Paedophile taking his kid to sports at weekend

Pumpkin05 · 06/04/2025 01:03

Long story short information has come to light someone I know was convicted and imprisoned for paedophile charges, some 20 years ago (Information is verifiable)
Flash forward he now has a wife and young child and takes said child to sports clubs and matches at the weekend.
AIBU to think this is strange, and not want my child to attend said sports matches with him there? or am I over-reacting?

He’s done his time.

So have the children he abused but they aren’t free.

Its surprising how many people don’t care about the victims, on of our teachers groomed a pupil and became pregnant, her mum complained that the child she groomed had ruined her daughters life rather than considering himself lucky. I bet she wouldn’t have considered her daughter lucky if she had been groomed from 13 and raped at 14.

I thought child sex offenders weren’t allowed to be within a certain distance of schools and places where kids will likely be, for life? If that’s not true I’m surprised - particularly if this one has actually been convicted bc he’d be on the sex offenders register

I don't think there was a formal sexual offenders register 20 years ago. Many are only put on the register now for x years, then it's wiped off.

There was. They were known then as schedule 1 offenders.

fiveIsNewOne · 06/04/2025 11:09

Majority of people abusing minors don't really have paedophilic paraphilia, they just don't care that much and find minors to be easier victims.

All we really know is that he was convicted of a crime of sexual nature against a minor.

If he harmed several young children, I'd be concerned.

If he at 18 overstepped with 13-14 yo, it would show serious lack of judgement, but not a huge lifelong risk for children

Yes theres lots of detail in this area of work that most people dont understand.

Not all CSA's are paedophiles and not all paedophiles are CSA's

Its why using that word to describe the criminality is incorrect and inaccurate and tells you nothing about whats happened or the level of risk

Christ calm down. Most paedophiles don't go round with a sticker on their head. How do you know Little Jimmys Grandad who has come to watch isn't one?

How wonderfully apt is your username? Well done. Saved me the effort ;)

What does it mean though that all these paedophiles are in relationships and having sex with adult women? Your saying it's their sexual attraction to be attracted to kids. So how are they also able to have sex with grown women? I dont think many straight men could also have gay relationships for example. It does seem paedophilia is something different- an evil mind.

Edited

Huh? Many gay men have sex with women. Haven’t you read all the posts and articles about women discovering their dh is gay?

And it’s not evil. It’s SICK. It’s evil if they act upon it.

Ok sick evil whatever! Another poster replied to me a while back to say paedophilia is not a sexuality. I would agree with that. Like if you want to sexually abuse animals, I dont think that's a sexuality either.

Honestly, I'm still trying to get my head around the "done his time" comment.
There's certain acts that damn you for life imo. There's no time you can serve, nothing that can undo what you've done.

I honestly wish we could just get rid of them from society. They always reoffend.

Bollocks. You cannot seriously believe 'they always reoffend'.
They (whoever 'they' are) definitely do not always reoffend. And in fact the vast majority of paedophiles never offend at all.

Yes but we can't so all of the strident posturing is just that. This creep has 'done his time' in the eyes of the law. Most of the lawmakers in the UK are men. We would possibly have a different judiciary and outcome if they were not.

I completely agree that there is no rehabilitation for men that are interested in pre-pubescent children. I was accosted many times in school uniform by creepy men. I think they are paedophiles but others might disagree. There does seem to be a 'line' that people think is 'ok'. For me there isn't but then again, we don't catch more than a percentage of these creepy twats so we just have to accept that they are all around us and will continue to present a threat.

Bollocks to you. The OP is taking about a child sex offender, who has commited a crime serious enough to be jailed, in a country where sentences are derisory.
Of course they will fucking reoffend, take the blinkers off.

I agree, someone who is sexually attracted to minors can't just switch that off. Sure some may well not go on to re-offend (or be caught at least...) but they don't stop ceasing being paedos who are thus inclined. I always wonder why some women choose to be with men who have been convicted of this, scarily I bet lots believe the same fairytale as you do.

You sound like a paedophile.

Justgoodforthegetting · 06/04/2025 06:39

Just playing devils advocate here OP but how much of the circumstances of his offending are you actually aware of?

people may disagree with me but I’d argue that an 18 year old having sexual contact with his 15 year old girlfriend then this being reported to police is very different from the same 18 year old grooming them raping or sexually assaulting their 6 year old cousin.

Both are criminal offences, both would lead to the male in question being on the sex offenders register for offences against children.
I’d argue that these two men would present wildly different risks to very young children.

If he is still on the register then he may be subject to certain conditions.
ultimately though, there are genuinely paedophiles absolutely everywhere in society, your children will come into contact with many. Just make sure you safeguard them.

Thanks, I know what you mean and I will. Sorry just for context but keeping it vague... He was in his 20’s and was convicted of possession, making and distributing.

Then fuck him. He deserves to be tormented every day for the rest of his life. I hope it comes out that he is a beast and he never sleeps another night again. No mercy for him or his (clearly) unhinged wife.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 06/04/2025 18:53

The mother of the child needs to do the drop offs etc. I'd be tempted to raise it with the police.

Not to minimise at all but possession, making and distributing images is a non-contact offence. It demonstrates a sexual interest in children but it would be a big step to say there was an imminent risk of a contact offence.

I'm amazed at some of these relaxed responses. I wouldn't be happy about this at all. I don't know what you can do about it.

I agree.
Anyone who would trust someone that fancies children and babies and wants to rape them must have something seriously wrong with them.
