Is this unflattering for a bridesmaid?

My bridesmaids range in size from 8 to 12. No one happens to be plus size.

Would this dress flatter most of the women do you reckon?

We are late 20s

i have chosen to show the image of the plus size model as I think it highlights that it works on bigger sizes. What do you think?

So this is the only other dress I have found that I like. But will it look weird cause the groom and groomsmen have gone for navy suits

That would look fine with navy suits.

That's nice, and I don't think it will look weird.

Kattuccino · 09/04/2025 22:25

I'm a slim, flat chested size 8 and would look hideous in this style of dress 😱

Outofthepan · 09/04/2025 22:25

The other one is better but also fairly unforgiving. Do your bridesmaids like these styles?

mummysmagicmedicine · 09/04/2025 22:26

The bust area will be a struggle. As someone with a small band and large cup those bust seams never work for me and look ridiculous as my bust is virtually all below the seam. There are so many other options out there that will compliment all body shapes and breast shapes

That’s lovely Poppy !

I agree!

safira · 09/04/2025 22:27

You need to let the bridesmaids try on and have an opinion on what they're wearing. The most important thing is that the people you love enough to want in your bridal party feel good about themselves and comfortable. Colour scheme, your taste, how it looks with groomsmen suits etc should not be driving the decision.

But what do your bridesmaids like? Have you asked them?

This is better than the first one, but the colour is dire (why all the mauve and greige?), the cut isn’t much better and again the fabric looks really cheap and flammable. There are much prettier dresses out there.

Dear me.

Bonus go for empire line flowing from under the bust

Is this a birdy grey dress? Loads of different styles and fabrics in this colour on their website!

sorry, links aren’t working (edited)

I actually love the colour but that style is very unflattering and there are some lovely dresses on this site.

OP would you consider having the same colour but letting your bridesmaids choose which style?

Ponderingwindow · 09/04/2025 22:28

It’s bias cut so will show every lump and bump. If breasts are small, they won’t fill it out. If breasts are C+ they will sag below the cup line and look odd. If they are DD or above they will look ridiculous. It’s not the kind of dress that is conducive to wearing a good bra.

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:28

Better?

I don’t want anything matronly

Can I just say I'd avoid satin. Very unforgiving fabric no matter the size of wearer. My bridesmaids were an 8 and 10 (daughters) and they wouldn't. I can however give a big thumbs up to JJshouse. We got a dark green. Material lovely. Good prices. Well made. They have a lot of colours to choose from. But the clincher for me was the try on service of £10 per dress. My girls tried on 6 (1 free so cost £50 to do so). And then we bought what they liked.
Good luck on your search!

Charm25x · 09/04/2025 22:28

I’m slim and this kind of bustline is extremely unflattering on me. Creates the illusion the waist is much bigger.

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/04/2025 22:29

I like it. Don’t like the colour, though.

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:29

I’m not drawn to anything too floaty. Looks dated to me. No offence.

@Froum is your dress the same satin bias cut type?

it’s a challenging style.

have you asked the bridesmaids?

Thunderpants88 · 09/04/2025 22:30

Absolutely hideous

If your goal is for them to look awful so you look good then missions accomplishes with that mess of a dress

Be kind and do better
