Is this unflattering for a bridesmaid?

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:02

My bridesmaids range in size from 8 to 12. No one happens to be plus size.

Would this dress flatter most of the women do you reckon?

We are late 20s

i have chosen to show the image of the plus size model as I think it highlights that it works on bigger sizes. What do you think?

I agree!

Me too

Hercisback1 · 09/04/2025 22:31

All the dresses you have shown are awful on anyone who is more than a stick.

Satin is unflattering as a material.

Sassybooklover · 09/04/2025 22:32

The dress is a satin type material, which is very unforgiving, even on someone slim. It will show up any 'lumps and bumps', no matter the person's shape. It will also show underwear lines too. Someone with a small bust may get away without wearing a bra but most women would probably want to wear one. Have you spoken with your bridesmaids or taken them dress hunting? They need to like the dress you choose, feel comfortable and confident wearing it. I made sure my bridesmaids were both happy with the colour, style and fit - they were wearing the dress, not me!

Thisisittheapocalypse · 09/04/2025 22:32

As a size 10-12, I would not wear that dress. That fabric is unforgiving and unflattering.

Heronwatcher · 09/04/2025 22:32

I really like this one. Interesting fabric, looks comfy and modern without being boring.

OP on the white shroud one even the model looks like she’s got saggy tits. That neckline is horribly unflattering.

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:28

Better?

I don’t want anything matronly

No No No No

Try looking for a different fabric that doesn’t shine out every bone and bit of skin. The odd dash of good old cellulite will be on full show in that dress.

not everyone has a backside like Kates sister

steff13 · 09/04/2025 22:32

I think it looks like a nightgown.

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:33

I’m not a lover of satin as I think it’s been done to death. But it’s the main style available right now.

It’s hideous.

AncientAndModern1 · 09/04/2025 22:33

In my day (Jurassic era) we wore what the bride bought for us and put on a happy face. I believe the trend for young people is to chose a colour and brand and let the bridesmaids chose their own style in that colour and all full length eg https://www.azazie.com/gb/

The trouble is that anything satin like that is super unforgiving. I couldn't wear anything made of that material without it showing everything. It makes it nigh on impossible to wear a bra, and the same with knickers and whether or not they cut in etc. That issue applies to all three of your suggestions so far.

I agree with the poster that said you need to make sure your bridal party feel comfortable and good about themselves.

Oh dear,now it's bum cleavage.

Referring to the last grey looking dress posted by OP.

Exactly!

murasaki · 09/04/2025 22:34

You're about to achieve something I thought only my sister had managed, to find a dress that managed to look awful on 3 different women, all slim but different bust sizes and heights. I still think she did it deliberately. The green dress of doom suited none of us.

There are some lovely dresses in dusky pink, but don't go for satin unless you want them to look awful.

I would wear that over any of the other suggestions by the OP.

Iwiicit · 09/04/2025 22:35

Oh my goodness, I'm old now but in my younger, extremely slim days, I would have died before I'd wear that. The material will show up every single imperfection, fat, thin or in-between. I would also have hated showing so much of my body. I know the dress is not obscene but not all of us like having our chest, shoulders and back in display.
Can't you ask your bridesmaids what they like? Dresses also don't have to be identical do they?

JazzyBBBG · 09/04/2025 22:36

I like it and the colour but I think it's got some weird asymmetric cut going on on one side of the bust which is making it look odd. Especially if it's online only there's is a high likelihood it won't fit well.

Dogaredabomb · 09/04/2025 22:36

This one is ace, easy to wear

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:36

I love this colour. 2 bridesmaids (cousins) are half Indian and it would look amazing on them. I would ask the other bridesmaids to fake tan

I’m really struggling to find this shade of dress. I need this tan mauve colour to match my scheme. Gahhh

The "scheme" is the problem.

You cannot ask them to fake tan. You just can't.

Nonsense10 · 09/04/2025 22:37

Please tell me this is satire 🫣😂

OP - sorry but the dresses you have chosen are hideous. None of them look right.

Can we see your dress 👀

TheHerboriste · 09/04/2025 22:38

It looks like a nightgown, not a dress.

Give them the option of sleeves and more coverage. Few heavy women want to show their upper arms.
