That's it.

OP posts:

I have just done a large Prime order as I buy a lot of my groceries from them, I don't like shops with their DIY checkouts

It's a very rare supermarket that doesn't have manned checkouts, which one is that?

Why are people boycotting America?

Are you a new dodger? 😁

Rubyupbeat · 04/04/2025 10:24

Hysterical! I bet you are still using some of the many US companies that trade here.
Amazon also provides thousands of jobs in the UK, plus UK sellers sell through them.
And why post that you are cancelling, who cares.

godmum56 · 04/04/2025 09:50

Well your choice but it saves me a FORTUNE in fuel and parking as well as the annoyance of going from shop to shop to find stuff. I didn't vote because its your choice but because its US owned????? nuts! I am not getting rid of my Mac or iphone either.

Nobody trying to convince you to follow or boycott everything American - it's unrealistic.

But some reflection at personal level on my part for my own consciousness. I can't cancel Amazon Prime, as I don't have the time to go about doing shopping. But I will reflect about what I could do.

There's a wild distinction between "America" and the Bezos/Musk/Trump /Putin cabal that are in charge at the moment.

It's weird that some people don't seem to read the news at all

prawncocktailcrispss · 04/04/2025 10:39

I feel it's really good value if you order a few times a month, and like to watch movies on prime - but if you are not doing this then yes cancel.

Well I dodge the fecking news tbh, can't do anything about it what's the earthly point of getting aerated about it

RedPony1 · 04/04/2025 10:53

I'm all for convenience and i use Amazon weekly, definitely staying a firm fave regardless of where it's from!

Mnetcurious · 04/04/2025 11:01

So many “well I can’t do anything/make a difference” or “well personally I like Amazon so I’ll continue” type of comments. These kind of attitudes are why the planet is doomed and so is society.

Stagshear · 04/04/2025 11:04

I cancel mine until I need to buy something and then set it up again for another month. I find it makes me purchase less as I don’t have free delivery always on, it also means I shop around more, Amazon is rarely the best price nowadays even with free delivery. I probably end up with it for 3 months of the year and watch the TV content then.

LoveDandelions · 04/04/2025 11:05

mydogfarts · 04/04/2025 10:19

Stock markets aside, are you not fussed about the fact there is a fascist government in charge of the USA, propped up by a cartel of billionaires including Musk and Bezos and Putin ?

Yes, I'm fussed.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 04/04/2025 11:21

God I would have spent a fortune on delivery if I cancelled Prime. I use it to buy my toiletries, it's cheaper than hunting around the shops to find where it's on offer. It's currently delivering the cat litter today.

Haven't watched anything on Prime for ages though.

Agree - thread makes no sense😂
In my case I buy everything on Amazon my first go to - total waste of time to schlep around the shops -rarely anything I need that can’t wait till the next day. Luckily I live at the end of a cul de sac and have a garden with a high wall so the delivery derived can just leave parcels on the doorstep safely,

yeah, amazon is fabulous.
we live pretty far from any worthwhile shops so get loads from it.
next day delivery that they just leave at the doorstep if ncessary; no going to the shops/ paying for parking/ wasting hours.
Household would pretty much collapse without it!

I don't read the news at all.
It's very liberating and has improved my life massively

Don't give shiny fuck about the 'planet' or 'society'. I care only about myself and my comfort. Stuff's well priced, delivered next day and the customer service is ace (as I find Amazon's to be) - sign me up.

it makes no sense anyway.
I only buy stuff I needed anyway ( cat food, light bulbs etc.) .
I'm not driving my car into a town centre so will be saving a few polar bears there.
I don't get the problem/

Thanks for perfectly proving my point.

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 04/04/2025 11:35

I quit using Amazon altogether years ago after learning how Bezos treats his staff, plus I felt icky with the impact my purchasing power, however small, was having on the environment.

Thanks for perfectly proving my point.

could you explain how using amazon prime is bad for the planet?

Chungai · 04/04/2025 11:36

YANBU.

I have a rule about not using Amazon unless there's no way to avoid it anyway. Bezos doesn't need my money.

Most of what people buy on Amazon they don't need. Just buy less shite.

Again, where does this come from?
Do you have stats that back this up as everyone I know uses it for esentials

why does using amazon prime mean the planet is doomed?

I said it’s the attitudes ie, “I can’t make a difference” or “well it suits me so I’ll continue”. It’s not about Amazon prime!

Then you're the problem.

Imagine living in a society full of people like you. It would collapse instantly.

Funnily enough I think that what might be happening globally. More people who care only about themselves and don't realise we need to support each other to have a functioning humanity.
