Keir Starmer ignoring Mother's Day

AIBU to think it's a bit of a glaring omission?

Nothing on Twix today except something about Ramadan, and an RT about Myanmar.

Lots of upset on there about him ignoring Lent too.

It's probably too late to expect anything now.

What's his objective here? It feels so... deliberate. And bizarre.

Fully expecting some to accuse me of dog whistling. But I'd still be interested in why they think he's done it.

I've heard he bought his wife a bag of mini eggs and then asked if he could share them. Bastard.

Which not one person has said.

Rather, if the pm is going to dabble in social media he must be consistent and inclusive.

The Downing Street account doesn’t belong to the PM. He can do what the fuck he likes on his personal SM accounts - just like you.

How about amateurishly offended then?

🤣

What are you on about? Of course the jam goes first! This is a Christian country!

I put jam on first too. Then plonk clotted cream on top of that.

I've no class, me! 🤣 Maybe Starmer should tweet about his preferred order of these things. Then everyone will know who should be offended and who shouldn't! 🙄🤣

BIWI · 31/03/2025 12:22

Maybe we could take it in turns to be offended?

Kemi, have you not got anything better to do with your time?

I find your suggestion offensive.

If anyone wants a perfect example of playing chess with a pigeon, this thread is it.

ThatMrsM · 31/03/2025 12:25

The Labour party posted about Mothers Day on X, Instagram and Facebook. I hadn't even considered that Keir Stamer would or wouldn't post about it until seeing this thread.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 31/03/2025 12:27

YANBU He's a disgrace. Today is International Potato Day and he's posted nothing. Furthermore I bet he's having chips for tea. The potato murdering bastard.

You can’t it’s not your turn until Tomorrow at 9am

ghostyslovesheets · 31/03/2025 12:29

I’ve heard he never puts down the next customer bar on the conveyor belt when he does the weekly shop …

Livelovebehappy · 31/03/2025 12:33

Allswellthatendswelll · 31/03/2025 00:23

I'd lose all respect for him if he tweeted "hope all mothers are being spoilt by their loved ones". He's the PM not a PR rep for a chain of pubs.

Don't he silly. No different to wishing somone happy Christmas or happy new year. Do you lose respect for him for that too? Like I said, I don't like him anyway so wouldn't be bothered if he said it or not, but clearly others are bothered.

HRTQueen · 31/03/2025 12:35

I wish politician stayed off social media

it’s creates too many issues (Trump) and too many are riled up by non issues such as this nonsense

Might be no bad thing.

So you think he should be saying "happy busy day for businesses" then?

I don't need the PM to "reflect" on my dead mum. I'd rather he spent time with his own family when away from work and focusing on work when he's there.

Give over. He says Happy Christmas. Does that rattle your cage too? If he says it, you dont have to take it on board. Like him saying Happy Eid. I dont care because its not relevant to me, but its relevant to others, so if he says it, thats fine too. Not everything is about you. You do you...

Livelovebehappy · 31/03/2025 12:40

Ifeellikeateenageragain · 31/03/2025 06:41

Dunno mate... I'm more upset about him ignoring and aiding genocides but 🤷🏼‍♀️

Here we go. If you're upset, go on the very quiet Gaza threads. This one isn't for that particular subject.

I just don't think we need a load of trite platitudes like "hope all mums are being spoilt" from politicians on what is basically now a commercial day. He's not a religious leader so he doesn't need to pontificate on lent. It's simple politeness to acknowledge a major religious holiday on an official twitter account. Although it wouldn't bother me at all if he didn't acknowledge Eid or Easter or Diwali. He's not the head of state.
A personal tribute on his personal IG is lovely it that's what he wants to do.

So you're upset he mentioned mothers day and not Eid in his Instagram page then?? Not exactly consistent is it? And you seem to be very upset about inconsistency.

Im not 'very upset' about this.

Why must women who have different views be very upset, professionally offended, fummin or hating.

I'm a woman with a view.

KS and his comms team should do better. I won't hold my breath.

MrsSunshine2b · 31/03/2025 12:42

Eskarina1 · 31/03/2025 11:19

Let's unpack why we think a commercial holiday telling us that we deserve a lie in once a year for carrying the mental load all year round is an important, women affirming holiday. At its best, it's a day for individuals to celebrate their mother/mother figures and an excuse to have family time. From a religious perspective, it's a break from the boredom of lent food and a time to reconnect with your roots. At it's worst, it's misogynistic and reinforces stereotypes about the role of mothers and our desire for flowers. Mostly, it's just an excuse to sell things.

Nonsense. My husband and I both do a lot all year round for our kids because that's our job, but it doesn't mean that it's not nice to have a bit of recognition for that. It's not hard to make a little bit of effort once a year to say "Hey, I notice everything you do for our family and I appreciate it." That doesn't mean that my daughter, stepdaughter and husband don't also say thank you on other days of the year, or that I don't thank them. It doesn't have to be commercial at all.

Ok, you're not very upset. I take that back.
However, you did think it was an issue that Keir Starmer had posted about Eid on X but not mothers day, because you want him to be consistent.
So I can assume you feel it's also an issue that he poster about mothers day on Instagram but not Eid. It's exactly the same inconsistency.

To answer the question (and sorry to single anyone out) this is the post that refs trying to wind up X users. Did not come from me!

I read this as ‘winding up’ as in closing down, given the reason stated. I don’t think any government departments or public bodies should be on there anymore to be honest.
