To think it’s hard to go to McDonalds after Five Guys?

I think it’s hard to get excited about McDonald’s burgers if you’ve had more elaborate ones like Five Guys ?

Had five guys once and it was so plain, was squashed and smushed in the wrapper. I couldn't believe people raved about it. No idea why it cost so much, the burger was so tiny too!

McDonald's - you know what you are getting, can't go wrong with a big Tasty!

tobee · 17/04/2025 22:35

Five Guys or McDonalds? Which one is better? There's only one way to find out! FIGHT!

ODFOx · 17/04/2025 22:36

McDonalds is a convenience food in emergency. It’s adequate but drab and makes no effort at a balanced meal.
Five guys is priced at a significant multiple of the McD price and is all about the options for toppings.
You are comparing ‘easy peeler’ oranges with apple crumble and custard with a price differential of >500%.
Having compared both, I’d rather make sure that I have the classic toppings in the fridge and then we can choose.

Snorlaxo · 17/04/2025 22:36

I think that a premium supermarket burger on the barbecue tastes better than Five Guys

I eat chicken at McDonalds so can’t comment if burgers have changed but the price has risen since the days that I overlooked the quality because of the price.

CheeseWisely · 17/04/2025 22:38

The first (and last!) time I got Five Guys via Deliveroo to a hotel is was £38 for two average burgers and 2 fries. I’ll stick to McDonalds thanks.

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 17/04/2025 21:41

That wasn't aimed at you. It was the poster with the fake "Are you ok?" comment

Are you ok? @sandrapinchedmysandwich
After all, it was just a joke.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 17/04/2025 22:45

We have a chain called Burger and Sauce. That is nicer than both of them put together.

YouFetidMoppet · 17/04/2025 22:51

MacDonalds food looks like the food you get in a children's play kitchen set. Never had Five Guys, but thought burger king was OK, but bloody greasy. I've had better from a pub and probably not much in it price wise. Better still make your own if you have time. Best burger I had from sonewhere to eat was from one of those lounges bar/cafe places.

MacDonalds and KFC give me a weird feeling of being violated after. I guess Five Guys I'd get a feeling of being broke instead.

Does anyone remember Wimpy? Fuck me, they were terrible.

brunettemic · 17/04/2025 22:53

Five Guys is nicer than a maccies but it’s a prime example of excellent marketing and business setup because it’s one of the most overrated places out there. The way they make people think it’s special by wrapping it in a bit of foil is hilarious. Not knocking it but fair play to them, they’ve got a lot of people bought in.

NC543210 · 17/04/2025 23:00

I think they're both grim but I like the fries from mcds.
Hate them from five guys.

Now b&q carpark burgers... that's where its at.

Alexahelp · 17/04/2025 23:02

I haven’t been to five guys in yonks (daughter has a peanut allergy, we can’t step in the door). But the overly seasoned fries were yummy. The actual burgers were wildly overpriced. I thought the teens just hung out there for the fancy mix your own soft drinks…

Oh god, not the B&Q where I live. Is next to a sewage plant. The car park stinks something awful in the summer, and they still have a burger van there.

I don’t think anyone gets ‘excited’ for a MCD. I must be weird though as I really don’t rate Five Guys. It’s nice while you eat the first few bites but the greasiness afterwards makes me feel absolutely grim.

I got really excited when they brought out the McPlant. My DH went up to our local one and ordered a veggie burger for himself and a McPlant for me. I sat waiting at home salivating.

When he got home he opened the bag and there were two lots of chips and a veggie burger. I was fucking livid with them and him 🤣. I mean who doesn't have a quick peep inside the bag when it's handed over?

Mabiscuit · 17/04/2025 23:17

I really don't enjoy Five Guys garish, bright lights. Reminds me of Wing Stop. McDonalds isn't great either but I'd prefer to go there.

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 17/04/2025 23:38

Five guys fries dipped in mayo is the greatest hangover cure.

That being said though a McDonalds double cheeseburger hits a certain spot.

Crazybaby123 · 17/04/2025 20:48

I haven't had a macdonalds hamburger for maybe 2 decades. Will eat the breakfast and chicken items but not the hamburgers, I am just not even sure what they are supposed to be. Don't trust them. I know the chicken is probably just as bad but can not bring myself to eat the burgers and I love a proper burger.

this is completely illogical

In the UK the hamburgers are 100% beef (forequarter and flank, i.e. no gristle and bone or whatever!) nothing else added at all, even salt and pepper is only added after cooking. McDonald's Hamburger - 100% Beef Burger. That's fewer ingredients than any 'plain' burger you'd buy in a supermarket - even waitrose is only 90% beef.

compare that to the long list of flavourings and stabilisers in the bun (which is obviously the same for the breakfast/chicken items), or the chicken burger which is only 58% chicken meat McSpicy® or the vegan burger which is a whole random list of stuff McPlant - Nutrition & Ingredients

The hamburger has the least additives, flavourings, preservatives etc out of all McDonalds products.

You still get Wimpy- the one near me was recently refurbished! I have never been in it though!

HRTQueen · 17/04/2025 23:58

I don’t like five guys its expensive and I don’t think it’s particularly better quality than McDonald’s

i like McDonald’s it’s cheap and tasty

In-N-Out Burger is far nicer than five guys

I love wimpy too

GiroJim100 · 18/04/2025 00:12

McDonald’s is relatively cheap and quick and does the job. It’s like the Wetherspoons of fast food. It’s difficult to get too excited about going there but you generally know what you’re getting and it won’t leave you too much out of pocket.

Never been to Five Guys but from what I know of it it seems incredibly pricey for what is basically burger and chips.

Stinkbomb · 18/04/2025 00:14

Absolutely not at all - x5 the price and not too different quality.
id rather (and have) missed a meal if 5 guys was the only option, not impressed at all.
mcD is what it is, but 5 Guys suggests that its excellent quality, which it really isn’t.

everythingeverything1981 · 18/04/2025 00:18

I had a lovely one in shake shack, Portobello mushroom mmmm.

everythingeverything1981 · 18/04/2025 00:22

Only been to five guys once and I can't say it was worth the money, I do love a big Mac tho

Moveoverdarlin · 18/04/2025 00:23

I disagree. I don’t like Five Guys chips at all. Burgers are ever so slightly nicer than McDonald’s, but five times the price. I think Five Guys is extortionate for what it is.

everythingeverything1981 · 18/04/2025 00:23

Big Mac and an iced latte and I'm happy (cheap date)

desperatedaysareover · 18/04/2025 00:24

I shat myself shortly after consuming a burger and fries from Shake Shack, but the food was so tasty I would nonetheless return. Stellar review 😂
