Gave Granddaughter's Mum £250 towards her 3rd birthday party

She couldn't decide which nursery friends to invite. Whether it would be 360 or local Wacky.

I gave her £250 towards either.

She's going to Sea-Life Centre with her Mum.

So, not only no party. No invite either.

I'm a bit pissed off to be honest.

The devil is in the detail

and this woman, who is working and raising a child with an unemployed pathetically contributing ex (the OP’s DS) - is treating her toddler to a day out and no doubt need the rest of the money to pay bills

give it a break and also read the thread - she isn’t working!!!

I've already said she isn't working, which you've said the opposite on a few following. In fact you've made up your own entire narrative regarding my DGs life.

Of which you know nothing.

Which is why I'll not share our conversation from last night because you have an agenda.

Why do you have an agenda?

You’re incorrect there actually. I specifically said in my post that she isn’t working, based on what you’ve said. ‘… and isn’t working herself, she’s probably pretty skint’ is a direct quote, in fact.
I’ve made up no narrative at all, just gone on the information you’ve given and the tone you’re posting in! No narrative, no agenda.

TheBuffetInspector · 09/04/2025 07:37

Not that anyone deserves this information, but my son was made homeless when they split. It's been very hard on his health losing his home, his partner and his daughter.

It's not been the easiest of times for any of us.

That's life though. We can only do our best in our current situations.

I'm not lovely though as I just messaged saying "I hope some of that 250 went on GD".

Not very mature. She's early 20s lip fillers, eyebrows...

Looks like me and GDs Dad will be taking her to the park for a picnic!

If you don't get money back then next time you want to treat GD do something with her with your son. Don't pass money to a person who might waste money on lip fillers etc.

It feels false pretentices since died implied she was going to invite nursery friends and sent links to options. Very deceitful.

I'm sorry, I got mixed up with the other ID that appeared at the same time.

Many of us would have torn her a new one for doing that. She’s a frauds

Well I'm not proud of that but we have spoken now, albeit accidentally as I meant to message my Mum. D'oh!

I love how you're lapping it up when everyone is on your side but when it comes to highlighting that your son is an unemployed loser who pays £84 a month for his child you're bored now.

By that logic, isn’t the child’s mum also an unemployed loser?

Remember none of this is OP’s fault.

MyTattooIsBetterThanYours · 09/04/2025 07:43

Why don’t you go to Sea Life at the same time and accidentally bump into them?

Sameoldsameoldsame · 09/04/2025 07:43

Pickedupsomethingsuss · 09/04/2025 07:26

You said she went over the free childcare last month

so not working but went over free childcare?

Non working get free childcare too. Maybe she turned up late for pick.up then they charge. Op said she wasn't working.

Hdjdb42 · 09/04/2025 07:44

That's really bad. She lied to get that money. All you can do is, never give her money again.

Child's mother is also then an 'unemployed loser'

If you are going to use such charming terms.

What would be my excuse for being there?

Well she's the 23 year old that knows it all and her Mum hates my son 🙄 so yes, it's always been slightly fraught. They seperated early on, but my side of the family have always been there.

Kids having kids 🙄. Seen it before but MUCH MUCH worse! Drive me mad 😡

so sorry this has happened OP, might only be £250 (my close relatives spent best part of £40,000 fighting for access with and for their adult son when he had a baby with a (troublesome) teenager) but I appreciate, it still sticks in the craw!

It's there smiley faces! Actually, I do quite like them. Not enough for a random trip though 🤣 That did make me chuckle thank you.

I'm just going to catch up on MAFS if that's okay with everyone?

So gd her mother and her other nan went to the sea life centre for gd's birthday treat?
It's a shame yoy weren't invited, but if you gave the money so your gs could have a birthday treat then you've suceeded Sending that message won't help your relationship with her mother.

How nasty. OP has just as much right to be here as anyone.

When I’m working with 3 and 4 year olds on phonics and helping them to learn to write, im always very aware of the different advantages and disadvantages they have.

This thread has reminded me of this.

Thinking of spending £250 on a party the child won’t remember when it sounds like they have very little. It’s just so sad that children grow up like this.

Dodappydah · 09/04/2025 07:57

It sounds like the mum has used for money to give her daughter a nice day out and memory, it's only £250 really not the end of the world and life is too short so just move on.

moveoveralice · 09/04/2025 07:58

So neither of these 20 somethings are working. I assume they are healthy and capable. It is a grim show really and if things don't change significantly, the cycle will repeat and the little girl will be brought up by parents on benefits and therefore, poor and limited, with a very narrow life experience.

Given the numbers mentioned here, it is no wonder she pocketed the 250. It wasn't right and she clearly has skewed priorities being on benefits with a child, yet avails herself to frivolities like lip fillers etc. But she will be struggling to make ends meet I imagine.

Sounds like a shit show all around. I feel sorry for the 3 year old.

Am doing thanks to last night's accidental text. It is what it is.

I would have loved to see her haring round with her nursery mates, but I'll have to make do with haring round after me 🤣

It’s shit that she took the money and the majority will go on her and not her daughter. However, 23 isn’t a young mum. She sounds selfish and fake, but that’s nothing to do with age.

Objectively, 23 is a young mum. Average age of first time mums in UK is nearly 30
