Gave Granddaughter's Mum £250 towards her 3rd birthday party

She couldn't decide which nursery friends to invite. Whether it would be 360 or local Wacky.

I gave her £250 towards either.

She's going to Sea-Life Centre with her Mum.

So, not only no party. No invite either.

I'm a bit pissed off to be honest.

That’s barely a week’s food shop! Poor woman, how can anyone think £84 a month is an appropriate contribution from a father?

When you factor in this child IS NOT from a 2 income household that's stayed together & will likely only ever access public services like hospitals/state school/social services id say £84 a month at 3 years old is better then most

(That's not to say it's a great life or that every child deserves to live 'like that' but realistically the moneys not for a week's food shop it's for half the cost of toddler sized meals+ clothing - if the mother chooses to have the child with her full time then presumably she will already be housing herself or having family support her as their child as well as qualify for benefits/charity)

(all in all I think its obviously that lots of children live differently & with different means even in traditional family's let alone single parents)

The fact that she's nicked £250 from her child grandma for a non existent party is a completely seperate problem

Keep trying? To do what exactly? Give a view on a situation you asked for opinions on?
No idea how this post is even relevant to mine, other than to reinforce the view that you’re a prickly character. You can speak with someone as often as you like and still hold them in contempt, as I am sure you’re well aware.

I've already said she isn't working, which you've said the opposite on a few following. In fact you've made up your own entire narrative regarding my DGs life.

Of which you know nothing.

Which is why I'll not share our conversation from last night because you have an agenda.

Why do you have an agenda?

i think the op is prickly because now we know her son is unemployed and contributes a meagre £84 (from his benefits do not really from him I’d argue) month towards raising his child (meanwhile the mum is in employment) which puts a somewhat different stance on the fact this mum decided to go for a cheaper day and probably use the extra to pay rent! .

Oh what a bloody reach

Baconmaple · 09/04/2025 07:25

@pickedupsomethingsuss you've made your point multiple times now. It just feels like bullying now.

Did all the puppets get up together this morning? How about you Iggle? You too Makka? And you Upsy. Silly sausages.

No op

just all a bit sickened at the idea of a 28 year old man on benefits contributing £84 a month from his benefits towards raising his child

meanwhile mother of said child IS working

and you’re “almost crying” about fact she has chosen not to blow £250 on a party but instead cheaper day and no doubt rest towards bills

I doubt there’s any rent to pay as she’s unemployed too. It will all be covered by the taxpayer.

You said she went over the free childcare last month

so not working but went over free childcare?

She’s a single mother to a 3 year old so more understandable not working

how come your 28 year old DS is also reliant on benefits and unemployed?

OP has clearly said the mum isn’t working either. You can still get childcare hours if you’re not working.

well I hope he’s got a back up plan for tighter regs around benefits and working expectations

How is any of that relevant to the OP giving money for a party that never happened?

Or she could be spending it on lip fillers and eyebrows. We don’t know.

But you seem to have contempt for OP when none of this is her fault.

TheBuffetInspector · 09/04/2025 07:31

Bored now.

Thank you all.

Like I said upthread, I did speak to her last night after my text. We're fine. I can't wait to see DG on Friday!

I'm actually quite tempted with the drum kit for my house 😂🥁

Because she probably went for a cheaper day
and then the left over towards the costs of raising her child

OP you gave the mother of your granddaughter less than two months cost of weight loss injections… think of it like that perhaps

Reading with fascination. You've been told repeatedly that the mother of said child is not working. Yet you ramble on about her working, on numerous posts, working so hard she's going over the free hours 😂

Does she even have her child all the time, do they have a 50/50 arrangement?

We can ask why she isn't working just as readily as you ask why the child's father isn't working

And yes mothers are responsible for housing and providing for their children just as much as fathers

I have contempt for her unemployed 28 year old son contributing a pathetic £84 (from his benefits so really the tax payer) towards his child
