Hi all. AIBU to want / call the police for neighbour blasting music? I could probably tolerate but DD9 is getting very upset.

I must fit this category as I do love to blast my fav music from the car when I'm driving alone

I think as long as you’re not parked outside someone’s home or by a park, blaring music for all to hear then it’s ok as people would otherwise only hear in passing.
there are people who park up outside where I live, blasting music or have phone calls on hands free with their car windows down and their car acting like a speaker amplifying for all around. Then there are idiots who beep their horn to announce their arrival.
That is what I think of as chavvy behaviour!

TalkToTheHand123 · 13/04/2025 10:52

Blasting music from a car is a no no for me anywhere. If I'm walking past I often stop next to the car and stare with a "you for real?" smirk.

I daresay you're getting that smirk back en masses from users here

Neighbours a bit loud for first time on a warm evening, that ended before 9 and you think threats of violence are an appropriate response. One that includes a class 1 firearm.

The only problem here OP is you. You are what's wrong with the world. Instead of being able to have a normal rational conversation you want to use violence.

You belong in jail.

It may have been coincidental they turned it off at that time. I have mental health issues with sounds. The hammer and gun were a lst resort. It would take me a few nights of this to get to this stage I believe though.

Edited

You said it effected your dd. Unless I missed it you never said you had mental heath issues with sounds. Your talking hammer and guns maybe you need to reach out for help if your talking /thinking like that. Although from the other bits you have said im not sure if its a wind up .

I wouldn’t do it either but if it’s just in passing it wouldn’t bother me as its just a second .
if they want to damage their own hearing then that’s up to them !!

Of course it’s unreasonable to “enjoy music in your garden” if that means imposing your music on others. Of course, you enjoying your music in your garden only happens because your own neighbours aren’t so inconsiderate as to play their music in their garden and drown out yours.

💯

From bitter experience of living next door to arseholes who’d often play loud music at 2 in the morning. The police will not care. The only time they ever come out was when one of their gatherings spilled out onto the street. Apparently you can’t do anything about people making noise in their own homes at unsocial times.

They sound like utter scumbags!

@TalkToTheHand123 I think you need to understand the difference between acceptable neighbour noise with occasional louder annoyances that goes with living in close proximity and ACTUAL noise nuisance.

If it goes on until after 11pm then by all means call 101. But before, they won’t even let you finish your sentence before telling you it’s not a police matter.

How is blasting music so loud at any time of day classed as acceptable?

Motherknowsrest · 13/04/2025 11:21

We had a problem just over a year ago, shockingly loud music on after 11pm. No, I did not risk going round and telling them as I didn't want to get punched. I did call 101 but they said it was nothing to do with them and all I could do was to report to the council / environmental health on the Monday.
Unfortunately if I did that it would have been on record and would have affected my house when I sell. So I never reported it.

I do, however ruthlessly report that scummy household for even a fraction of mess and flytipping these days. Playing the long game here......

Are you for real, the OP's thoughts are arrestable and gaol worthy now are they- have we stepped into Orwell's, 'Nineteen Eighty-Four', and she's being arrested by the Thought Police!!

Are you insinuating that threatening violence with offensive weapons is "normal"?

Taking a hammer and/or firearm to someone's house, or threatening to is fucking ridiculous.

You've totally missed the point...what the OP was posting clearly was ironic, hyperbolic or do you actually think she would do that when she stated that she was too scared to knock the door as the people might be intimidating.

it comes to a point where if it doesn't harm anyone then why are people so bothered! a lot of people hate music and pop/rock music makes my ears bleed but if it makes someone happy that's all that matters

But blaring music is harming others ? Noise pollution is one of the biggest causes of stress, your body reacts to it even if you don’t realise it

That’s ok on deserted roads or even on a fast moving motorway. Not really ok in slow moving suburban traffic with lots of pedestrians about. I’m sure I’m not alone in disliking thumping bass or any other extremely loud noise when I’m peacefully going about my business.

Actually you’re right! I did say if its in passing it doesn’t bother me but the scenario you describe above does actually constitute a nuisance , especially if windows down. you’ve got to be pretty selfish & ignorant to inflict loud noise on others

I'm sure hearing someone else's music once in a while has never hurt anyone. we live in a small village and even here a few people occasionally have party's in their covid built bars and no neighbours complain as it's not regular. And 60% of the village is made up of people over 65

And if they told you to eff off and turn it up, then what ?

I would try the council and if it persisted alongside verbal abuse I would then contact the police. Your first port of call shouldn’t be the police for minor issues.

Perhaps you would consider Anger Management Therapy OP, for your child's sake if not yours.

TalkToTheHand123 · 13/04/2025 18:29

Anger management for what? It's more migrane causing than anger.
