Sending love to trans people on MN and beyond

cassandre · 17/04/2025 20:58

This isn't an AIBU. I just wanted to send love to trans people, in the UK especially, and to other members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

This hasn't been the easiest week for trans people, but there are a lot of us out there who accept you for who you are. We have your backs and we believe that eventually, tolerance and compassion will win.💖💖💖

Love from a longtime MNer and trans-inclusive feminist.

Separate unisex cubicles please with a proper door, mirror and sink.
The ones with a full door are very dangerous especially to those who could suffer medical episodes. The ones with a partial opening at the bottom have been shown to unfairly affect women and girls especially with voyeurism. This has been shown time and again by multiple surveys.

How about just keep them single sex for safety and privacy of EVERYONE. Trans or not.

We see you for who you are. We not only accept you, but we value you, for the diverse ways you are living out your beautiful, authentic, lives and making this world a better place 🌈

Oh dear. What a load of self aggrandisement, virtue signalling, word soup.

I'm only surprised you didn't manage to somehow shoe-horn 'my truth' and 'my lived experience' in there somewhere?

There was always a reason for the gap. It is a Chesterton’s fence situation.

Love to every single female who has lost out on career defining wins and medals because they have had to compete against men.

Love to the gay men and women who have been affected by the trans movement.

Love to every single female who has felt violated when they have had to receive intimate medical treatment from a man in a dress.

I hope all you trans men now understand that we aren’t going down without a fight. You can’t get pregnant or have periods. You don’t belong in our bathrooms or in our sports. You are men. Mentally ill men. I hope you start to understand that and get the mental health help you need

Can you imagine speaking about any other marginalised group in such a venomous way? It just comes across as straight hatred.

If men in frocks are harmless we should pass a law to make them all wear frocks. If frocks are the magic antidote to harm that men do, it would be SO easy to change the world. I see a petition coming on

Edited

I think that this is a very good point.

Tricky one, isn't it. Regardless of one's feelings on legalities the ruling has unleashed a torrent of transphobia seemingly based on a flawed understanding that trans folk don't legally exist any more and can be attacked without consequence.

The average 'trans' person is more likely to be a confused neurodivergent teenager than the sterotypical 'bearded man in a dress' bogeyman stalking women's toilets.

The ruling matters obviously, but the judge attempted to make clear it was not a victory of one group over another.

Trans women aren't women but they are still people and many of them are terrified right now, rightly or wrongly. I've looked after too many gender confused young adults who have made serious suicide attempts (I worked in major trauma) rather than continue facing a world they perceive as completely hostile.

We don't have to be cunts just because we 'won'.

I don’t understand the whole “trans people exist!” Nonsense. Nobody is claiming trans people do not exist. Would be pretty dumb to do so given we can see them. Just saying woman is defined by biology meaning transwomen are men.

The judge doesn’t tell me what I see as a victory. The ruling OS a victory for every woman who objected to having her sex appropriated. A huge victory. That’s not “being a cunt”. The notion that women should STFU when things go in our favour to spare the feelings of men is deeply misogynistic

Also I agree confused ND teens are identifying as trans and we need to stop feeding them delusions that they are the opposite sex - another reason this ruling is so important.

@ThinWomansBrain

Accusations of transphobia don't work anymore. Try engaging with the substance of people's comments.

Transwomen are men therefore not an marginalised group.

this this this this this this this

How lovely. Yes absolutely, as people can’t change sex, even if they feel very uncomfortable in their sexed body, I’m sure we all accept people for who they are and would love for them to be happy.

It’s the people, like men, claiming that they are something they are not (ie.women) and expecting us all to agree that I will not support to my detriment and the detriment of my daughters.

BundleBoogie · 18/04/2025 12:54

RobertaFirmino · 18/04/2025 12:00

I'm not arsed about men in frocks. It's men in suits who really hurt people.

So if a man puts on a frock, you’re ok with him hurting people?

Or are you saying that putting on a frock stops men from hurting people?

PruthePrune · 18/04/2025 13:06

@RobertaFirmino

I think a couple of people may have misinterpreted your comment about being more scared of the men in suits than the men in frocks. The men in suits have the power as they are the decision makers so yes, there is more reason to be scared of them.

Lostcat · 18/04/2025 13:11

They are not marginalised. They are unwell. Often dealing with other issues such as autism and other mental health issues. It is time to be real and get them the help they need rather than doing what we have been doing for the last ten years.

Men in frocks also have power over women.

What hatred and noise?

Again the crux of TRAs is “women STFU”. You REALLY don’t like women speaking out for their rights do you?

PruthePrune · 18/04/2025 13:45

@JandamiHash

Agreed. But the power lies with the men in suits and the men in frocks have had their ear for a long time.

poetryandwine · 18/04/2025 13:53

I have two colleagues, one in the UK and one in America, who were born male and felt from early childhood that they were in the body of the wrong sex. Both have made full physical transitions and identify as women. For emphasis, they no longer have penises or facial hair and they both have breasts.

They are lovely, highly accomplished people who now feel at peace in, insofar as possible, bodies that match their identities.

Where does this ruling leave them? They certainly do not belong in men’s loos, changing rooms or on men’s wards.

I don’t think twice about welcoming them in women’s spaces, and have attended an away hen party in close quarters with one of them. I really wonder if some of you are prepared simply to exclude them from many aspects of daily life and a civilised society?

Why don’t they belong in male spaces? They are male. Be fact they “look” like highly feminised versions of women doesn’t mean they ARE women or belong in their spaces.

Going down the road of “You are a woman if you look feminine” leave gender non-conforming people in limbo.

And why would they be excluded from anywhere? Trans people haven’t lost any rights. Buying fake tits doesn’t buy you a pass into womanhood

CamillaCanterbaum · 17/04/2025 21:04

I've never understood how anyone can describe themselves as ANY kind of feminist and think it's OK for trans people to encroach in our spaces or rights?? Makes no sense.

Trans people hope your all OK, start campaigning for your 3rd spaces because trans women are NOT women

Exactly.

Third spaces - this is what the campaign should have focused on, NOT male persons in women’s spaces.

JandamiHash · 18/04/2025 13:55

They are just as vulnerable to harassment and physical threat in male spaces as any woman.

Sharptonguedwoman · 18/04/2025 14:00

Dunno about love. I'd like to send mental health support.

JandamiHash · 18/04/2025 14:03

poetryandwine · 18/04/2025 13:59

They are just as vulnerable to harassment and physical threat in male spaces as any woman.

Are they? Prove it.

So because men are at threat of other men it gives them rights to force themselves onto women’s spaces? If men are at threat of other men why is this a women’s problem to sort out?

poetryandwine · 18/04/2025 14:04

Yes, this ruling has excluded people with nonconforming gender presentations from many basic aspects of a civilised society without providing equivalent options for them.
It doesn’t matter whether they have known since early childhood that nature played a cruel trick on them, and done their best to fix it; or whether they are a chancer looking to exploit women’s spaces.

Keeping people safe is right. Needlessly excluding them is wrong.
