Just this really
obviously not service dogs

but why all of a sudden is it ok for dogs to be allowed places where others are eating?!?

Why are you comparing a dog with a small human being? My child was sick in a store once and I asked for a mop to clean it up too. She had actually had an allergic reaction and that was just the start of it. If a person is genuinely sick and not drunk, it’s one of those unfortunate things. An animal being sick, pissing whatever is still just an animal, someone’s pet, plus they are more much more prone to piss shit and drink than a human. They aren’t the same or even close in any way. Dog owners think because customers and cafe owners don’t scream at them to get out, it means their dog is welcome- look at the mn poll.

Because both can vomit unexpectedly inside and it need clearing up. Hth.😁

Dreamingi · 19/04/2025 18:12

The dog brigade will try to say your child shouldn’t be out not the dog

they always compare dogs to children.

‘The dog brigade’ ???

I can’t help but think you posted just for an argument with a comment like that…

But actually I have 2 dogs, never have I ever taken them into town, nor would I want to! I adore my dogs and do proper forest walks with them where they can run off lead and be dogs…. I hate nothing more than seeing dogs looking terrified in crowds of people or being told to sit still while their owners sip tea!….. I agree dogs should walked then left home!

I'm not talking about dog friendly places, I'm talking about places which are not explicitly dog friendly but which might turn a blind eye if someone just walked in with a dog.

Where I live that’s everywhere though. There literally isn’t a cafe in my town that doesn’t allow dogs. Not all say so explicitly, it’s just expected.

Very difficult if you have allergies/hate dogs.

I don’t find it bitchy, she wasn’t unwell until she was, sudden and projectile and unforeseen.

Being bitchy would be clarifying they aren’t anywhere near the same due to being an animal much like a pig or goat, with the example. Your child is run over accidentally, deep tragedy forever. Your dog is, go to pet shop and buy another…

My dog is nearing the end of her life. We are going on her last holiday in a couple of weeks. When she dies, I will be absolutely devastated, and I wont be rushing out to "replace" her. You can never replace a loved pet any more than you can just pump out another kid after losing one. Each one is different.

Dog can be suddenly unwell in public too. Any person or animal can.

mathanxiety · 21/04/2025 19:12

Dreamingi · 19/04/2025 18:12

Or people could stop taking animals to people places.

This is a much better idea than people who don't like it staying home.

Though people who don't like it because of extreme allergies do stay home or avoid businesses that allow animals.

FlyMeSomewhere · 21/04/2025 09:36

Because it's a common behaviour from whether it's kids or dogs and kids and be a real nuisance to other people when parents don't keep them controlled in public. I've been in beer gardens a number of times with kids running around a table, knocking it and nearly spilling drinks etc. attitudes need to be altered in terms of both kids and dogs because it's the same root issue.

There’s a saying: you get the child (or dog) you deserve.

How can you "stop" dogs?

Humans are far more of a menace to dogs than they've ever been to us.

I wonder if other people would say that? 😂

Onleemoi · 21/04/2025 19:25

I’d take a million dogs over the majority of whinging pricks on MN. And their kids.

I lost a dog last year and I'm still grieving. It devastated me more than some relatives dying, because she was a constant, comforting, presence in my life.

You underestimate the companionship dogs give people. Go and tell an elderly person whose only company day to day is their dog and most of the socialising they get is from other dog walkers on their daily walk out that they can just "buy another one" because losing it isn't a tragedy.

You don't have to like them in shops and cafes, but that was an uncalled for, nasty comment.

That’s another thing, dogs in hotels, another thing to look out for when choosing to book, at least there is some choice out there for now to avoid rooms that have had dogs in them.

I am glad you agree. My dog was very unwell a few months ago and I had her booked to be PTS at home. I was not eating or sleeping. I was a fucking wreck... and that was just anticipatory grief. She got through it and is still here, but her mobility is getting worse and I will have to make that decision again in the next few months. It seems harder in a way as she is also happy, even if her legs are not.
She has been my constant, my companion, my best friend, for over 14 years. I truly think I will die with her when she leaves me.

Onleemoi · 21/04/2025 19:38

Part of me died with her last year. She was with me through some of my darkest times providing unconditional love and a little bit of light. Without her, there was a time I'd have never gotten out of bed. But you do it, for them, and it gets you through. That face looking at you with love, a snuggle when you need it most, they are just better than most people.

I'll never not miss her, no matter how many other dogs come through my home. In the same way I still miss my family dogs from when I was younger. They take a tiny piece of you and you keep a piece of them.

They are family.

And I'm not one of the people who treats them like a child. I don't take them shopping. I do take them on days out / holidays but I book cottages that are comfortable for the whole family.

The dog haters on here will just never get it. But I never trust a dog hater, because how can anyone hate such a pure animal?

Thank you. We are lucky as I thought our holiday last year was the last but this one really will be. Dogs are blessed in that they live in the moment and don't think about their own mortality. That is left to their people. it is so painful but such a huge privilege too.

Enjoy your holiday. We almost didn't go last year because DD didn't sleep well the year before and DDog was unwell but I'm so glad we did because we lost her just over a month later. And she loved the beach, so I'm glad we got to take her one last time.

Exactly. I am allergic and it's a nightmare trying to find somewhere that doesn't allow dogs. Even the places which aren't explicitly dog friendly don't seem to stop people who wander in with dogs.

I agree, I would ban oeople from taking pet dogs into public places. They are an environmental disaster and far too many are completely out of control.

ThatRareHazelTiger · 21/04/2025 20:58

Even moterway services, our table was surrounded by 3-4 dogs. Not relaxing at all listening to yapping dogs.

So people should only have dogs on their private property?
I am sure not taking them out for walks and enrichment is cruel.

It is people who are destroying each other and the planet. Not dogs.
