Just this really

but why all of a sudden is it ok for dogs to be allowed places where others are eating?!?

Not really all of a sudden is it. Stop going to restaurants if you don’t like it.

What an entitled response.

Onleemoi · 21/04/2025 14:00

The entitlement is “this cafe is not to my liking. Change it!”

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 21/04/2025 13:58

Or they may tell you that seventeen dogs have been in today, so you'll have to leave because they won't risk any liability if you come into contact with dog hairs.

Yes this is my experience of saying we have allergies (non dog wise)

Sometimes we've been refused service as they can't guarantee the allergens aren't present

Mostly you get a reading of a script, and we've then been not allowed to order certain menu items etc

There's a risk you get a computer says no response and ushered out

Stayperfect · 21/04/2025 14:01

Kardamyli2 · 21/04/2025 13:55

Or they may prevent anyone bringing a dog in while I'm there

No they won’t. They own the place and will be dog friendly for the revenue. They aren’t going to turn away multiple dog owning groups to keep one entitled customer who could go to many other dog free options happy.

Oh silly me, I didn't realise your omnipotence. Of course you know what every single restaurant and cafe will do.

If you that allergic to dogs, then why go to a dog friendly cafe?
You can't go to a place that welcomes dogs then expect them to ban them for the duration of your stay. That would be very entitled of you.

I'm not talking about dog friendly places, I'm talking about places which are not explicitly dog friendly but which might turn a blind eye if someone just walked in with a dog.

Well of course any dog friendly cafe would do that. They will have advertised and made themselves known as a dog friendly cafe. Why on earth are they going to say goodbye to revenue let alone risk pissing off their regular and potential new customers.

Crikeyalmighty · 21/04/2025 14:10

I love dogs but having ones coming round sniffing at your table or under the table is a bit off - some are very poorly trained these days. I think many were purchased during lockdown as ‘something different ‘ and have unsuitable owners

They don’t exist. Cafes either take dogs or they don’t.

Yet again, for the hard of thinking, I'm not referring to places which explicitly call themselves dog friendly.

Any cafe that says dogs are ok is called dog friendly.

You may not know though.

I know for example my local is dog friendly, because I've asked. There's no signs etc. Weirdly if you look online it says dogs aren't allowed because it's talking about the restaurant bit and the owners have never bothered to explicitly say they are allowed in the bar area

Its the same for many places. Sometimes they advertise on dog friendly listing sites, sometimes they are on online registers, sometimes it's hidden in reviews, sometimes it's on their website.

Only a few end up having stuff on the door, of a clear sign visible to say they do. People might assume I'm obnoxiously walking in with a dog, but I've always researched it

Its actual fairly hard to check unless you directly ask.

The lack of clarity does mean though that people will often walk in to check, because it's not clear that they cant

I know that cafes make a choice and the cafes that take dogs are called dog friendly. I also know that they don’t dick about on a whim or for the entitled demands of MNers.

Absolutely but that cafe will still be dog friendly or not. They aren’t going to suddenly become not friendly because Kardamyli2
demands they do.

WibbleyPie · 21/04/2025 14:27

The problem isn't dogs, or children, it's entitled people who think the world revolves around them and should put up with however they want to behave, and the lack of social/legal concequences for behaving that way.

Some of those people are dog owners, some are parents and some are both. Some are neither but they will still be making things uncomfortable and miserable for others with their behaviour. People who behave like that don't need to have a dog, or a child - they're just an extension of that person and come under their entitled attitude.

You can ban dogs from everywhere but it won't stop that attitude.

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 21/04/2025 14:43

Kardamyli2 · 21/04/2025 14:08

They may, or they may be the type of place that doesn't allow dogs at all.

Um...if you read the quote history you responded to a PP saying if it was a dog friendly cafe they'd tell you this by saying they may just not allow dogs in while you're there. Hence the numerous posters then suggesting you don't go to dog friendly cafes, being allergic and all.

To refresh you:

If it’s dog friendly they’ll just say we’re a dog friendly cafe.*

The amount of people that compare children to dogs on this is actually appalling

Edited

We’re in England, don’t forget!

They much prefer their pets to their children 🤷‍♀️
