Keir Starmer ignoring Mother's Day

AIBU to think it's a bit of a glaring omission?

Nothing on Twix today except something about Ramadan, and an RT about Myanmar.

Lots of upset on there about him ignoring Lent too.

It's probably too late to expect anything now.

What's his objective here? It feels so... deliberate. And bizarre.

Fully expecting some to accuse me of dog whistling. But I'd still be interested in why they think he's done it.

He doesn't need to mention Mother's day however he should certainly not mention Eid. We are a christian country. He will never mention any other bloody religion will he. He is a disgrace and I think he is trolling us.

So much to unpick here. Why is he a disgrace for sending a message of goodwill to the millions of British citizens that celebrate Eid? What exactly is disgraceful about this? What do you mean he will never mebtion any other religion? Thats complete nonsense. He sends messages about all major religious festivals and no doubt will send Easter and Christmas messages.
We're a Christian country? Yes, but do you go to church? How many people are actually practising Christians here? I know very few.
Also isn't a key part of Christianity the ethos of good will and the message of "love thy neighbour". Those going on about the UK being a Christian country are behaving in a very un-Christian way.

I can't imagine even being bothered enough to look, tbh.

I've certainly wished a lot of people a (premature) Eid Mubarak over the past few days. I haven't wished anyone Happy Mothers Day!

I saw a few local businesses posting Eid Mubarak posts over the last few days. All of them had a "I bet you won't say Happy Easter!" responses. It happens every year. And, yes, they will, just like they post Happy Diwali and Merry Christmas etc at the appropriate time too.

Of course they do! Heaven forfend people try to be a bit friendly and inclusive.

Presented without comment as there is nothing comment worthy about that post I assume?

First of all that's completely untrue. He always acknowledges the major Christian festivals. Secondly, you sound nasty and ignorant. Thirdly, you know Christianity emanated from the middle east right?

IsoldeWagner · 31/03/2025 08:15

So? He posted a Father's Day message?
What's the problem?

IsoldeWagner · 31/03/2025 08:15

Is this the most serious criticism you have of Keir Starmer? He's doing well then.

TheseCalmSeas · 31/03/2025 08:17

Honestly couldn’t care less whether he calls out a day that now exists for consumerism and isolates groups of people

Hi racist, how's your Brexit going?

MumCanIHaveASnackPlease · 31/03/2025 08:18

Genuinely who has the fucking time to keep tabs on stuff like this. If you have the time to concern yourself with this then your life must be pretty good and in that case why are you pissed off at the government? The rest of us have real problems to worry about.

StartAnew · 31/03/2025 08:19

I would hope his mind is on more important things.

Yep, no comment needed. It's a very nice message. Like the nice message he posted for Mother's Day.

Penguinmouse · 31/03/2025 08:21

What might have happened between Father’s Day last year and now that would mean someone uses their Twitter feed for more strategic comms information? Was it the election? Or maybe he just didn’t want to post something sweet on X given it has become an absolute cesspit.

MananaMananaPenelope · 31/03/2025 08:22

Top of my LinkedIn feed this morning was KS’s message on MD with a photo of his wife and mum.

WhatAPrettyHouse · 31/03/2025 08:24

Of all the things to get upset about right now, with all that's happening in the world?

Get a life OP.

I think your comment should be ' sorry I got this completely wrong'.

You aren't coming accross as the type that apologises though, in fairness.

Thewholeplaceglitters · 30/03/2025 23:16

Why does he need to mention Mother’s Day? None of us are his mum.

And apparently he did post about it on IG.

I agree. Why on earth should he have to mention mothers day. He isn't anybody mother. Honestly. I can see why folk get irritated by this mothers day nonsense.

Why not look yourself instead of baselessly slandering someone then demanding proof that your made-up allegations are indeed living in your own head only?

What 'foreign' traditions has he acknowledged?
