Washing at night!

Controversial I know but is hanging your washing out at night a really bad thing?

I know I know, Spider Penises and Bugs etc but don’t these things also happen during the day?

We are a Family with small people with lots of washing and our tumble drier has recently broken down, plus cost of living and all that plus the sunshine early morning.

Husband is horrified i’ve hung some washing out on the line and also hung two clothes horses worth of clothes under our canopy this evening.

I just want to get the washing done!

Surely it’s not just me!?

My previous neighbour used to match the colour of the clothes pegs to the items on the line. Blue for jeans, etc. I always wondered how anyone could be so anal!

A fox stole a shoe left out in the garden the other day!! In broad daylight with us watching 👀

Just one shoe? Bizarre.

Yeah where I live it's seen as a lazy thing to do.

But who the hell cares what other people think? Are they living your life? Understanding your struggles? No.

They can think its lazy if they want to, doesnt mean that it is actually lazy. Doing household chores in a way that works for everyone in the house isnt lazy at all.

Being post 50 and post menopause has many downsides but the gift of "I dont give a fuck what you think" is amazing compensation, its so freeing! I am just sad that I didnt learn how to NGAF 30 years ago.

But bats are cool!

Bats are cool, but they still have willies (at least 50% of the population do).

I suppose we should be thankful that no one has mentioned ducks going near their washing. Now those willies will errr, give you the willies.

jen337 · 05/04/2025 01:30

Oh god, not this cringe again.

It will get darked on 😱😱😱

I thought this too. Op is being very risky here. I hope the washing will be okay 😂😂

And you read it and replied because.....?

k1233 · 05/04/2025 02:14

Where I live we get quite heavy dew overnight in summer so your washing gets a funky smell if out overnight.

Oh, I forgot the bats! Batshit is a major issue in my back yard. One nearly flew into me when I was getting home the other night.

Spider Penises is your new band name.

CrispieCake · 05/04/2025 02:31

My toddler ate a spider once. Since then, I can't get worked up about the dangers of leaving washing out overnight.

1000DayChallenge · 05/04/2025 02:34

We do it. Sometimes it’s completely dry first thing and I can put another load out.

Tbrh · 05/04/2025 02:34

I always assumed it would be damp in the morning and that's why it's not done

Fromage · 05/04/2025 07:48

EBearhug · 04/04/2025 23:43

Not exactly. The pedipalps do the same thing as a penis does in mammals, as far as sperm goes, so it's almost the same thing.

I should add I am not an expert in arachnid anatomy, but the word pedipalp stuck in my mind when one of these threads caused me to look up whether spiders really do have willies.

MN has much to answer for.

omg

How far does their sperm go?

BelleDeJourRose · 05/04/2025 08:55

I doubt my neighbours would care if I left mine overnight. Luckily I've reached the age where I wouldn't care if they did. I'm lucky mine smells nice and fresh when I get it in and no different than hung up in the morning. I wouldn't like to live somewhere where it would stink if left overnight

Wannabegreenfingers · 05/04/2025 09:00

I always peg mine out at night in the summer. One less job to do before work.

I've a friend who is horrified by this and claims the washing smells weird. Although she's never been able to identify night hung washing to day hung washing 🤣

How do you know do they tell people off? Post it on local Facebook page?

Sounds like you live in an area populated by jumped up Hyacinths, you have my sympathy.

MrsSunshine2b · 04/04/2025 22:15

Like everyone else, I'm only here because I want to know more about the dangers of spider penises.

Me too

Lanzarotelady · 05/04/2025 10:16

No no no no no an no again
Its cold and damp and how can that me good for clean washing?

Mistunza · 05/04/2025 10:20

I thought of you all this morning while hanging out the washing at 9am in my PJs. Statternly, I know. It would have been dry by now if I'd hung it last night.

I always peg out in my pj's, who gets dressed to stand in their garden pegging their washing out?

My mother would judge so hard! I am such a disappointment to her

KimberleyClark · 05/04/2025 10:28

I see no problem with it.
