Keir Starmer ignoring Mother's Day

AIBU to think it's a bit of a glaring omission?

Nothing on Twix today except something about Ramadan, and an RT about Myanmar.

Lots of upset on there about him ignoring Lent too.

It's probably too late to expect anything now.

What's his objective here? It feels so... deliberate. And bizarre.

Fully expecting some to accuse me of dog whistling. But I'd still be interested in why they think he's done it.

'There have been loads of posts on here about disappointing Mother's Days where husbands and kids have forgotten and arranged nothing, or the OP spends the day waiting on her toxic MIL, or from Mumsnetters who are estranged from their mums.'

We seee loads of posts on here about disappointing Christmases, birthdays, weddings and holidays. I'm not sure what your point is.

If he posts on X then he should recognise all important events on that day.

Inclusivity, it shouldn't need pointing out to our pm.

My point, which which you didn't include in your selective quote, was that those were things to be genuinely upset about, not the fact that Keir Starmer didn't wish you Happy Mother's Day on Twitter (although he did on Facebook and Instagram). It's just performative outrage to make a racist point.

I think it’s a disgrace, but he seems to be deliberately causing division.

Eh? (And in any case, he did post about Mother's Day)

That's a fucking joke for a start. If all he cared about was Muslim voters, he would stop selling any arms to Israel.

The OP's post was a racist dog whistle and you have heard it and rushed on here to express your outrage.

He didn’t tweet about Ramadan. He tweeted about Eid.

Starmer has frequently posted about ramadan and his involvement in various related events.

SallyWD · 31/03/2025 08:42

Why do people like you think everything is a disgrace? And for your information he dud post about mothers day, unlike Rishi Sunak last year.

And why do people like you think it isn’t?

meatyryvita · 31/03/2025 09:53

He didn't ignore it. He posted on Instagram IIRC.

TyrannasaurusJex · 31/03/2025 09:54

Kemi? Is that you?

GCAcademic · 31/03/2025 09:59

Pinepeak2434 · 31/03/2025 09:52

I think most normal people are not so easily triggered to think that posting something on Facebook and Instagram, but not X, constitutes a "disgrace".

Ironically, I do think that Right-wingers have a point when they go on about how Western civilisation has become decadent and weak. When people are getting so upset and het up about "inclusion" because the PM only validates them on Facebook and Instagram, and not on their social media cesspit of choice - well, that seems a very good example of Western civilsation in decline.

ACynicalDad · 31/03/2025 10:00

I think the guy is awful, but this isn't something to beat him up over, even less so when he did it on another platform.

TooBigForMyBoots · 31/03/2025 10:00

It sure is @thepariscrimefiles. Elon commanded his X Monkeys jump and they did. Good little X Monkeys.🐒

Save this kind of shit for the feminism/gender critical board. In the real world we like to deal with real issues, not whether the PM has wished people a happy Mother’s Day on X.

What’s on that board is real world issues, and I can see some posters names I recognise from that board also disagreeing with the OP, so not sure why you think this thread would go down any better on there

SallyWD · 31/03/2025 10:01

Pinepeak2434 · 31/03/2025 09:52

Because it's not.

I don't think it's a disgrace that the PM did not post on Twitter about a day that is important in the UK but not around the world. He did post about it on Instagram and Facebook.
Which part of it do you think is the disgrace? Is Twitter very important to you?

HotSawce · 31/03/2025 10:03

I retract my previous statement. He posted about it on his Instagram/LinkedIn. It's obvious he misses his mother.

Well that’s your opinion. I still think it’s a disgrace, and if you don’t like that well that’s none of my business quite frankly.

This isnt directed at me but I'll answer.

He posted 9m Twitter about a religious event. He should have also posted about Mother's Day on the same platform, an important day for many.

Either the pm uses social media consistently and correctly or doesn't bother. Maybe he needs some guidance.

Ghosttofu99 · 31/03/2025 10:06

Maybe like most people he doesn’t want to be seen posting on the hate fuelled fake news swamp formally known as Twitter. I avoid endorsing the Nazi salute guy too.

I enjoyed Kier’s Mother’s Day Instagram post though.

pimplebum · 31/03/2025 10:07

Myanmar ? Trump? Ukraine nhs he’s got a lot of his plate , why would he mention lent he’s not Christian?

I am dead jealous of you , if that’s all that got you riled today

Seriously? Have you completely lost your sense of proportion?

Bogginsthe3rd · 31/03/2025 10:09

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 31/03/2025 00:37

OK, thought there may have been more support for mothers day on MUMSnet but I guess I misjudged!

Thanks anyway I guess.

So now you know you are wrong and Sir Kier did post about Mother's Day, do you feel more like a fool or turnip?

You think he needs guidance, I don't.

I asked you earlier which other events you think he should be posting about so I can watch out for them?

Finallydoingit24 · 31/03/2025 10:09

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 31/03/2025 00:28

Maybe some kind of general acknowledgement of the bloody hard graft we put in to raising the next generation? Reflecting for a little while maybe on those mothers we've loved and lost? I'm sure they could have come up with something.

I think he's not a great friend to women and it just would have been nice to see something along those lines.

Hope that explains it to everyone wondering.

Oh my god you are truly pathetic. Especially since he actually DID post on various platforms, just not all of them.

LordEmsworth · 31/03/2025 10:10

The bastard didn't acknowledge my birthday either. How hard would it have been? Just shows how little he respects voters when he can't be arsed to point out to everyone how amazing I am.

SallyWD · 31/03/2025 10:10

Pinepeak2434 · 31/03/2025 10:05

But he posted about mothers day so what is disgraceful exactly?
