Keir Starmer ignoring Mother's Day

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 30/03/2025 23:12

AIBU to think it's a bit of a glaring omission?

Nothing on Twix today except something about Ramadan, and an RT about Myanmar.

Lots of upset on there about him ignoring Lent too.

It's probably too late to expect anything now.

What's his objective here? It feels so... deliberate. And bizarre.

Fully expecting some to accuse me of dog whistling. But I'd still be interested in why they think he's done it.

I can confirm: Rishi Sunak has never tweeted about Mother’s Day or Lent; Boris Johnson has never tweeted about Lent and only once tweeted about Mother’s Day, when he reminded people to socially distance on Mother’s Day; Theresa May has never tweeted about Mother’s Day and only once (in her last year as PM) tweeted about Lent. So did you do posts about them too?

Interesting that some posters feel he's deliberately trying to wind up X users (or his people are, at any rate).

Feels like a strange game for a PM to play if so, don't you think?

If "people" on X get wound up by him posting about Eid that says more about them really.

In the real world no one has noticed or cares what he posts on what.

Ive seen A photo of him with his mum Dad And wife today with a message about mothers day I'm sure ?

Yeh he did not post it to all platforms though. He could have done a text only one for X and it would have saved a lot of gnashing 😄

But still… you haven’t explained why you need him to wish you a happy Mother’s Day?

If people are sad enough to care so deeply about this they’d have just found another thing to complain about if he had posted on Twitter

Gnashing from a few thousand right wing trolls/ bots who hate him anyway?

Ughouchargh · 31/03/2025 00:04

Mother's Day isn't a festival that people celebrate communally. Children wish their mothers a happy day. That's it. They don't typically say it as a general greeting as you might for Christmas, Eid, Diwali etc. As I'm not Keir Starmer's mum I don't need anything from him re Mother's day.

As you seem to I hope you enjoyed his Mother's day social media post now it has been brought to your attention.

I would sooner the Government abandoned Twitter altogether. It puts money in the pocket of a Nazi, and it’s filled with Racists and Misogynists.

SchrodingersTwat2 · 31/03/2025 00:05

I'm not Keir Starmer's mother.

It's not even a British (by which I presume you mean Christian) tradition. It means you visit your mother church. It's made up to sell stuff.

And fewer than 50% of British people are Christian so it's not really a thing at all.

You sound deranged.

What makes you think your traditions are the traditions of 66 million others?

Bizarre.

Penguinmouse · 31/03/2025 00:07

Thick thread.

friendlycat · 31/03/2025 00:07

Why on earth does the PM need to wish the country a happy Mother’s Day?

blackbird77 · 31/03/2025 00:07

You are really sad. I don’t expect the prime minister or president of a country to officially acknowledge days like Mother’s Day, Fathers Day, Halloween, Valentines Day, Black Friday, National Cheesecake Day or Cats Appreciation Day. They are not major holidays and most don’t have anything other than commercialised or fun significance.

He would post acknowledgements about major political or religious observations of all religions because he’s the prime minister of a country and he serves citizens of all faiths and they are major festivals. It helps with social cohesion, inclusivity, fosters good global relationships and amicability between different countries. It’s also just a nice thing to do.

He will acknowledge Easter and Christmas just like they all have done. Barely a single previous prime minister acknowledged Lent ever in an official capacity and most never mentioned Mothers Day with any vigour. Were you foaming at the mouth and making angry Mumsnet posts then?! Were you incandescent when Boris Johnson tweeted Happy Diwali but not Happy Fathers Day?!

Besides, people have told you that he’s posted a more intimate Mother’s Day post talking about his wife and late mother on his personal Facebook page which is more in keeping with the nature of the day so what’s the problem?

EdithBond · 31/03/2025 00:07

He certainly doesn’t appear bothered about mothers with disabilities, or who care for people, after the cuts he’s just announced.

Judge him on his actions not his virtue signalling (or lack of).

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 30/03/2025 23:20

Link?

I googled “Keir Starmer Mother’s Day” and up it popped. Were you not capable of doing the same?

Well I said it as a joke. It’s in reference to the fact that twitter has become a cesspit of hate and lies.

You’re the only one gnashing on here. And who cares about X?

Scirocco · 31/03/2025 00:11

So, the PM's account posted "something about" a major religious festival happening today and tomorrow (Eid) and a major earthquake that's killed over 1,000 people, but you're upset that he didn't post more about Mother's Day. Unless you're his mum and he actually forgot, it's not really a big deal whether or not his work account posts something on his behalf.

ArabellaFishwife · 31/03/2025 00:13

Christ alive, what the fuck?

RockyRogue1001 · 31/03/2025 00:14

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 30/03/2025 23:25

So what I'm getting from his defenders is... why would he tweet about it, it's not his job, but also, he posted about it on other socials didn't he do well?

I'm not his mother so why would he post about mothers day, but oh how lovely he acknowledged his mum and wife 🤨

Not on FB or Instagram so wouldn't see those.

If it's an admin error then it's hilariously unprofessional.

When you're proved wrong, don't acknowledge it or slink away. And definitely don't apologise

Keep shouting your argument.

Trust me, your intelligence will shine through.

Go you!

TheSmallAssassin · 31/03/2025 00:16

I pointed out up thread, @DangerQuakeRhinoSnake, that only Liz Truss out of the previous 5 PMs (plus Boris in a "keep your mum safe" Covid tweet) have ever tweeted about Mother's Day (in office or out). Why do you think Keir not tweeting about it is so significant?

Springee · 31/03/2025 00:18

I think he's a Christian, so it's an omission

Why on earth should he?
Twitter's absolutely awful for abuse lately, don't blame him for not opening up his family to that.
Gnashing over whether he posted to Twitter or not is ridiculous

How can he wind people up on X by the absence of posting something?! Especially as pretty much barely any president or prime minister of any country has ever made a tweet about Mothers Day (when it falls in their country) either?!
