Keir Starmer ignoring Mother's Day

AIBU to think it's a bit of a glaring omission?

Nothing on Twix today except something about Ramadan, and an RT about Myanmar.

Lots of upset on there about him ignoring Lent too.

It's probably too late to expect anything now.

What's his objective here? It feels so... deliberate. And bizarre.

Fully expecting some to accuse me of dog whistling. But I'd still be interested in why they think he's done it.

Have other PMs mentioned Mother’s Day? It wouldn’t cross my mind to expect him to. How odd.

jellyfishperiwinkle · 31/03/2025 07:22

PMs have better things to do than tweet about celebrations invented by card companies. Like spending precious time with their own families.

Am looking for the other thread but at 10am I would definitely have given it a bit longer before wondering (or posting)!

If he's not going to do Twitter properly he should probably leave. What could be the aim of feeding different platforms different content?

What's the point in posting the same things everywhere?
He's appropriately used his personal social media FB and Instagram to talk about the mothers in his life. I don't think that should come from the no 10 twitter account. TBH I'm surprised No 10 still has a twitter account that place is a cesspool these days

@Penguinmouse not on X. There was literally nothing.

We don't all use the same platforms.

Good grief OP. Nutters like you are the reason why most sensible people and companies have given up on X.

Allswellthatendswelll · 31/03/2025 07:30

It seems we are at "but not Halal Easter Eggs" (Google Annual outrage calendar if this won't load)

JassyRadlett · 31/03/2025 07:31

"I was wrong" can be such a tricky phrase, OP.

It's pretty standard to feed different content to different platforms, recognising the differing audiences and systems. Most corporates will have strategies for each platform and be clear on the audiences and content types they'll focus on for different platforms. Just as they seed different stories into different media outlets.

If the platforms you're on aren't giving you the kind of content you want to see, maybe you should rethink where you're getting your information.

Suzuki76 · 31/03/2025 07:32

Oh dear, OP. Egg on your face.

Squirrelblanket · 31/03/2025 07:33

I've read it all now, peak Mother's Day complaining 😂

Ottersmith · 31/03/2025 07:36

I know, and he didn't even bother to send me a card.

lazycats · 31/03/2025 07:39

Imagine giving a shit about this

Ginmonkeyagain · 31/03/2025 07:42

I for one am furious that the PM didn't do a special TikTok dance for all the hard working British mums out there. It's an outrage and I am pretty sure it is a breach of my human rights. Where do I get my compo?

RainingRoses · 31/03/2025 07:45

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 31/03/2025 00:37

OK, thought there may have been more support for mothers day on MUMSnet but I guess I misjudged!

Thanks anyway I guess.

Oh come on OP. You knew exactly what your post was about. The PM made a post about Eid and that had you frothing. The mention of Mother’s Day was just a smokescreen and most of us here could see right through your post.

It was just funny how wrong you were considering he posted about Mother’s Day hours before Eid, so you’ve pretended you care about mums. But we see what you’re doing.

Perplexed20 · 31/03/2025 07:48

So you posted because you thought everyone would agree with you?

Purplecatshopaholic · 31/03/2025 07:49

Oh ffs, why would anyone want the PM, or even his Press team, wittering on about Mother’s Day. Or Lent come to that. I hope they are doing their jobs, frankly, and letting individuals who have Mothers, and/or care about Lent, to deal with those things themselves.

RainingRoses · 31/03/2025 07:49

Ecocool · 31/03/2025 01:09

He doesn't need to mention Mother's day however he should certainly not mention Eid. We are a christian country. He will never mention any other bloody religion will he. He is a disgrace and I think he is trolling us.

He has posted about Christmas and Yom Kippur in the past. I guess your response to that will be he must have been hacked?

What a bizarre thing to even note, let alone think it requires announcing. Mothering Sunday if an event that used to have meaning, but now is a Hallmark, garage-flowers bastardisation of a day.
Why should the PM or indeed, anyonexelse trying to run a bloody country, bother with such trivialities?
Incroyable!

SallyWD · 31/03/2025 07:54

People are frothing at the mouth about this when did actually mention Mother's Day. Let's be honest, the real reason people are angry is because he dared to mention Eid.
Some of the comments I've seen are so depressing. Gebyine rage at the good will Eid message.

GreyCarpet · 31/03/2025 07:55

I can't imagine even being bothered enough to look, tbh.

I've certainly wished a lot of people a (premature) Eid Mubarak over the past few days. I haven't wished anyone Happy Mothers Day!

I saw a few local businesses posting Eid Mubarak posts over the last few days. All of them had a "I bet you won't say Happy Easter!" responses. It happens every year. And, yes, they will, just like they post Happy Diwali and Merry Christmas etc at the appropriate time too.

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 31/03/2025 07:55

In all the big things I have to worry about, this is fairly insignificant.

TheChosenTwo · 31/03/2025 07:58

I don’t know why you’d even follow him on Twitter or even look him up when you seem to hate him 😂 how odd!

He posted about his mother on Instagram. You are being ridiculous.

BitOutOfPractice · 31/03/2025 07:59

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 31/03/2025 00:23

Oh absolutely can't fault the fact he's got comms out about those other issues.

It felt like an omission because, well it was!

You've all told me he mentioned it on all the other platforms. So why not X?

Im sure they use different platforms for different messages. Part of a comms strategy. I’d say twitter isn’t the platform for touchy feely stuff.

and you’d have probably ripped him apart if he had posted about md on twitter. Something like “why isn’t he posting about the serious stuff going on in the world?” or some such guff.

And yes I know it’s not called twitter any more.

SwanOfThoseThings · 31/03/2025 08:00

You have to draw a line somewhere. I downloaded an 'events calendar' at work that has festivals/events from around the world on it - thinking it would be nice to do team activities based on some of them - there are multiple events every single day; religious festivals and 'international such and such day'. If you acknowledge too many of them, they lose all significance, it just becomes 'what day is it today?'

BarbedButterfly · 31/03/2025 08:00

Everyone i know is boycotting twitter so maybe Kier is too 😁

Maybe some kind of general acknowledgement of the bloody hard graft we put in to raising the next generation? Reflecting for a little while maybe on those mothers we've loved and lost? I'm sure they could have come up with something.

I think he's not a great friend to women and it just would have been nice to see something along those lines.

Hope that explains it to everyone wondering.

The bloody hard graft we put in?
Did you see that he held a reception at no10 on International Women's Day, to celebrate the achievements of women in all spheres of live?
I personally think that's more important than not having "Happy Mother's Day" on one of the Comms outlets.
