Is this unflattering for a bridesmaid?

Froum · 09/04/2025 22:02

My bridesmaids range in size from 8 to 12. No one happens to be plus size.

Would this dress flatter most of the women do you reckon?

We are late 20s

i have chosen to show the image of the plus size model as I think it highlights that it works on bigger sizes. What do you think?

@ZenNudist I did think that the dress was faulty because the seams looked asymmetrical. Something about it looked off, but your post makes perfect sense 😅.

Wellretired · 11/04/2025 15:42

Have you thought about choosing the material and then getting the dresses made. In different styles so each bridesmaid can choose what looks good on them? This can look really good. Given the prices of these kind of dresses it won't be much more expensive, if it's dearer at all.

How about some of these:

Rednotdead · 11/04/2025 16:03

Sorry, no. I’ve got satin nighties like this.

Upsidedownsides · 11/04/2025 17:36

It horrible. I’d be deeply embarrassed to be seen in that

Namechange1345677 · 11/04/2025 17:39

Terrible dress. Looks bad at the bust on both.

StartAnew · 11/04/2025 17:43

Sorry OP but all your choices are terrible. They look like cheap nighties even in these photos, on professional models and professionally photographed. Can you ask your bridesmaids to get together and come up with a suggestion they are all happy with? If you can't find anything in this dusky colour you like, there must be a neutral colour that would work, surely.

Mary46 · 11/04/2025 17:43

Awful. Would suit a really slim person. Would hate to wear it sorry.

Poppyseeds79 · 11/04/2025 17:53

Froum · 11/04/2025 14:50

Some people are very easily triggered by a dress, aren’t they?

No, I don't think so? You asked for opinions on the dresses. Pretty much universally everyone said they aren't nice.

You're then claiming we're "trigged"... Nobody is trigged by it. We all just said the dresses don't look good 😅

Adding... And it's obviously your wedding, your choice. If YOU like them. Then you don't need our opinions.

BasiliskStare · 11/04/2025 18:00

@Froum I like the cicina one @StrangerThings1 posted (the first one. ) I think that looks quite elegant.

SmallBox · 11/04/2025 18:02

This style only looks good with well-made silk dresses that have been fitted to the wearer. These look awful; very cheap and badly made. Your bridesmaids may well be slim and young but they're not going to look good.

That’s how ugly it is, pal.

Wellretired · 11/04/2025 18:50

I thought the first one looked quite good - I liked the shape and the neckline.

ARainyNightInSoho · 11/04/2025 18:57

What an awful thread! I've been on MN for 18 years and I can't remember any other one quite as bad. Nobody is actually reading it, they are just looking at the first post and then adding their comments. Post after post after post criticising the dress. 22 pages of people saying the same thing over and over again. Satin, nightie, unflattering blah blah blah. RTFT! It's not a nice dress but nobody needs to read yet another post saying it looks like a nightie! And anyway, satin nighties 90s style are really in atm.

Also, OP took on board the negative comments quite quickly and posted alternatives and hardly anyone responded to them. AND OP hasn't really bothered to comment on the suggestions other posters have given. It's a total thread of non communication. Just lots of people giving sneery opinions.

  1. Read the thread before posting!
  2. Respond to what people have actually posted!
  3. (for the OP) give your opinion about people's suggestions. They have gone to the effort of searching for things for you. All you have done is imply they are all old frumps
Marsyoungersister · 11/04/2025 19:05

You need to go for something more structured OP.

Unless your bridesmaids look like Pippa Middleton these will show every lump, bump and VPL.
They also need a decent tan, as otherwise that colour will make them all look like they've been exhumed.

SherlockHolmes · 11/04/2025 19:07

It looks awful on the plus size model and almost as bad on the other one. Why on earth would you pick something that looks so cheap and unflattering?

ARainyNightInSoho · 11/04/2025 19:10

We're all just wittering into a void

I take your feedback, thanks. But I feel Iike people are intentionally posting styles I have specifically said I don’t like. Almost as an intentional wind up. I liked one suggestion and expressed so.

Thanks for the response OP. I hope you find what you are looking for.

This thread is a good example of why so many people say they are lonely now. Everyone wants to spout off instead of reading, listening and responding.

Newtrix · 11/04/2025 19:37

That's horrendously ugly.

TeaIsNice · 11/04/2025 20:03

yuk

Thank you.

Good example of lack of manners and basic civility even for a very trivial non issue
