To ask about shandals?

I love a shandal, mountain warehouse particularly.

BUT! Is there an actual sandal you find comfy for all day walking in the sun?

Which might look a bit better with a summer dress…

I flipping love my Keens - have you checked those out?

I wear Keens. They are expensive but worth it.

JustSawJohnny · 11/04/2025 13:06

I was honed and ready to write a defensive comment hailing OP's right to wear whatever TF she wants on her feet..................then I Googled them 😮

'Kin HELL! 😂

I've actually been living in a pair of utterly hideous, bright pink and lime green trainers for months due to having to switch back to driving a manual and, well, the site of these feckers made me feel considerably better about my poor fashion choices 😂

You do you, OP - but Jeeeeebus 😆

analyseyourdaydreams · 11/04/2025 13:32

I'd never heard of Shandals and yeah, they look a bit ugly, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they take off and become a new "ugly shoe trend" worn by influencer/fashion types - a natural successor to the fisherman's sandal and hiking sandal. Cue S&B in two years' time: "Which colour shandals for this dress?"

DancingDucks · 11/04/2025 13:41

Hah! I once suddenly needed a quick trip to Tesco, when I got there I realised I was still in my gardening crocs, I did without what I'd needed, no way was I going into Tesco wearing them!

😂 oh me too. No way would I ever been seen in public with them, I still think they're monstrous no matter how fashionable they are now.

All thanks to a Mumsnet thread right

OP, I'm in my 50s and have worn this sort of thing for years. Can't abide flimsy, backless, flip-floppy things as I love to walk and have chunky feet. Never cared much about what they looked like - even less now! Stride with pride!

Love them.

A very practical sandal. 😁

Surely you'd permanently have a stone in your shoe in those. Endless ways in but no way out.

ConnieSlow · 11/04/2025 13:59

gerbo · 11/04/2025 08:25

I've been wearing them since my kids were little and we are pretty outdoorsy too. They have that geeky look but I think they're cool too. They've taken me on many city breaks with serious pavement pounding. Go larger on your normal size so you have a little room.

I knew you would be ‘outdoorsy’ 😅 let me guess you love cargo style pants too!

TequilaAndPickles · 11/04/2025 14:06

Trumpsgoneloco · 11/04/2025 09:19

@TequilaAndPickles A lot more support than a flip flop. these are my walking shoes but I don't climb mountains for hours.

They're actually nice though, I'm thinking of ordering.

ClearPinkPlum · 11/04/2025 13:07

I’ve got those, but more often I wear a simpler Trespass walking sandal.
Id get the closed toe trainer type sandals id I was finding I was stubbing my toes a lot but I don’t think I’d want the Welsh Shandal brand toeless shoes.

meanwhile the ads are pushing the fugly comfortable shoes which somehow get a pass

To ask about shandals?

I had to google them too, because I worried that it might mean a sandal that you'd shat in. That would actually be preferable to the crimes that they actually are, or the horrific picture you posted upthread.

Edited

This has really made me laugh

OMG guys i have a sleeping baby on me who is about to wake up because i am silently shaking with laughter.

Tbh, I would not be seen dead in these. They look like a cartoon tramp's shoes; found in a skip, but the toe section has to be cut off because they are too small.

i am absolutely dying.

im sure its all said with love OP 💜

Shitmonger · 11/04/2025 14:41

To be fair the ones you’ve posted as what you had aren’t outdoorsy at all, just sort of nerd gear/nerd core. Though I have seen people attempt to hike in them and then smiled as I passed them sitting on a rock, trying to pull detritus back out of the various openings. 😂 I’ve also seen them doing that flappy-footed walk to get sand out when they’ve tried to wear them to the beach, which is even funnier.

For sandals that you can walk in I just go with a nice strappy leather pair that have a slightly cushioned footbed. As long as they have straps around the ankle or heel to keep them secure, most sandals are decent to walk in.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/04/2025 14:47

I swear by Keen or Teva.

I’m in the North too, I had no idea that your sandals were called called shandals, but my husband and son have some, they are hugely practical for the summer, and you can splodge in water safely, and walk in them.

Clearly we are both fans of walking sandals.

I also have Crocs, and have had for many years, before they were ever trendy. 🤣🤣🤣

Was that a step too far ?

I’m not a fan of them, but scandals have a toe section…they just have ‘holes’ along the sides…

KeenGreen · 11/04/2025 15:17

Who knew practical summer footwear could cause so much controversy?

I don’t own a Shandal or equivalents
I love Birkenstocks or wear rocket dog trainers in the summer. Not much a fan of many sandals. Especially flip flops which are quite frankly something the devil dreamed up.

But OP - you do you! Rock the shandal or walking sandal or whatever category it fits in. Wear them pride! Safe in the comfortableness.

I think I’ve found a gateway sandal to help me move from shandals. 😁

I like them! I think they look great. They would be great for your lifestyle.

As an aside, you'd fit right in in my neck of the woods in your shandals (UMC area of US). Most women wear far more casual clothes and footwear here than in the UK. I personally think what passes for casual in the UK veers too far toward dressy and ends up looking like neither fish nor fowl.
