They do audio books as well.

Thinking about ‘the Gov should change the tax system’ regarding Amazon.
it would be seen unfavourably in the US and they would tax our goods which few though they are would be bad -they are a bigger pop than us so we’d lose more. But individuals here could stop using it with no fall out with the US.

Blinkyy · 05/04/2025 09:34

Anyone can stop their bbc licence.

Reducing consumption would save you more

I’d rather not. If I want something, I buy it

wherearemypastnames · 05/04/2025 09:39

Because you are worth it ?

Boredlass · 05/04/2025 09:39

I love my prime and I’ll never get rid. I also work at Amazon and I love it. Been there nearly 4 years now.

Yabu for using amazon in the first place

Anyone can stop their bbc licence.

You need a licence to watch live TV broadcast on any channel, so if you want to watch ITV as it's broadcast or live sport on Amazon for example then No, you can't as it's not really a bbc licence, it's a live TV licence. If the BBC was subscription then you could choose if you wanted to watch it and pay accordingly.

mondaytosunday · 05/04/2025 11:03

Meh. I enjoy Amazon Prime TV and the free shipping. My BIL works for them and says pay is better than similar job at Waitrose. My sister worked for a subsidiary in the US (Wholefoods are owned by Amazon) because of the healthcare package. I won’t be cancelling.

I'm with you OP

And with a bit of research, we've found alternatives that have actually saved money.

Anyone can stop their bbc licence.

Not if you watch live streaming aka live sport on NowTV

Well did you hear what Trump did this past week?

Eastermuppet · 05/04/2025 11:14

I cancelled mine over a year ago and have noticed that I am buying less online completely so that's a win. A couple of times a year my teen dc manages to sign up for a student trial and if I need anything from amazon, I tend to use it then if needed but since stopping it, I think that I may have used his trial once

Jc2001 · 14/04/2025 10:14

Kendodd · 04/04/2025 08:44

What does that mean ? You think she'll cancel then sign up again?
One problem I've faced is the default gift card seems to be Amazon. A solution, is to donate them to charity.

I have found a few things really hard to find an alternative to, most notably WhatsApp. How does WhatsApp make money anyway? It doesn't carry advertisements that I can see. It must make money somehow?

Selling Data. Same a Google with all the free maps and navigation and all those kind of things.
