To let you know that Ocado think women’s rights are “hateful political views”?

Have a look at MNHQ’s post on this thread: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5316215-thank-you-mnhq?reply=143605436&utm_campaign=reply&utm_medium=share

“When we included a call to clarify the definition of sex in the Equality Act in our 2024 Mumsnet Manifesto, Ocado – who had been excited about a partnership – abruptly pulled out, citing Mumsnet’s “hateful political views”. Despite repeated attempts to explain our position – as a platform committed to amplifying women’s voices – they’ve refused to speak to us ever since.”

I was about to start shopping with them for occasional “stocking up” deliveries but they won’t be getting a penny of my money if this is their view of women’s rights. Obviously not everyone feels as I do but I should imagine women make up the majority of their customers. I won’t support a business that thinks women’s rights - or even just women being given a space in which to speak and discuss - is “hateful”.

So fuck off, Ocado, and you can take your hateful political views with you.

I don't post much on here anymore but just wanted to take a moment today to thank Mumsnet {mention:MNHQ} and Justine in particular for standing strong...

OCADO has apologised and said it was not Ocado policy but a 'contractor' who issued the edict. Good that they've apologised, I need them for my M&S food delivery BUT what sort of contractor has such control over such decisions? Can anyone working with Ocado just contact other organisations and issue demands? All sounds very dodgy and needs clarification.

Also they’ve refused to engage with MNHQ ever since. If it was a rogue contractor why continue blanking MNHQ? Surely someone on the board would have queried why they aren’t advertising on MN since? It’s literally their target market.

EasterParadeHats · 18/04/2025 21:20

I'm sorry but I don't buy ocado response for one second.

It doesn't make any sense.

I read that even refuge won't change their current policies 🥲.

However this story has made the papers and yes it's the daily mail but there is a very good article in there about it all.

chisanunian · 18/04/2025 21:39

Bloody hell. Well they can get to fuck then.

Theunamedcat · 18/04/2025 21:42

They want to EDUCATE ME? I want reasonable prices how about they stay in their lane and work on that

UrsulasHerbBag · 18/04/2025 21:50

It’s a no from me and my mum also. Sorry Ocado us mums might be invisible to you and our rights might not be on your horizons but we are typically the shoppers and spenders.

HardyKoala · 18/04/2025 21:52

I only read this today and was shocked. I use Ocado all the time. Like 2 x a week. No more

peachescariad · 18/04/2025 21:57

Fuck off Ocado

EasterParadeHats · 18/04/2025 22:03

Look up the stuff about vans and the colours on them and logos

EasterParadeHats · 18/04/2025 22:03

Someone on twitter said why not have suffragette colours to balance it out

Positivitank · 18/04/2025 22:13

Is that in mumsnet manifesto?? If so f off mumsnet. Im leaving.

I think they are conflating the current outrage over what they did in 2024 with their previous fuck up a few years ago that was blamed on a temporary contractor that no longer works for them.

I imagine a meeting at Ocado head office will be occurring after the Bank Holiday weekend!

I thought that excuse sounded familiar.🤔

QuillBill · 18/04/2025 22:43

Meadowfinch · 17/04/2025 22:14

But they offer nothing unique, and can be easily dispensed with.

Right, but that wasn’t what you said.

I guess that’s my delivery pass cancelled.
Not going to give these people my custom.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 19/04/2025 06:16

When I emailed to close my account I said

And I don’t believe it was a contractor who made the decision not to engage with Mumsnet. That excuse might be used to explain a tweet, but not a decision on an advertising campaign. You think women are stupid as well as having unacceptable opinions.

and I still got the ‘explanation’ that it was a contractor. Do Better as TRSOH say.

Is that you, Ocado’s “temporary” “contractor”? 👀

TenderChicken · 17/04/2025 18:39

Yes I stopped shopping with them when they made this clear (about 6 years ago?) with the whole "women being female is not in line with our values" drama they started on twitter.

I used to order from them every week, but have not ordered from them since. Fuck you indeed, Ocado.

Same. It was about 2018 iirc. They vowed not to use the same billboard company that had rented the space to Posie for the “adult human female “ poster. I think it was outside the Labour Party conference. It was completely unnecessary for them to wade in and they really doubled down on it and said quite a lot of fundamentally misogynistic shite. It was very much a “if someone tells you who they are, believe them” situation.

I get a Waitrose shop about every 6-8 weeks with Aldi for basics in between.

Is it still the temp contractors fault?

CamillaMacauley · 19/04/2025 13:34

I suspect the M&S and Ocado partnership may come to an end in Sept, over something totally unrelated but still another reason not to bother with them. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-68433637

Thanks for reaching out to us.

“These comments are not representative of us as a company, and we believe they were made by a temporary contractor who is no longer with the business. We apologise unreservedly to Mumsnet.

In the meantime, if you have any other questions, please get in touch. Otherwise, I hope you have a lovely day. Take care!”

So they are continuing with the lies?

Awesome, they really think you/us are that dumb 🙄

Yes and yes by the look of it. I’m still not going to shop there again.

Oh dear. They fell out with Waitrose, replaced them with M&S, and now that relationship is on the rocks. And now we find out that they’ve burnt their bridges with Mumsnet.

They sound quite difficult as a company. I wonder where they go after M&S? The doesn’t seem to be an obvious replacement.
