Keir Starmer ignoring Mother's Day

AIBU to think it's a bit of a glaring omission?

Nothing on Twix today except something about Ramadan, and an RT about Myanmar.

Lots of upset on there about him ignoring Lent too.

It's probably too late to expect anything now.

What's his objective here? It feels so... deliberate. And bizarre.

Fully expecting some to accuse me of dog whistling. But I'd still be interested in why they think he's done it.

But still… you haven’t explained why you need him to wish you a happy Mother’s Day?

Not sure it’s a case of wishing anyone ‘Happy Mothers Day’, but some people might have thought he’d reference it in a ‘hope all mothers are being spoilt by their loved ones’ kind of way. After all, the majority of florists, and most restaurants, are making a huge amount of money today, so it’s a pretty big day for a lot of women. Btw, I personally couldn’t care less myself whether he references Mothers Day or not. I think he’s a twat whether he refers to it or whether he doesn’t..🤷‍♀️

Topsyturvy78 · 31/03/2025 00:20

Honestly I couldn't give a shit and yes I am a mum. I also think mothers day is far too commercialised. I would rather see him posting about Myanmar you can't seriously compare the two.

Oh absolutely can't fault the fact he's got comms out about those other issues.

It felt like an omission because, well it was!

You've all told me he mentioned it on all the other platforms. So why not X?

I'd lose all respect for him if he tweeted "hope all mothers are being spoilt by their loved ones". He's the PM not a PR rep for a chain of pubs.

I think he is winding up Twitter, knowing the demographics since Musk took over. I am not on Instagram, but saw this on FB

He is the spit of his mum.

Did he post for Valentine’s Day? As the exact same applies, if not more so. Had a scroll of his profile and couldn’t see that he had wished anyone a happy Valentine’s Day, but happy to be corrected on that.

blackbird77 · 31/03/2025 00:26

Doesn’t look like he posted about National Pencil Day either today. This is why I wanted out of the EU.

He did acknowledge Mother’s Day. And he wished Muslims Eid Mubarak, as Eid is the most important date in the Muslim calendar. The same as he wishes people Happy Easter, Merry Christmas, Happy Diwali, and Happy Hannukah. Is it the fact that he acknowledged Eid that’s bothering you?

Maybe some kind of general acknowledgement of the bloody hard graft we put in to raising the next generation? Reflecting for a little while maybe on those mothers we've loved and lost? I'm sure they could have come up with something.

I think he's not a great friend to women and it just would have been nice to see something along those lines.

Hope that explains it to everyone wondering.

And they did as he told them.

TheFairyCaravan · 31/03/2025 00:31

It’s pathetic how a certain group of people get wound up by social media posts. I’ve seen absolute rage at The Royal Family for posting “Eid Mubarak”, likewise on a similar post by the British Army. Both parties, like Keir Starmer have wished women happy Mother’s Day, but it’s not stopped these absolute idiots banging on and being downright racist.

The only people who need to wish you happy Mother’s Day are your kids. No one else,

“Reflecting for a little while maybe on those mothers we've loved and lost?”

he literally posted about his own mother, who is no longer alive. You are strange!

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 31/03/2025 00:33

@Penguinmouse not on X. There was literally nothing.

We don't all use the same platforms.

Mothering Sunday is about returning to your Mother Church and therefore you'd probably visit your family. So not really about women at all. If people are so bothered about acknowledging a Sunday in Lent then that's the festival they mean not Mother's Day. Mothers Day is nice but it's basically made up to sell stuff.

I'm sorry, you want the PM to kiss your arse for "raising the next generation"? As in, parenting the children that you chose to have? Get a grip.

ghostyslovesheets · 31/03/2025 00:36

Bet he didn’t post it on MySpace either damn him - I mean he’s obviously morally obligated to post a message on every platform ever

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 31/03/2025 00:37

OK, thought there may have been more support for mothers day on MUMSnet but I guess I misjudged!

Thanks anyway I guess.

What support do you need @DangerQuakeRhinoSnake?

Penguinmouse · 31/03/2025 00:40

That’s your problem if you don’t use those platforms. You’re foaming at the mouth that he hasn’t posted and then were demonstrably proved wrong. Sorry he didn’t send out a message via pigeon or in sky writing.

what even is that post?? Oh my god, it’s like a gammon convention with a side helping of Tommy Robinson.

HellDorado · 31/03/2025 00:43

My mother put a brave face on it and thanked me and my sister for our Mother’s Day gifts. To look at her, you’d never know the pain she was feeling inside at the lack of acknowledgment from the Prime Minister. That woman is a trooper.

My kids wished me Happy Mothers Day. They got me flowers and cards. I don’t need the PM, the King or MUMSnet to acknowledge it. It’s become an over commercialised day, just like everything else. I’m in no way at all offended that the PM, the King and other high profile people have wished Muslims Eid Mubarak, unlike most of the frothers on X.
