happy and yes our dog absolutely loves to go for a long walk and then relax under the table with a rug and biscuit 😊

My dog smells devine from her popcorn toes to her Kiehls washed fur. ❤️

She doesn't. She has dog breath

I recently had an incident when shopping. I had a drink and was just looking around when a staff member told me they didn’t allow food and drink. They are dog friendly. I politely asked why and it was explained that there could be a spillage- I reminded them it’s a lot more likely that a dog will mark items of clothing somehow or have an accident. Then I just carried on.

This.
I used to have a friend who would bring her little boy with her when we met in cafes and just let him wander about and talk to other people. When she had a new baby and they were at the crawling stage, she would just put her on the floor and let her go wherever. Irresponsible and dangerous.

I’m simply pointing out that if we’re going to get dogs sitting quietly under tables are much more preferable to badly behaved children of which there are many.

Such a stupid comment. We're humans, living in a human society. Children are of course allowed to be in restaurants etc, and up until recently we all agreed that dogs had no place in indoor human areas.

No now that is stupid, we are humans living on planet earth. It’s not planet human. I don’t think kids should be banned, and I never said that, I said they are often more annoying that dogs. And dogs have been allowed in pubs for longer than children have!

That is not an incident. Not allowing food and drink in clothing shops has been a thing for as long as I can remember.
And the vast majority of dogs are housetrained and know not to pee indoors.

How do you suggest the dogs access the dog wash, coat, cone, collar etc trying on area, scales or vets in pets at home without walking into the shop?

I don't recall learning about any other species of animal building a restaurant..?

Back when dogs were treated like dog not fur babies on vegan diets who cannot be left alone. When dogs where let out and fed proper meat and bones and have the chalky white poo.

Those were dogs. These are doggies.

Oh yeah, very smart argument, kids are frequently on building sites putting in the bricks you are right 👍

Well I would rather ZERO dogs, and for children to be well behaved. I still dont get your point.

If the shop has a rule about no food and drink, then you are being a CF by ignoring that.

Alwaystired23 · 19/04/2025 18:52

I don't mind dogs, in dog sections of cafe/pubs/restaurants. That makes more sense to me. My parents had a lovely border collie, we occasionally took in her some dog friendly places. She was the best dog, she was quiet, barely ever barked. She'd sit under the table, not bothering anyone or making a sound. She wasn't keen on other dogs at all. It's dogs that don't stop barking and the owner just ignores that annoys me more. Myself and dh were enjoying a weekend away last week, we called in to a cafe that also allowed dogs, fine, no problem, but one dog didn't stop barking and crying, and it IS annoying.

lactofree · 19/04/2025 18:52

A dog is a lot of people’s personality. Look at me, I’ve got a dog.

and I wondered others opinions, and I thought a forum with opinions would be a the right place.
if that’s ok with you.

What a boring Saturday evening you must be having, I feel for you.
Must dash, off to have dinner with my family (and lovely dog) now. 🤗

Kardamyli2 · 19/04/2025 18:53

I am allergic to dogs which makes life difficult at times. It used to be that you would only find dogs in some cafes and pubs. Now they're everywhere. If I'm going out for proper lunch or dinner I have to ring ahead and make sure they don't allow dogs.

quantim · 19/04/2025 18:52

I’d rather have zero children so there you go, we all have to compromise. You don’t own cafes, they want the business and people want to take their dogs and children. Such is life.🤷‍♀️

MoveYourSelfDearie · 19/04/2025 18:54

I absolutely hate dogs
If they are on a short lead, sat/laid down, don't make any noise or smell, and cannot reach me from where they are I'm ok with them being in the cafe/restaurant

Obviously this isn't realistic, so I'll restate that I hate dogs
