Just this really
obviously not service dogs

but why all of a sudden is it ok for dogs to be allowed places where others are eating?!?

I agree. Dogs should not be allowed in food establishments
( except service dogs )

I also think all dogs should be muzzled when outside of their home

Please tell me why I should muzzle my elderly chihuahua? She has never in her life bitten anyone, and now has about 4 teeth. She does enjoy a visit to our local pub on a Sunday which does a dedicated doggy Sunday roast. There are many, many other local establishments that do not offer that and where dogs are not welcome. She obviously doesn’t go there. That is always an option for people too.

YANBU. There's no need for a dog to be in a cafe. Or a charity shop, or a gift shop, or the Co-op which are all places I have encountered dogs recently thanks to their entitled idiotic owners.

If the dog is allowed in and is well behaved how is the owner idiotic? Just because you don’t like dogs? I hate kids that scream and parents who change nappies at the table in cafes, but that’s just what public places are like isn’t it?

JackGrealishsCalves · 19/04/2025 18:26

I'm not really a dog person but will tolerate them if they are quiet in cafes etc and sit quietly but all too often you get one that constantly woofs, either very loud deep woof or very loud squeaky woof.
We had one yesterday at the table behind that kept getting up and looking at us for food.
Same with these small craft breweries, everyone just has to bring the dog.... why?
Pretty sure if these dogs could talk they'd be like teenagers and say bugger off I want to stay at home thanks

Stayperfect · 19/04/2025 18:27

I love it. There aren’t many dog friendly cafes but we hunt out the ones that are. They’re always packed with lovely well behaved dogs and happy owners spending a fortune. Love the Lounge franchise. Our dog loves them. She people
watches.

FortySheepNoSleep · 19/04/2025 18:27

It’s getting out of hand. At an outdoor retail outlet today and many dogs around. I expected to see them in the outside areas but they were in the retail stores too. Why? Do dogs like shopping? Seems unfair on the animal if nothing else.

Worst was a massive dog pulling on lead in and out shops then it came into a chocolate Easter egg decorating workshop my DS(4) attended. The dog was accompanied by 3 adults and 2 children. Only the children did the chocolate decorating activities yet the dog and all 3 adults came into the small area. Disgusting - my DS is nervous of dogs and was enjoying decorating until this massive dog sniffed around him. Not to mention the hygiene aspect of an animal around foodstuffs.

RealityContinuesToRuinMyLife · 19/04/2025 18:14

Agree.
We’ve been dog owners for years and never felt the need to take our dogs everywhere with us.
Ive seen people drive their dogs to the retail park just so they can take them in to Pets at home, and then the idiot owners stand there whilst the poor NMW workers clean up their dog shit.

The last time I read a thread on this topic, a dog had crapped in the cafe where a pp had ordered lunch. Disgusting.

Just leave your fucking dogs at home or sit at an outside table!

I refuse to eat at places that have dogs inside now, I don’t want some pooch chasing it’s puppuccino cup around my feet on it’s stupid extendable lead whilst it tries to lick the last of the froth out, with it’s idiot owner giving me a simpering smile.

If my dog needs a harness or coat of course I’m going to take her in pets at home so I can try them on her for size. 😁

chattyness · 19/04/2025 18:28

We don't take our dog to restaurants or any other place to eat any more. Mainly because I don't trust dog haters & mean children. We get a takeaway and find a nice peaceful spot to eat it, so we can stay with our dog.

UndermyShoeJoe · 19/04/2025 18:28

A local garden centre announced a ban on non service dogs and the owners were outraged. Cancel my membership I won’t be back, if doggy isn’t welcome I’m not welcome. Bat shit 💩

The reason they banned the dogs, dogs knocking over items, jumping on display furniture, shitting and pissing inside owners not clearing, fights between dogs. Fights between dog owners.

What does a dog get out of going to a garden centre? Or a restaurant or a shop other than a walk in an over crowded place that in some cases smell like food they cannot have and loud drunk adults/children playing.

BeingScouseIsMySuperpower · 19/04/2025 18:29

I went out for dinner the other week, 8pm, small restaurant.

Some couple walked in with 2 massive dogs. I looked up and said to my DH that if they are next to me, I’m leaving.

Sorry, but I don’t want to go out at night to a nice restaurant and share it with 2 massive dogs.

It’s unhygienic.

The dog was “looking at you”? Oh no, how on earth did you cope??

Salad666 · 19/04/2025 18:30

I'm sick of babies and kids under 16 being in cafes and restaurants. Ban them before the dogs👍🏻

Dreamingi · 19/04/2025 18:32

Fluffyyellowball · 19/04/2025 18:23

There are plenty of cafes and restaurants that aren’t dog friendly. If I hated dogs as much as you seem to then I would just go to those rather than get myself in such a tizz that I felt the need to rant online about it.

Yes
three sentances is definitely a rant.🙄

I own dogs and i love my dogs but i really don’t get the need for people to take their dogs absolutely everywhere with them! Its not like the dogs enjoy crowded shops and restaurants, its selfish and needy of the owners.

My friend just told me a story about a woman taking a "support" dog into her child's swimming lessons.

This dog is not a registered guide dog.

This dog is allowed to walk pool side and into the showers.

Absolutely disgusting 🤮

She complained to the manager and they don't care. (Aka, can't be arsed dealing with it) Her child had to leave lessons as a result. Unbelievable.

Well, I am off on holiday in a few weeks with my dog. She will be coming everywhere with me as you are not allowed to leave them alone in the accommodation.

StillTryingToKeepGoing · 19/04/2025 18:34

Popped into a cafe today and two dogs were having a full on row / snarling and growling at each other, pulling at their leads to get to each other. Owners trying to drag back to under their respective tables. And everyone trying to politely ignore whilst raising eyebrows. Another dog owner came in, saw what was going on and immediately withdrew.

Globules · 19/04/2025 18:34

There can never be enough threads about this as far as I'm concerned.

In the last week I've seen a dog lick a plate clean and another dog fussing round my ankles expecting me to feed them.

In both cases, I blamed the owner not the dog.

Entitled dog owners are the problem, not the dogs.

Whilst Spoons isn't my food outlet of choice, I applaud their policy of banning all (except guide) dogs. It makes me choose them over other establishments when a decision needs making.

Dreamingi · 19/04/2025 18:34

To those comparing a dog to a child,or children please have a quiet word with yourselves

Hardly all of a sudden. It's been the case for years.

Post Covid has seen a boom.

Suffolker · 19/04/2025 18:35

We were eating at a pub recently where I saw a woman with a dog sat on her lap (Dachshund I think) let it lick crumbs off the top of the table. I don’t mind dogs if they are quiet and sit out of the way, but I don’t want dogs disturbing my meal and certainly not licking the table.

Then be normal and employ a dog sitter.

Oh god, our local Costa have started to allow dogs. I genuinely don’t have an issue if they sit under the table quietly. But there was a group of 3 young women (20s I’d guess) with a bloody dog that just barked all the bloody time. I was there for perhaps half an hour and they were there when I arrived and still there when I left. The staff should REALLY say something.

No, the holiday is for my dog as well as me. She loves beaches and it will sadly be her last holiday as she is old and her time with me is coming to an end.

This!!! The behaviour and noise that is deemed ok in restaurants and cafes these days. 😱
