What would you HONESTLY do in this situation?

Say you ordered a few items from a big online shop (clothing), then successfully cancelled the order, and was refunded.

A few days later, you ordered a single item of clothing from the same place. Today that item was delivered, however they had also sent the items you had cancelled and was refunded for (probably around £120 worth of stuff).

Would you contact them about it or would you keep quiet, see if they emailed you about it and if you didn’t hear anything say 3-4 weeks down the line, just keep the items as normal? This is a place you regularly order from, spending between £300-400 a month.

What would you HONESTLY do?

I don’t shop fast fashion. The company is very ethical and only uses organic cotton etc.

It’s not very ethical if you buy enough for more than one person though is it, unless you are passing it on to family and friends every couple of months.

I agree except that I'm not gobsmacked. The site has loads of thieves, liars and people who seem to have no moral code at all.

This doesn’t read entirely pleasantly.

No, it doesn't does it ? It's a shame there are so many people with dodgy morals.

It's not meant to read pleasantly. It's a fact that there are significant numbers of posters who lie a lot and seem to have no worries about taking things that don't belong to them.

stretchitout · 09/04/2025 20:42

Well, I wouldn’t do it myself but I’m not sure I appreciate those posts basically slagging off everyone on the site and accusing them of all sorts.

It is one thing to have strong morals but you don’t get to tell other people what theirs should be.

Coolasfeck · 09/04/2025 20:42

Similar happened to DM but it was a washing machine. Was honest and contacted Curry’s twice but they said the transaction wasn’t recorded and because it was not in the system they couldn’t take it back so she got it free.

Icanttakethisanymore · 09/04/2025 20:46

If I was happy to pay for them (ie. if they 'realised' and charge me) then I'd do nothing and see what happens. If I definitely didn't want to pay for them I'd send them back.

They have the same style of clothing, just in different colours and patterns, so once you know your size you know your size. I’ve liked every piece of clothing I’ve got from them

yup I buy at Seasalt. I know my size and never send anything back.

And then think it's hilarious to mock posters who would return the goods.

The company probably make the clothes for a pittance and sell it to you for a fortune. Unless it was a small independent business I wouldn’t say anything.

Like the way scorn and derision was poured upon posters as a whole, you mean?

StMarie4me · 09/04/2025 20:56

I would be honest. I don’t believe Karma gets bad people- I believe that Karma waits around for good people to fuck up!

They turn over 32 million pound a year…

That’s not a big business, that’s an SME. Turnover also tells you nothing about profit or cash flow or financial strength of the company.

People like you are precisely why prices are going up and small businesses are going under. You should be ashamed of yourself

I'm not ashamed at all , but cheers 🤣

Scorn wasn't poured on posters "as a whole"- unless of course you're referring to the posts by Screwyoutwat,
Growlybear83, AquaPeer singlewhitetrashheap, Moominmai
calling other posters liars, pearl clutchers, idiots, jealous and other insults,

Special mention for tiddletiddleboomboom's "hilarious" effort

CoffeeFluff · 09/04/2025 21:32

This happened to me. With an £800 Emma mattress. I kept it and gave it to a family member. Shoot me!

NippyNinjaCrab · 09/04/2025 21:32

AquaPeer · 09/04/2025 17:42

I did that too! Also at a co-op. What a coincidence

How weird!! This happened to us at the weekend there, at the Co Op, also a £10 and we handed it in. Maybe it's a co op test it's customers honesty 😂

Notashamed13 · 09/04/2025 21:35

Not rtft but I'd keep them..... you wanted honesty......

This is not true, it is not why businesses are going under at all!! I've always kept stuff if someone made a mistake, thought everyone did 🤷‍♀️ I've asked around in my office today everyone else said they "keep the stuff!" I am not convinced all the pearl clutches on this thread are really telling the truth to be honest.

It's like when you find money on the street... 🤷‍♀️

Don't judge every one by your own low standards.

[I'm so sick of "pearl clutcher"-if you're going to be insulting try not being so lazy and lacking in imagination]

SunshineOmbreRainbow · 09/04/2025 23:53

I’d keep them purely based on cost of living crisis and many of these companies do tax avoidance. Where is their moral compass when they try to get out of paying tax and treating employees like slaves?

SunshineOmbreRainbow · 09/04/2025 23:55

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 09/04/2025 20:22

I can't believe you even had to ask OP. It wouldn't occur to me not to let them know. I was sent a duplicate of a silk scarf I'd ordered. I posted it back by recorded delivery, postage was refunded and I've got 10% of my next order.

Wow, 10% - they pulled out all the stops!

I'm tempted to ask where is your moral compass if you think it's ok to keep things simply because a) prices in general have gone up and b) some but by no means all companies treat their employees badly and/or use perfectly legal means to minimise their tax liabilities. How does that give you any entitlement to something that's not yours? By all means keep it if you want but don't pretend that's a moral stance.
