Keir Starmer ignoring Mother's Day

AIBU to think it's a bit of a glaring omission?

Nothing on Twix today except something about Ramadan, and an RT about Myanmar.

Lots of upset on there about him ignoring Lent too.

It's probably too late to expect anything now.

What's his objective here? It feels so... deliberate. And bizarre.

Fully expecting some to accuse me of dog whistling. But I'd still be interested in why they think he's done it.

Seriously? Have you completely lost your sense of proportion?

No. I mean tbh I do think a pm and his comms team should have more important things to do than tweet but if they're going to bother they should be consistent and inclusive.

GCAcademic · 31/03/2025 10:15

SallyWD · 31/03/2025 10:10

But he posted about mothers day so what is disgraceful exactly?

It's disgraceful to not post on the platform that is owned by the world's greatest proponent of motherhood, Elon Musk - greater even than the great Boris Johnson in his paternal fecundity. Instagram and Facebook just don't cut it in the mothering validation stakes.

Why? X/twitter is a cesspit and most sensible people have left there and gone to Bluesky. It’s also Musk-owned and you might have noticed a bit of tension there with the whole Trump/Ukraine situation. Should he also make a tiktok and have a snapchat profile and whatever other social media someone might have?

This isnt directed at me but I'll answer.

He posted 9m Twitter about a religious event. He should have also posted about Mother's Day on the same platform, an important day for many.

Either the pm uses social media consistently and correctly or doesn't bother. Maybe he needs some guidance.

Needs some guidance because he didn't post Happy Mother's Day to the platform of your choice 😂
Even though he's posted elsewhere on other social media platforms so has hardly "ignored it" or trolling" everyone.
It's an OUTRAGE that he didn't know Janiie from Mumsnet's preferred social media site! Maybe he should consult you next time, hey.
FFS 😂

IsoldeWagner · 31/03/2025 10:20

Just give him 5 minutes, though. He's discussing people trafficking at a migration conference.
Priorities all wrong, eh?

SallyWD · 31/03/2025 10:20

As I woke up on my mothers day morning, my children came to my bedside with a cup.of tea and a homemade card. I shoved them out the way and tossed aside the card. Sod that, what really matters today is whether Keir Starmer has wished me a happy mothers day.
I frantically scroll on social media. Oh....he has. There's a heartfelt message about the women in his life and he wishes us all a happy mother's day. Ok....that's good, I suppose although I feel a pang of disappointment that I have no reason to rage about KS today.
Hang on a minute! I haven't checked X! I go on and have a look. YES!!! THANK GOD! This is what I'm talking about. He's mentioned Eid, but not mother's day! Good will tp Muslims (of all people!) But not mothers!! I start frothing at the mouth.
I feel that familiar sense of outrage, that warm glow of self righteous indignation, that comforting feeling of hatred towards Muslims. This is more like it!
I spend the rest of the day saying things like "its a disgrace", "it's discusting" (sic), "Keir Starmer cares more about Muslims than the British people".
I sign up to join Reform. Nigel will save us. All is well once again.

Now I want a Kier Starmer Tiktok dance 😁

No, actually I want him to just get on with running the country like a sensible, normal person 😁

zanahoria · 31/03/2025 10:23

This is unreasonable but politicians invite by commenting on some things then others feel left out

I would be happier if he left social media altogether.

BeHere · 31/03/2025 10:23

What a truly ridiculous premise for a thread.

IsoldeWagner · 31/03/2025 10:23

@SallyWD I hope that you're recovering from your ordeal. What a state of affairs!
I'd send your therapist bill to no10.
If only we had someone in charge who valued and respected women and mothers; Johnson, Trump, Musk, Putin.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 31/03/2025 10:24

Has anyone saying that Starmer has more important things to do than post on twitter about Mothers' Day said the same about his twitter posts for Ramadan, Eid or Fathers' Day? There's a lot to be unpacked from that, not least it being somehow seen as acceptable to minimise and show contempt for traditions concerning mothers.

HappydaysArehere · 31/03/2025 10:25

Perhaps he has a few other things on his mind.

IsoldeWagner · 31/03/2025 10:25

Oh dear, Toto.
I don't think we're in Kansas anymore.

'It is a cesspit and most sensible people have left'? But he posted about a religious event, what are you suggesting about the people he was sending his best wishes to?

Ecocool · 31/03/2025 10:25

YANBU. He's a disgrace. He's trolling us now. I think he's trying to stir up trouble in the UK.

MrsSunshine2b · 31/03/2025 10:25

What do you mean by "Lent"? Would you like him to post 40 times to confirm it's still Lent?

IcedPurple · 31/03/2025 10:25

TrixieFatell · 30/03/2025 23:19

He posted on Instagram this morning about his mum and his wife.

The Lent thing is weird, why would he mention that? I imagine he will post about Easter. People look too much into things to get their knickers in a twist about.

Absolutely.

I am the opposite of a fan of Keir Starmer, but this is just silly. It's basically the tabloid 'PC gone mad' sort of criticism.

JHound · 31/03/2025 10:26

Oh good lord this is pathetic!

Why do you need the Prime Minister to validate you in this way?

Trying to stir up trouble in the UK by not posting Happy Mother's Day on Twitter even though he did recognise the day on other platforms?

It's not that deep, bro 😁

OK, thought there may have been more support for mothers day on MUMSnet but I guess I misjudged!

Thanks anyway I guess.

You didn’t misjudge. You were trying to get people wound up and it didn’t work! Please come off x/twitter it Will distort your view of the world

Tell us you’re trolling the thread without telling us you’re trolling the thread Grin
… because you cannot be serious.

Mind you, we also have @Janiie trying to align a massively commercial marketer’s delight with a religious event, which is as equally bonkers.

Why on earth wouldn't I be serious? Try addressing the point if you can instead of casting aspersions.
