Washing at night!

Controversial I know but is hanging your washing out at night a really bad thing?

I know I know, Spider Penises and Bugs etc but don’t these things also happen during the day?

We are a Family with small people with lots of washing and our tumble drier has recently broken down, plus cost of living and all that plus the sunshine early morning.

Husband is horrified i’ve hung some washing out on the line and also hung two clothes horses worth of clothes under our canopy this evening.

I just want to get the washing done!

Surely it’s not just me!?

Well i’m pleased to report my washing was nice and dry. Managed to get another two loads out too. Feel like i’m winning today haha

Feel like i’m amongst my own here!

My husband was horrified as i think he thinks the neighbours will be judging me but…I do not care.

Got to get the jobs done when you can!

what will the neighbours say?! 😱

I doubt my neighbours would care if I left mine overnight. Luckily I've reached the age where I wouldn't care if they did. I'm lucky mine smells nice and fresh when I get it in and no different than hung up in the morning. I wouldn't like to live somewhere where it would stink if left overnight

My neighbour is 82 and recently informed me that you’re not supposed to hang your washing out on a Sunday. She might have a heart attack if I left it out overnight.

I'm going to put mine out in a minute. I wear a headtorch to do it!

This made me laugh! Headtorch!! I agree nothing wrong with hanging it out at night or leaving overnight on the line overnight.

My grandmother judged neighbours who hung out on Sundays too. She was a generation above your neighbour though.

If your husband doesn't like how you do the laundry then he can do it or he can ST_U. That's an acronym for a phrase in the US regarding people and their opinions, but it's missing a letter. As the person who does the laundry, you, and you alone, have the final decision with regard to spider penises, night mist, or anything else involving laundry. Usually shaking out your clothes and drying it in the sun solves most problems.

You are perfectly free to post the phrase "Shut the fuck up" on MN.

Of course you can't see any spiders. They're the tiniest baby spiders.
And then you bring them into your home for a party.
Or put them on you or your kids to shudder when you feel the tiniest movement tomorrow.
What if one got into your hair.

Same! I had my neighbour ask one time if I hung my washing out before 6am cos it was out when she woke! She seemed slightly impressed then I told her I do it the night before 😂

Got to agree with this!

Weather is not good in the UK for drying outdoors, so grab the opportunity, I say! I often put mine out the night before, leave for work at silly o’clock, home by late morning, washing dry from the 4/5 hours of sun it’s had.
Sorted!

No problem at all. It gets damp at night a bit but dries again. Does your DH have other OCD/fobias?

That was likely the norm when she was young. I am pretty sure people were not doing laundry on Sunday in the olden days when it took all day to do your laundry.

In parts of Switzerland and Germany, it would be considered a public nuisance. Like mowing your lawn. I don't know if you can actually be fined

Potential Autism traits but at 46 it’s a minefield to navigate.

Keeping on top of things with multiple health issues (me) working and looking after a toddler is also difficult to sort but at least we have dry clothes!! even if that is by 9am with a few bugs for good measure haha
