Is this unflattering for a bridesmaid?

My bridesmaids range in size from 8 to 12. No one happens to be plus size.

Would this dress flatter most of the women do you reckon?

We are late 20s

i have chosen to show the image of the plus size model as I think it highlights that it works on bigger sizes. What do you think?

Terrible dresses and asking them to fake tan? Are you deliberately trying to make them look and/or feel awful?

TryForSpring · 09/04/2025 22:38

I would ask the other bridesmaids to fake tan

😂 Dear god.

TubeScreamer · 09/04/2025 22:38

no

it is a very unflattering and unforgiving sort of fabric and shape

Upwiththelark76 · 09/04/2025 22:38

Sorry OP looks like a nightie and not a very nice one

murasaki · 09/04/2025 22:39

The sister mentioned above also asked one bridesmaid to dye her hair to match the other two of us. You can only imagine how that went down.

It did not happen.

Stop being a crazy bridezilla.

Outofthepan · 09/04/2025 22:39

@Froum … your dress?

Have you asked the bridesmaids?

APocketFullOfRye · 09/04/2025 22:39

AncientAndModern1 · 09/04/2025 22:33

In my day (Jurassic era) we wore what the bride bought for us and put on a happy face. I believe the trend for young people is to chose a colour and brand and let the bridesmaids chose their own style in that colour and all full length eg https://www.azazie.com/gb/

In my day 1998 my witness chose her own. I just asked for black.
I think it’s good people feel comfortable. I had to wear a revealing thing ( for me anyway ) for my db wedding and I couldn’t wait to get out of it.

Emptyheadlock · 09/04/2025 22:39

Truthfully, not trying to be mean, it's absolutely hideous.

Flattering to no one. The colour, material and cut would make a corpse recoil.

ilovemyhamster · 09/04/2025 22:40

Have you considered 'doing with' and not 'doing to' your bridesmaids? Collaborate, consult and ensure everyone is happy. It's a celebration not an endurance test for them. I hope you all find something you love for your special day 😊

Heronwatcher · 09/04/2025 22:40

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:36

I love this colour. 2 bridesmaids (cousins) are half Indian and it would look amazing on them. I would ask the other bridesmaids to fake tan

Now this has got to be a joke, you can’t force your bridesmaids to smear themselves in chemicals. They might hate fake tan and feel horrendous all day. Quite apart from how rude it would be.

And have you asked the bridesmaids what they like yet? You sound like you’re coming from completely the wrong angle a bit of an aesthetic obsessed bridezilla.

Hayley1256 · 09/04/2025 22:40

Your going to ask them to fake tan 😅 I hope one of your bridesmaids make their own thread

Yesterdaywassunny · 09/04/2025 22:41

You need to be talking to your bridesmaids about what they'd like to wear. Of course you should like it to, but you don't have to wear it.

If it's hard to find a dress in the colour you like, you can pick another colour, just about everything goes with navy.

Why not go to Debenhams, or Wed2Be or somewhere else with a big range and see them.in person, you can try them on to see if they're comfortable to wear for the full day.

Or let your bridesmaids pick within a colour scheme and length, so they'll be happy and it'll look more fresh.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 09/04/2025 22:41

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:21

So this is the only other dress I have found that I like. But will it look weird cause the groom and groomsmen have gone for navy suits

That's so much nicer. It won't look as weird as the bridesmaids all turning up in nightdresses.

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:41

bridesmaid dresses are all bloody satin right now

Sorry OP, but another who doesn’t like either. I personally think gone are the days of having bridesmaids in one style of dress - women’s bodies are too different. The fabric of both would show every lump, bump and bit of cellulite. I didn’t have bridesmaids but if I did I’d give them a colour ‘palette’ and say pick your own style you feel great in, in one of these colours/shades.

all the bridesmaids have faked tanned at one point or another. I recognise my preferred colours won’t necessarily suit very pale skin

The @Froum has resolutely not answered whether she’s asked them 🤷🏼‍♀️

FleurDeFleur · 09/04/2025 22:42

Absolutely not. It looks terrible on both models.
As pp have said it looks cheap, like lingerie.
Find something with better fabric.

Octoberdreaming · 09/04/2025 22:42

It’s hideous

Dogaredabomb · 09/04/2025 22:43

Maybe you need to take a break and ask your bridesmaids for suggestions? You should rest.

murasaki · 09/04/2025 22:43

Asking your bridesmaids to 'brown up' to match others is questionable at best. Surely you love them as they are or you wouldn't have asked them.

Ponderingwindow · 09/04/2025 22:43

Dear mumsnet

im a size 10, I’m not huge, but like many women I have insecurities about various spots on my body. My dear friend is getting married soon and I am so excited to be a bridesmaid, except for one thing. Every bridesmaid dress she is considering has unyielding fabric pulled firmly around the female form. Doesn’t she realize that those kind of dresses are hit and miss and you have to find just the perfect one for you? Even with spanx, I’m going to feel like a stuffed sausage all day and night. Plus, I was looking forward to partying. Instead I’m going to be stuffing myself into the tightest foundation garments I can find and be ready to call it a night as soon as I can make an excuse to get out of them.

I love my friend, and I don’t want to hurt her feelings, but I really don’t want to be uncomfortable all day. What do I do?

Looks like a nightie.

Nope- too skimpy and just not a nice shape, colour or fabric.

You can't tell anyone to fake tan, who do you actually think you are??
Your 'scheme' is the problem, that and the fact you appear to be fixated on a fabric that is unflattering to anyone over a size 6 🙄
