Builder poo

Long time lurker, first time poster. DH thinks it’s quite funny, and IABU, but I’m really irked by this and I want to know what others think.

We’re having a loft conversion done, and have just had the en-suite shower room installed. Plumbing functions. The carpenter was in today and had the house to himself as we were all out.

He went to the existing bathroom, fetched a toilet roll, took it up to our brand new unused en-suite toilet, and took a dump. Nothing wrong with toilet in existing bathroom, it’s perfectly nice.

what was that all about? Does he hate us? Is he just a thoughtless male? Did he want to christen our toilet for us and leave skid marks as a gift? AIBU to be pissed off and want to complain?

Maybe he wanted to test that it functioned properly

All part of the service, Madam…

BlondeMummyto1 · 17/04/2025 22:58

Maybe he thought the family bathroom was off limits but the one being worked on was OK to use.

Yes, I imagine it was more something like that some sort of contempt. He should have cleaned it thoroughly though.

Ivesaidenough · 18/04/2025 00:54

@LittlerCharlotte no, they were self employed so no one to complain to really. I mentioned it in the feedback when the carpet company asked, but no response.Confused

UnctuousUnicorns · 17/04/2025 21:01

Not this one again! 🙄

Exactly. How many builder poo threads can we take?

Calliopespa · 18/04/2025 01:03

Shitmonger · 17/04/2025 22:09

Yeah if a builder had taken it upon himself to christen my brand new toilet with his shit I wouldn’t be thrilled about it either. It’s not professional to be shitting in your actual work site that you are supposed to be handing over to the homeowners as a testament to your workmanship. It also has the distinct air of a dog pissing on a post.

You’re definitely not unreasonable.

“Air” was not a tastefully chosen word in this context.

CherryBlossomPie · 18/04/2025 02:11

He needed to do a smelly poo and thought he'd do it out the way to avoid the embarrassment of his smells wafting round.

shamble · 18/04/2025 07:48

@CherryBlossomPie but we were all out all day and he knew that. Plus the en-suite has no door, so the wafting would be infinitely worse. Essentially a public poo.

@@Ivesaidenough that’s genuinely disturbing

I agree with PPs that he may be like the hundreds of millions of MNers who would rather die than risk anybody ever finding out that they sometimes poo - hence going somewhere that he wouldn't be heard or smelt.

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 18/04/2025 09:16

If he's a carpenter, maybe curling one out in a loft-conversion bog is the nearest he can get to being on top of the world and looking down on his creation?

rosehipstalk · 18/04/2025 09:18

I have no problem with a workman needing a poo or even using the toilet he used as others have said, maybe he felt it was more appropriate as it was part of the work site.

What I DO have an issue with is him leaving skid marks - thats so rude and gross. It's akin to washing your hands at the sink and leaving oil, cement dust and muck all over it leaving someone else to have to clean up after you. I mean, come on, sure, people need to poop but clean up after yourself at the very least. Its revolting. Its not unreasonable to expect a grown man to leave a toilet in a reasonable state FGS

Where does it say that?

Quite literally at the bottom of the first post.

millymoo1202 · 18/04/2025 09:37

Totally weird he’s used new bathroom but men are weird!

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 18/04/2025 10:14

Maybe he's ultra squeamish about using a toilet that may not be sparklingly clean and hygienic - hence a brand new virgin cludgie perfectly fits the bill - but doesn't care about leaving it clean afterwards for the next person.

Could be the poo equivalent of all the hoverers who won't ever properly sit on a public toilet for fear of it being grim, and in so doing actively make it grim by leaving pools of misdirected wee everywhere.

That's a shame, leave them a stinking (ho ho) review!

ThatBreezyHam · 18/04/2025 10:17

This is one of those polarising issues.

I would never leave a dirty toilet but some people think literally that shit happens to toilet bowls and after a few flushes the marks disappear so whats the problem?

Tameys · 18/04/2025 10:20

I would be absolutely appalled OP.
I would definitely complain to his boss.
CF.
I have had trades in many times over the years and they have never left the loo in a mess.

That is disgusting I would be disgusted.

ICanTellYouMissMe · 18/04/2025 10:21

Why do so many people on MN not know that toilets are for shitting in. Do you honestly actually care about this?!

CherryBlossomPie · 18/04/2025 10:24

shamble · 18/04/2025 07:48

@CherryBlossomPie but we were all out all day and he knew that. Plus the en-suite has no door, so the wafting would be infinitely worse. Essentially a public poo.

I think some people have poo issues.

It's either that he's s bit fucking lazy about cleaning about using a bog brush.

Or he has some kind of shame or hygiene issue about doing a poo.

Or a bit of both.

Either way I don't think anyone here is disagreeing that's it's a bit gross / annoying.

I read something horrific once about builders poo habits - apparently it's not unknown for them to take a dump in-between the walls when building a building and just box it in. I mean that puts your issue in perspective!

FlowerFairy12 · 18/04/2025 10:24

TimeForTeaAndToast · 17/04/2025 21:04

Oh my God. You'll need to take that toilet out, bash it to pieces with a jackhammer and throw the tiny pieces into the sea and then install a new one. You also need to complain to the builder's boss, get him fired and complain about him on Nextdoor. Nothing short of this will purge the offence done to your house.

Edited

Buy a new loo?? Honestly, I think I’d be buying a new house, the OP needs to be 100% sure that there’s no poo particles left behind 💩 In fact, maybe she should emigrate as well 😂

Moveoverdarlin · 18/04/2025 10:27

Thing is, where he shits is irrelevant, old toilet, new toilet. But if you’re in someone else’s home surely to god you clear it up? No one would know if I used the new one or old one because I’d get some loo roll and scrub off any skid marks. That’s what’s rank.

I’d have to say ‘bloody hell Chris, you christened it for us as well did you? You’re too kind, you can take the price of a new toilet brush off your invoice, I’ll be all day getting your skid marks off my brand new toilet.’

BobbyBiscuits · 18/04/2025 10:27

I'd have told him to clean it. There's no problem using it but it shouldn't be obvious it was used. No marks, no odour.

As for him needing to test it out, he's not a plumber? My plumber tested it with a bunch of clean bog roll, and I think one of them did a wee but I'm not gonna hold that against him.

Tbh I've not had a workman poo in my house to my knowledge. I'd like to keep it that way!

graceinspace999 · 18/04/2025 11:26

@Idontjetwashthefucker

Obviously. But are you saying that shitting on the seat and all over the bowl and not flushing is ok?

I have it on good authority that most of the mysterious abandoned villages that you read about in 'weird world' articles came about precisely owing to identical circumstances.

You need builders to build the villagers, of course; but if those same builders then take just one poo there when they're all finished, it's Goodnight Vienna and abandon hope all ye who remain.
