Paedophile taking his kid to sports at weekend

Pumpkin05 · 06/04/2025 01:03

Long story short information has come to light someone I know was convicted and imprisoned for paedophile charges, some 20 years ago (Information is verifiable)
Flash forward he now has a wife and young child and takes said child to sports clubs and matches at the weekend.
AIBU to think this is strange, and not want my child to attend said sports matches with him there? or am I over-reacting?

I would make sure everyone bloody knew about him. He shouldn't be involved in any activities involving children at all. He won't have gone off them. Sarah's Law means you are legally allowed to know when a paedophile is in your area. I would encourage everyone at the sports club to invoke it.

How do you invoke it?

LittleCharlotte · 11/04/2025 22:06

He didn't wind up in jail for that. If that's what he told you, he's lying.

No I assure you he did, this wasnt a story he told me. Most of it came from the girl herself, the extended family etc. the mother was on a rampage, very influential, very wealthy and the guy was not.

I can't get on board with black & white thinking, it's wrong IMO to damn someone forever no matter what they've done or not done. It's all just speculation on a forum, why decide anything about what should or shouldn't happen?

Authorities are very likely to know already including the school, unless there's independent current evidence that something isn't right it might just be gossip or worse. And it seems like the op is going to be letting her thoughts known anyway, it'll go nowhere because the authorities will already know & have already decided that he's safe (or he wouldn't be able to live with a child or be near a school).

He wouldn't have been jailed had it not been bad. Very few paedophiles get jail sentences, sadly. I'm totally going to damn a paedophile forever. It's not like theft or antisocial behaviour.

I believe via the police or your local authority.

GoodCharl · 12/04/2025 10:02

Once a paedo always a paedo. I hope the child is safe. If its public knowledge, no harm in sharing the info with others

LittleCharlotte · 12/04/2025 10:04

Nextdoor55 · 12/04/2025 07:37

That's really naive, of course people get prosecuted for things like that, depends where they are, in America they get hefty prison sentences. In the UK it's still illegal.
Why assume that people are either lying or being unreasonable? Perhaps it's you.

It's illegal yes and I didn't say you couldn't get prosecuted for it, but in the UK at least you don't get jailed for it. The naivete comes from taking what is said by people (generic) as fact. I've seen so many times people quoting headlines or snippets from news articles which bear absolutely no relation to what actually happened, that I tend to assume everything is a misrepresentation of the truth until I see the court transcript. I've also had this happen to me where I've staunchly defended someone who was very very circumspect with the truth so I've learned the hard way about these cases simply not being as presented by the teller!

Her wealth wouldn't have made a difference to the sentence the guy got, assuming it's in the UK anyway.

I’m not the sort of person to gossip, which is why I’ve come to a faceless forum rather than going straight to the local WhatsApp or Facebook group. I told a couple of very close family members when I first found out and asked their opinions on it, which I was told “he’s done his time etc etc” which surprised me. Which I think then brought me here to try and find out some other opinions.

Edited

Op you’ve not answered the question on what exactly the offence was, or whether you have seen proof. I think the answers to both of those questions are key here

She has, earlier in the thread.

Ah apologies to them, you’re correct she noted the offence. My fault.

I can’t find her saying she’s seen proof though

TheWisePlumDuck · 12/04/2025 11:16

I'd make sure the details of what he did were spread around the entire club.

Pedophiles are calculating repugnant creatures that have never been shown to truly change, he will always want to rape children. I wouldn't be surprised if that is exactly why he accompanies his child to this sport.

Unfortunately the law doesn't protect you or your children, so the best you can do is stay very vigilant over your own dc, and make sure anyone who comes into contact with him knows exactly what he is.

TheWisePlumDuck · 12/04/2025 11:23

SmoothEncounter · 11/04/2025 13:42

Why are you being so nasty to the OP? She has asked for opinions, as she has concerns, quite rightly, and there is no indication she’s a village gossip.

People usually respond like this to an op when they feel personally attacked don't they.

How very... telling.

NC28 · 12/04/2025 13:28

OP clarified a while ago that it was a conviction for making, possessing and distributing CSA material. So there’s no debate to be had as to if he was 17 and had sex with a 15 year old or something.

Indeed - like recovered addicts steer clear from their drug of choice, if he were remorseful he wouldn't go near children but here he is actively seeking them out.

WearyAuldWumman · 12/04/2025 14:01

Just to add: the predator that I mentioned previously used to refer to his "daughters". They weren't. They were his partner's.

There's no guarantee that the predator in the OP is genuinely the father of the child. (Yes, a bio child would also be at risk, but that type of person is notorious for seeking out vulnerable/naive women.)

Pessismistic · 12/04/2025 14:14

Pumpkin05 · 08/04/2025 11:26

I trusted the person who told me, but also a quick google search confirmed the details.

I don’t know if the club know, but as others have said, hopefully they have the appropriate checks/safeguarding measures in place if he ever tries to get more involved than just watching from the sidelines.

Hey op I hope you have informed the club and parents and if you can the poor women whose with him. There would be nothing worse than hearing he’s done it again to someone in your community and you didn’t tell anyone. It’s not gossip it’s fact that could prevent it happening again. No one ever gets over abuse. Especially a child.

She did yes

shes not clarified if she’s seen proof or if this is a rumour. She said it was “verifiable”, not that it had been verified by her

I’ve just seen the post that said she google searched. I’ll shut up now as my usual RTFT skills appear to have deserted me today…

In America a 18 year old got 60 years for a 14 year old. Was mutual, no rape as such (in law of course it is but he didn't force himself) yeah 60 years.
It's quite possible

This is still a crime - 14yo are children who are unable to consent, 18yo are not

I know the law, but I'm saying that 60 years, at 17 seems excessive.

Better than the electric chair and better than he deserves. Hate the trend towards decriminalisation of rape in the UK. Bring back the electric chair. Men need to start treating us like the queens that we are not a set of orifices for them to take advantage of - particularly minors should be protected from this vile shite.

Do you have a link to this case? I'm trying to find one but all I can find is murder charges (unsurprisingly).

They cannot be rehabilitated. They can make recompense for their offences (if any have been committed, plenty don’t offend) and appear contrite and live a life with no further offending but at the end of the day it is their sexual orientation and nothing can change that.
It’s why a certain section of paedophiles think that they have nothing to be ashamed of and that “paedophilia” should be considered a protected characteristic alongside sexual orientation. I don’t agree by the way.

A paedophile can no more be rehabilitated than the sexual orientation of any individual can be changed at will because they’re told so.

That is (potentially) what future life looks like.
Bills to make child sex 'a sexual orientation", another one for the ever growing LGBT label.
Not one LGBT person I know wants that attached to them because they're gay/trans, not child abusers.

It's disgusting and outrageous and wrong and should never be allowed to happen.

I remember reading a while back about individuals trying to promote 'Alice Day' and the sexual orientation of Minor Attracted Persons (MAP) and Youth Attracted Persons (YAP) and I'm sure I read that Elon Musk got rid of that pedophile promoting account. Knocks me sick.
