Keir Starmer ignoring Mother's Day

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 30/03/2025 23:12

AIBU to think it's a bit of a glaring omission?

Nothing on Twix today except something about Ramadan, and an RT about Myanmar.

Lots of upset on there about him ignoring Lent too.

It's probably too late to expect anything now.

What's his objective here? It feels so... deliberate. And bizarre.

Fully expecting some to accuse me of dog whistling. But I'd still be interested in why they think he's done it.

"AIBU to be devastated and have my day ruined because the Prime Minister didn't wish me a happy Mother's Day on my social media platform of choice" is pretty barrel-scraping, even for MN around Mother's Day.

Which not one person has said.

Rather, if the pm is going to dabble in social media he must be consistent and inclusive.

Downing St are never allowed to change their social media strategy to reflect changing usage patterns or their objectives, because the professionally offended who already dislike him will feel justified?

It's an interesting approach. Not a good one, but worthy of study just for what lies beneath.

CurlewKate · 31/03/2025 11:29

I heard Starmer uses his crumby knife to spread his marmite on his toast. And he puts the milk in first.

ERthree · 31/03/2025 11:31

TrixieFatell · 30/03/2025 23:19

He posted on Instagram this morning about his mum and his wife.

The Lent thing is weird, why would he mention that? I imagine he will post about Easter. People look too much into things to get their knickers in a twist about.

Why did he mention Ramadan ?

Too far.
I've read that he thinks Mary Berry's cakes are dull.

it is some sort of reform bot comms push.

loads of "people" complaining that the didn't wish a "happy lent" when that is not a thing, because he wished a happy eid. when he will obviously wish a happy easter.

he also did happy Hanukah. everyone needs to get a grip.

No, it's some sort of Islamophobia. Scratch the surface a tiny bit and it's everywhere. We may still be a Christian country (47%), but 37% have 'no religion' at all, and the second most common religion is Islam. If 'Happy Eid' (a worldwide event) on X (a worldwide platform) triggers so many people, you've got to understand that this isn't really about Mother's Day at all (an event celebrated only within the UK at this time of year).

He has also posted about Hanukkah, Yom Kippur and Diwali, as well as Christmas, yet it’s only Eid that’s got the lunatics riled up. Says it all really.

That's nothing, he also puts the jam on his scone first. And he pronounces it skoan rather than skon. Utter bastard has no shame.

Edited

I'm not professionally offended. It is very simple, if he's going to use Twitter to acknowledge one important event then he should use Twitter to acknowledge another important event.

This isnt just some crazy wimmin on mumsnet daring to speak and point out his shortcomings and selectiveness, it is indeed being commented on on many other platforms too.

ERthree · 31/03/2025 11:31

Why did he mention Ramadan ?

Why the hell wouldn't he mention Eid when it's a huge day for Muslims? Millions of people in the uk are celebrating it. It's the same reason he mentions Christmas and Diwali.

Ok then. If you want consistency are you equally offended that he didn't mention Eid on his Instagram page but he did mention mothers day?

It's being commented about on other platforms because people like you have been told to be outraged about something and so here you are, being outraged.

Exactly. Social media is full of this shit.

Lentilweaver · 31/03/2025 11:49

Has KS posted about Guru Nanak Day? If not, I am offended.

The Sikhs do a great deal to help the poor and hungry in their gurudwaras, and deserve recognition. And make up 0.9 % of the population, I believe, which is more than the Jewish community.

I'm not outraged, I'm not professionally offended, I'm not hysterical.

If he uses social media he should be responsible and consistent. I know, I know it's a big ask.

BIWI · 31/03/2025 11:51

How about amateurishly offended then?

So you're upset he mentioned mothers day and not Eid in his Instagram page then?? Not exactly consistent is it? And you seem to be very upset about inconsistency.

blackbird77 · 31/03/2025 11:54

This isn't even in the top 50,000 things I imagine a person who wasn't insane would even notice let alone care about.

SallyWD · 31/03/2025 12:00

I haven't heard/seen a single Muslim complain about the fact Keir didn't mention Eid on his Instagram page whilst he did mention mothers day. However, the number of people whining about mothers day not being mentioned on X is absurd.
Bunch of snowflakes.

How has he not been inclusive?
As has been pointed out multiple times, he HAS acknowledged Mother's Day on social media.
It's not his fault you haven't seen it Confused

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 30/03/2025 23:25

So what I'm getting from his defenders is... why would he tweet about it, it's not his job, but also, he posted about it on other socials didn't he do well?

I'm not his mother so why would he post about mothers day, but oh how lovely he acknowledged his mum and wife 🤨

Not on FB or Instagram so wouldn't see those.

If it's an admin error then it's hilariously unprofessional.

Lol 😂. Shock, horror, PPs on mumsnet have different views. Who said a reform shite stirring account?! 🙌

Please explain exactly why you think that everything that is posted on one social media platform must also be copied to a different social media platform.

What are you on about? Of course the jam goes first! This is a Christian country!
