I think it’s hard to get excited about McDonald’s burgers if you’ve had more elaborate ones like Five Guys ?

Five guys is so overpriced for basically child sized burgers.

Child sized burgers? How big a child??? You get two patties as standard in Five Guys.

Bubblemonkey · 18/04/2025 10:48

McDonald’s burgers are awful. I’d rather go without one.

Yes. Five Guys is real food.

So is McDonald’s…

StMarie4me · 18/04/2025 12:02

We can’t go to FG as my DD28 has a peanut allergy.

Absolutely agree! All this snobbery!

it’s like saying, oh, il never eat an apple again because I’ve tried a guava 🤣🤣🤣

nobodywantsit · 18/04/2025 12:08

It’s completely different food, price level etc so not comparable.

If I was eating out at my local leisure park the choices would be Nandos, Five Guys or Pizza Hut for example.

Kind of the same level whereas McDonalds is more rushed drive thru, Deliveroo if hungover. For me it serves a different purpose/craving.

We were full after just the burgers! Ended up reheating the chips later (they weren't great)
DS can usually manage a portion that's meant to feed 2, eg half a family sized lasagne!

greentreesgrowing · 18/04/2025 15:04

That’s how I feel after trying Popeyes. Their food is fresher and cheaper - their kids meals are just £2.50 and filling. Love their chicken wraps in the kids meals - yes, I get them for myself! The fries are nice too. They are seasoned, similar to KFC ones but way nicer. I can’t eat the kfc ones so always ask for plain fries.

Whammyyammy · 18/04/2025 15:06

I can't believe people actually still go to macdonalds. I have to pass one to go to a supermarket and the queue is usually flowing onto the roundabout of main A road, so people can feed their children with that awful muck.

I have tried a five guys, admit it was OK, certainly nicer than the processed rubbish as macdonalds.

Noperope · 18/04/2025 15:39

Has anyone else tried Goodies in Greece? It's fast food but tastes fresh and is absolutely delicious. I struggled going back to McDonalds after that!

ThinWomansBrain · 18/04/2025 15:49

Love honest burgers - haven't been there in ages, the rosemary fries are to die for

I don;t like MacDonald's burgers - but the bacon breakfast muffins are amazing - and the coffee isn't bad.

Stayperfect · 18/04/2025 15:50

Five Guys doesn’t do decent veggie options or chicken. It’s a really bland boring menu at extortionate prices. I love the McDonald’s Mc Crispy or Plant Burger so I voted YABU

My absolute favourite is Shakeshack.

What makes you think McDonald's is processed rubbish and 5 guys is superior? When it comes to ingredients, McDonald's uses organic milk, free range eggs, only chicken breasts, only British and Irish meat and they list the cuts they use (unlike 5 guys). They even list the breed of potatoes which their fries are cut from.

I do myself defending MCDs a lot on these type of posts like I'm some kind of fan, when it is an occasional meal that fits the bill.
I just can't stand the snobbery and misinformation and the insistence that spending daft money gets you a better burger in 5 guys.

McDs is one of the easiest affordable places we can grab a quick meal tbh. With a mixture of gluten intolerance, dairy intolerance, veggie, pescetarian and down right fussy we can all eat there.

Sure there are plenty of other places, but not as affordable.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 18/04/2025 16:07

I love a mcdonalds.Love five guys too but we haven't got one in our town

Dustmylemonlies · 18/04/2025 17:41

McDonald's is cheap, highly processed crap. Five Guys claims to be less processed, is very expensive and still somehow tastes like crap.

WhoAreYouTalkingTo · 18/04/2025 18:04

There is a five guys near me and it stinks when I walk past.

Tarragonpie · 18/04/2025 19:18

Peanut allergies here.
McDonalds for me!!!

BeaTwix · 18/04/2025 19:31

Honest burger. I tried the new Heard at Borough. Not that impressed.

Shake shack if it's late and has to be true fast food.

Five guys is seriously overpriced.

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/04/2025 19:32

Five Guys burgers are bland and boring. Why pay twice as much if you fancy a burger?

LadyKenya · 18/04/2025 19:45

brunettemic · 18/04/2025 09:57

Obviously yes but you’re missing the point…Five Guys has been exceptional at marketing itself as better than Maccies or KFC. People fall for that and pay massively over the odds there.

In your opinion, and others no doubt. I personally think that it is better than McDonald's.

DinoLil · 18/04/2025 20:08

I'm not a fan of beef and found 5 Guys very limiting in menu choice (went with a group and the majority voted for that). McDonald's has a wider menu choice for the non-beef lover.

LadyKenya · 18/04/2025 19:45

It probably is, marginally. It’s certainly a lot greasier. But the price differential is massive and they’re able to do it because of the points I’ve outlined.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 19/04/2025 09:10

Cheap junk vs more expensive junk. I'll have a McDonald's at a service station on a long journey on rare occasions. Otherwise I wouldn't pick either.

Shubbypubby · 19/04/2025 09:57

The burgers are nice but it’s hideously overpriced for the level of service you receive (fast food). For those prices, I’d want restaurant service. Burger King do decent burgers and are dearer than Maccies but nowhere near as expensive as Five Guys.
