Keir Starmer ignoring Mother's Day

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 30/03/2025 23:12

AIBU to think it's a bit of a glaring omission?

Nothing on Twix today except something about Ramadan, and an RT about Myanmar.

Lots of upset on there about him ignoring Lent too.

It's probably too late to expect anything now.

What's his objective here? It feels so... deliberate. And bizarre.

Fully expecting some to accuse me of dog whistling. But I'd still be interested in why they think he's done it.

X is certainly not the platform for celebrating women. He did well to avoid. The thick misogynist trolls puppeted by Musk would certainly have been posting vile abuse if he'd posted that picture of his wife and mother on there.

I didn't want to see his wife and mum on there. I'm not bothered about his fanily pics. If he is going to the bother of wishing happy eid on X he should have also wished everyone Happy Mother's Day.

IsoldeWagner · 31/03/2025 09:17

Do you know what he's doing at this very moment, @Janiie ?
Addressing the Immigration Crime Summit and raising questions about trafficking gangs.
I think he's got other things to deal with other than making sure he sent out a message on X as well on Instagram.
Priorities.

Because it is an important date for many. Didn't you know?

Does he specifically need to post on X about any day that is a special day for many, what difference does it make?

Valentines day is a special day to many and he didn’t post anything for that. Other posters have pointed out other prime ministers didn’t post for Mother’s Day.

MojoMoon · 31/03/2025 09:21

Janie, can we get a full list of days that you think the 10 Downing Street Twitter feed should acknowledge?

thepariscrimefiles · 31/03/2025 09:21

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 31/03/2025 08:07

Presented without comment.

He posted about Mother's Day on Twitter last year as well. Maybe he will just post about Father's Day on Instagram this year as Twitter is now a racist/fascist cesspool thanks to Elon Musk.

Despite my disappointment with this Government (not left wing enough, in case you were wondering), he has spoken very movingly about his close relationship with his mum who was very ill for most of his life, and his difficult relationship with his dad. Therefore, I don't think that he thinks that dads are more important than mums which is why you are trying to imply.

Plus saying 'Presented without comment' is a comment OP.

If he is bothering post on Twitter/X about important events for people then yes, he needs to be consistent.

Mother's Day is not equal to Valentines day. One is celebrating women.

Cynic17 · 31/03/2025 09:22

I'm assuming you're not Sir Keir's mother, OP?
Why does he need to mention it? He's got a country to run, FFS, and some rather pressing international problems.

We do not need performative tweeting from politicians and public figures. We just want them to do their job. So if he tweets about policy issues and matters of (inter)national importance, that's fine.
Mothers' Day is not important.

Why though? They don't compare. It's like comparing father's day to Christmas. Mothering Sunday originally referred to returning to your mother church where you were baptised. It was nothing to do with mothers.
Unlike previous PM's he cared enough to post about mothers day on other forums. If this is what you worry about given what else is happening in the world, I really do despair.

Thoughts and prayers. You are obviously very upset by the PM only validating mums on Facebook and Instagram.

You can at least console yourself that Elon knows the importance of mothers, having created many in his quest for white supremacy. You're doing your bit for mums by supporting X. #rightsideofhistory

zingally · 31/03/2025 09:25

I honestly give zero fucks whether he tweets about mothers day! I'd rather he got on with the much more important business of running the country.

What a bizarre thing to be upset about!

😂😂😂

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 31/03/2025 09:26

Oh god really? The social media intern probably forgot to check the “Twitter/X” box on the social media scheduling software so it only posted to Instagram and Facebook. I really don’t care if my PM wishes me Happy Mothers Day and I’m not analysing which messages are posted on which platforms - much better things to do! Who even solely uses X these days anyway, with a fascist at the helm?

Mother's Day is not equal to Valentines day. One is celebrating women.

If you care about British, Christian traditions you'll know that mothers day traditionally has nothing to do with women but refers to the mother church.

Pancakeflipper · 31/03/2025 09:27

Thoughts and prayers with those going out of their way to be offended. Must make enjoying life difficult.

Fatrosrhun · 31/03/2025 09:27

Why on earth should he mention Mother’s Day? Or Lent? What next, The Easter Bunny? Nothing to do with politics or running the country.

It has evolved to become a celebration of Mothers. Or do you buy flowers and chocolates for the mother church?

LittleGlowingOblong · 31/03/2025 09:29

TrixieFatell · 30/03/2025 23:19

He posted on Instagram this morning about his mum and his wife.

The Lent thing is weird, why would he mention that? I imagine he will post about Easter. People look too much into things to get their knickers in a twist about.

Isn’t Lent on a level with Ramadan, though? If he tweeted about one he should tweet about the other. Mother’s Day has its origins in Lent.

DonaldMacRonald · 31/03/2025 09:30

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 31/03/2025 00:01

Yeh he did not post it to all platforms though. He could have done a text only one for X and it would have saved a lot of gnashing 😄

Can't you just say "oops I was wrong, he has posted on social media" instead of continuing, despite being wrong, and making yourself look silly and like you've got some kind of axe to grind against him?

PinkFrogss · 31/03/2025 09:30

Well no, it’s a marketing gimmick celebrating mothers. Not all women are mothers. Didn’t you know?

RancidRuby · 31/03/2025 09:30

Good lord, OP. Get a bloody grip, moaning about such a non issue is totally pathetic.

Fargo79 · 31/03/2025 09:30

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 31/03/2025 08:07

Presented without comment.

Basically a mirror of the Mother's Day post he made on social media, then.

Couldn't give a fuck if he posts about Mother's Day or Father's Day. Give even less of a fuck that "he posted on Insta but not Twitter". You obviously don't like him, which is fine, but why not just talk about any legitimate criticisms you have of him as PM? Instead of this silliness.
