Sending love to trans people on MN and beyond

cassandre · 17/04/2025 20:58

This isn't an AIBU. I just wanted to send love to trans people, in the UK especially, and to other members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

This hasn't been the easiest week for trans people, but there are a lot of us out there who accept you for who you are. We have your backs and we believe that eventually, tolerance and compassion will win.💖💖💖

Love from a longtime MNer and trans-inclusive feminist.

We see you for who you are. We not only accept you, but we value you, for the diverse ways you are living out your beautiful, authentic, lives and making this world a better place 🌈

Maybe the trans community will show willing and be the first to extend this compassion towards women, or is this another thing that women are expected to facilitate?

Do women live beautiful lives too? Or only men pretending to be women? What’s the difference?

What is there to value about an oppressive group appropriating the group they oppress? Sexism and stereotypes?

JandamiHash · 18/04/2025 11:30

I mean women just seem to get on with their lives under crushing everyday sexism, and the mental load.

The day I see “beautiful transwomen” working FT whilst raising children doing 90% of the childcare as they wipe the arses of their elderly parents and run themselves into a nervous breakdown is the day I consider they have a modicum of an idea of what it’s like to be a woman and not just a “beautiful transwomen” because they now wear frocks

Will you extend this to me saying I identify as black, using make up to black up, forcing my way into black only groups and claiming I’m even more oppressed than women born black? Genuine question

You’ve literally quoted your own post, to send love to yourself.
Are you a bot?

Its very odd that so many reactions have been exclusively "but what about the transpeople?" and not "its great that women have protection where they need it, while transpeople are still protected in law". Its rather like the JK Rowling fiasco, where lots of people who'd never read what she actually wrote, accepted the fiction that she'd written something transphobic without ever checking for themselves.

RobertaFirmino · 18/04/2025 12:00

I'm not arsed about men in frocks. It's men in suits who really hurt people.

Men hurt people. How they're dressed is immaterial.

Thanks @Lostcat and @LakieLady!

It's a bit sad that some MNers are so reluctant to acknowledge the possibility of trans-inclusive feminism that it's easier to suggest that someone is a bot.

That's why I decided not to name change for this post. I'm not a bot or a troll but someone who's engaged on MN in good faith for many years.

I'm also the aunt of a wonderful trans niece and I'm proud of her.

If men in frocks are harmless we should pass a law to make them all wear frocks. If frocks are the magic antidote to harm that men do, it would be SO easy to change the world. I see a petition coming on

The bot suggestions were on the back of nonsense about penises and clitorises being the same.

What makes your trans niece female?

jeaux90 · 18/04/2025 12:07

I’m also a trans inclusive feminist as I include trans men (females) in my feminism.

Feminism is the movement to liberate women and girls from oppression. I’m not centering males in that.

Feminism should also centre the most vulnerable women in society, those in prison, in refuges, in prostitution etc

This means being able to define their rights in law and life.

I hope that helps.

If you are centring men in your feminism, it's not actually feminism though.

Believe it or not, feminism isn't monolithic. Feminism has been a site of debate for centuries and not all feminists throughout history have agreed with one another on every point.

I'm not centring men. Incidentally, it's weird that on MN, there is such a focus on trans women, to the exclusion of other members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

By its very nature however, it is about championing women. Not men at the expense of women.

Locutus2000 · 18/04/2025 12:09

Tricky one, isn't it. Regardless of one's feelings on legalities the ruling has unleashed a torrent of transphobia seemingly based on a flawed understanding that trans folk don't legally exist any more and can be attacked without consequence.

The average 'trans' person is more likely to be a confused neurodivergent teenager than the sterotypical 'bearded man in a dress' bogeyman stalking women's toilets.

The ruling matters obviously, but the judge attempted to make clear it was not a victory of one group over another.

Trans women aren't women but they are still people and many of them are terrified right now, rightly or wrongly. I've looked after too many gender confused young adults who have made serious suicide attempts (I worked in major trauma) rather than continue facing a world they perceive as completely hostile.

We don't have to be cunts just because we 'won'.

Actually gender critical feminists are so because of the disgusting homophobia we see towards lesbian women who suddenly are expected to include penises in their sex life. Do you think they want this? What’s your opinion on the cotton ceiling?

Of course you are, if you value men's desire to access women's spaces higher than women's need to keep some siaves single sex.

Potsofpetals · 18/04/2025 12:18

Love to every single female who has lost out on career defining wins and medals because they have had to compete against men.

Love to the gay men and women who have been affected by the trans movement.

Love to every single female who has felt violated when they have had to receive intimate medical treatment from a man in a dress.

I hope all you trans men now understand that we aren’t going down without a fight. You can’t get pregnant or have periods. You don’t belong in our bathrooms or in our sports. You are men. Mentally ill men. I hope you start to understand that and get the mental health help you need
