To think it’s hard to go to McDonalds after Five Guys?

I think it’s hard to get excited about McDonald’s burgers if you’ve had more elaborate ones like Five Guys ?

Popular and good food aren’t the same thing though! It’s just convenient, quick and reliable. The food does what it says on the tin and nothing more.

I didn’t say it was good food - I said it was the pinnacle of fast food, where the most important feature is the convenience, speed and reliability…

Eightdayz · 17/04/2025 21:28

The only good thing about 5 guys is the milkshakes.

Burger king has that name for reason you know!

lunaemma · 17/04/2025 21:28

Swonderful · 17/04/2025 21:26

5 guys is slathered in sauce - really gross. I prefer McDonald's, although I'm not keen on burgers in general.

You chose that though? You pick what you put on the burger

DoNoTakeNo · 17/04/2025 21:29

I feel contaminated after eating anything from MacDonalds.
Never had a 5 Guys, don’t really fancy one either after the above - I’d give a chip a try though 😋

You pick ketchup - you don't expect it to be absolutely dripping everywhere?!

Arlanymor · 17/04/2025 21:30

McDonalds fairly insubstantial, Five Guys is so expensive for what it is.

Junior Whopper with cheese is a bargain and tastes fantastic.

OxfordInkling · 17/04/2025 21:31

Five Guys is nice but v v v expensive. I prefer a Big Mac.

A Wendy's burger joint is opening in my area, are they nice? Never had a 5 Guys, but the general consensus seems to be that they're disappointing.

McDonald's has the best fries imo.

Wendy's is overpriced and over rated IMO. It's nice, but not the nicest.

Same as 5 guys really. Nice but nothing amazing. Although last time I ordered 5 Guys for DS2 as a treat (only the 2nd time he's had it) he didn't realise that he needed to add all the salad etc as extras and ended up with a very plain burger!

Why are you asking if someone is ok because they think Macdonalds is the pinnacle of fast food? Confused

It’s hardly an unusual opinion, Macdonalds being a popular fast food.

Agreed. I hate the whole faux head tilt thing. It's so unnecessary

stayathomer · 17/04/2025 21:33

But they’re so different- five guys to me is sit down and stuff yourself- waiting for the satisfaction, McDonald’s is just a bit of a laugh and you need something to tide you over.hate five guys fries!

I think it’s hard to get excited about McDonald’s burgers in general! They’re very much just a quick, last resort food option for us. Five Guys feels much more like a proper meal - I find McDonald’s often leaves you hungry.

This with bells on. I'm sure that I've said exactly that word for word!

Five Guys is gorgeous but very expensive. It's a treat for us. I love the shakes 🤤

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 17/04/2025 21:37

I went to Five Guys once before developing a peanut allergy. Wasn't that impressed by it (it was a long time ago now, in fairness).

Used to love KFC but hate their fries now. Maccies is hit or miss. If a Tim Hortons is available, I'll always choose that! Love Tim Hortons.

Erm it was just a joke. I didn’t spit out my coffee, but I did permit a slight wry smile

Five Guys is utter shite. And I say that as someone who likes crap food.

Meh, it is all crap imo.🍔🍟

That wasn't aimed at you. It was the poster with the fake "Are you ok?" comment

TheCurious0range · 17/04/2025 21:43

DH raved about five guys but I thought it was very bland, I don't think McDonald's is any better but at least it's cheaper.
I used to like gbk but I've not seen one for ages, do they still exist?

I did too - I miss their Kiwi Burger and Skinny Skinny Fries. They don't have them in Wales, but I used to go to the Greenwich one if it's still there? Jump off the DLR at Cutty Sark, go for Kiwi Burger, then a glass of wine at The Moth. Ahhh memories!

I always used to think who would order the kiwi burger!
They do still exist I just checked and there's one near my parents' ......
They don't do the kiwi anymore, nor the lovely lamb burger with beetroot and minted yoghurt. If looks a bit uninspiring all pretty plain with cheese, onion rings, bacon etc. The chicken burger options look good but that's not what you go there for.
They also no longer do the shoestring rosemary fries

Twas me! It was gorgeous I promise! Oooh that egg on top and the sweet sharpness of the beetroot. salivates

I know what you mean about the chicken - definitely not the main event, but I definitely had a breaded version with brie and cranberry at the Waterloo one once and that was really very nice - if that is still there!

Shoestring! That's the word! Oh so sad they don't do them anymore. They were gorgeous. I had the app on my phone and everything.

CowboyJoanna · 17/04/2025 22:02

Five guys look and smelly greasy and foul
But then again we never eat at mcdonalds because our local ones are too dangerous

ZenNudist · 17/04/2025 22:02

I wouldn't be excited about burgers but even less so about pricey 5 guys burgers. I've never actually eaten there but I've heard they are good.

My dc get excited about maccies. The only 5 guys I ever shelled out for was some extortionate priced chips and shake for ds and his mates as a special treat. We did that once when he was 13 and had heard it was great but he wasn't fussed and now would choose maccies chips and shake instead.

i will eat pretty much anywhere else before I choose 5 guys.

gertrudebiggles · 17/04/2025 22:05

I LOVE a 5 guys, but they're so expensive

inkognitha · 17/04/2025 22:08

Just for their breakfast, McDonalds will always win, and Burger King beats 5 Guys.

Amethystanddiamonds · 17/04/2025 22:15

I think Wendy's is better than both. Nuggets and burgers are better. Mind you I've not been to maccies since they started prioritising delivery drivers and leaving the rest of their customers waiting for upwards of 30 minutes for 'fast' food. I'm not a fan of 5 guys fries but DH weirdly loves the place.

chickenlettuceunderbacon · 17/04/2025 22:24

Five Guys is awful, Shake Shake every single time. I prefer their crinkle cut fries too.

To the poster who asked about Wendy's, last time it was in the UK, it was easily my favourite and would take over McDonalds.
