As per title really,

AIBU to think that the UK will avoid USA for holidays moving forwards?

  1. You are being unreasonable suggesting this
  2. You are not being unreasonable suggesting this. 😆

Two things can be true at once. Why does our country have to be perfect to have valid criticisms of another country and how it’s being run? Bizarre.

It's the Trumpette way. They're thin skinned, any criticism of their Glorious Leader is met with scorn and whataboutery. Their belief that Trump is MAGA overrides their connection to America's actual reality in 2025.🙈

Zebedee999 · 26/03/2025 14:17

Going to the USA wouldn't bother me but I'll never visit a Muslim country, as a woman why would I? Regimes that treat women as second class citizens should be boycotted but so many visit such places, makes no sense to me.

Trump is legitimising rapists. Plus the recent overturn of Roe v Wade. I'd call that second class.

Roe Vs Wade - I don't agree with that, for some reason individual states can now decide their own rules which gives local democracy I suppose.

Trump legitimising rapists - What law does that, I have not seen any such law passed, even today there are rapists been jailed in the USA? Can you quote me the law?

ScholesPanda · 26/03/2025 15:23

I wouldn't go to the US at the moment, having read the stories about people locked in detention centres and having their social media checked to see if they criticised Trump (and being deported if they did).

Loads will go, and I await the headlines "I took my family to Disneyland, didn't fill out the waiver form correctly and we spent a month in ICE detention".

People go to the UAE and then wonder why the laws are so harsh, they don't buy insurance and then get ill, and then turn up at the airport with a fortnight's validity on their passport despite there being warning stories about this every year. So, they'll still go to the US too.

Weald56 · 26/03/2025 18:07

We won't be going to the USA until Trump is no longer President (& hopefully locked up). We might go to Canada though. 😉

No ‘law’. Supporting Andrew Tate and inviting Conor McGregor to the White House, and the grab pussy remarks, legitimise rape and rapists.

watch this space for law.

I just came back from NYC last Thursday and had 5 amazing days with hubby (5th trip). We loved it and can’t wait to go back. Probably won’t be until 2026/7 now as we have other places booked.

OhcantthInkofaname · 26/03/2025 19:41

I'm in the US. I definitely don't blame you for not wanting to come here for holidays. But please let us come to the UK for our holidays and get a break from the oppressive nonsense emanating from trumpie.

MarvellousMonsters · 26/03/2025 19:53

Nope, you couldn’t pay me to go to the US whilst the orange idiot is in the White House.

Buffs · 26/03/2025 19:55

By all means boycott the USA to demonstrate your disapproval of the current regime and their hatred of Europe but please be aware that half of America loathes Trump and his cronies more than you can imagine.
This place is crazy and divided in a way that’s bordering on civil war. Half the population is frothing with rage at Trump. Their disgust and loathing of him and his vile entourage is palpable.

SashaPicklepops · 26/03/2025 19:59

Definitely for the next 4 years, till the orange one is removed. I'll go to beautiful Canada for a holiday instead.

If you want any suggestions or help planning a trip to Canada (we’re in Montreal but have traveled across the country), please let me know 🇨🇦

We've had fabulous holidays in the US in the past but I'm not going to give another penny of my money to that lot.

Certainly would not go again, the way Zelensky was treated and the contempt they have shown towards Europe mean that my hard earned cash will not be going there.

GinnyW · 26/03/2025 21:20

I haven’t read all of the previous posts. My family had a holiday booked in Colorado this August. There is no way that we could morally spend money in this country so we cancelled it and we feel great about doing that. We are also avoiding all American products.

Justsaynonow · 26/03/2025 21:21

ScrubbedCauliflower · 25/03/2025 12:38

We are looking at Canada for our big adventure holiday next year. Our local travel agent is promoting Canada quite heavily and we are looking at a 14 to 16 day trip including going to see the bears salmon fishing. Any recommendations for other places to go in Canada especially for someone who loves photography, wildlife and the outdoors?

West Coast of Vancouver Island is amazing -Tofino or Uclulet. Also the lower part - French beach, Botanical Beach etc.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/03/2025 22:14

We are also avoiding all American products.

Is that even possible? No Google, Microsoft, Apple, Ford or any other car as it will most likely have US components and that’s just a few companies off the top of my head. Good for you if you are but I can’t imagine how it would work

BlueLimes · 26/03/2025 22:25

We’ve decided to cancel - we’ll lose about £2k but we felt uncomfortable about going. I’m so cross I’m wasting money, but we wouldn’t feel relaxed, so not a holiday anyway. We’ve a 2nd trip booked later in the year - I’ll be able to amend those flights for a fee, so not as bad.

anon666 · 26/03/2025 23:20

I'm in two minds.

Yes the US has gone batshit.

But we Brits visit all kinds of batshit places as tourists and kind of ignore it.

The US is still a lot safer to visit than much of the world.

But disturbing events there, no doubt.

We definitely won't be travelling to/holidaying in USA for the foreseeable. There's a big world out there, full of amazing people & places... we won't be spending our hard earned cash in a country run by a bunch of frat boys, fat boys and felons.

Ineke · 27/03/2025 03:01

I would seriously advise anyone visiting US to make sure that their social media was clean and non political.

Ineke · 27/03/2025 03:08

@ScrubbedCauliflower I was in Canada for four weeks last year. My daughter lives in Whistler. Some amazing places to see, Banff, Lake Louise, Whistler, Pemberton Valley. The drive from Whistler to Lilloet is spectacular. It’s a huge country, I only saw British Columbia which is fabulous. If you like outdoors, this is the place to be.

Moanranger · 27/03/2025 03:52

I went to US (California, Texas & Hawaii) & Mexico in Jan-Feb. (Trip planned a year ago). I have a US passport, DP has UK. Passport control in L A tedious & slow. I got thru in ca 45 min. I then waited another 90 min for partner to clear. It was very anxiety-inducing as I could not contact him or find out what was going on. He has an ETSA but I had no idea if there was an issue. He did get thru ok, but it was v unpleasant.
People generally uptight, tense & unfriendly in Tex & Calif, I think due to general political unhappiness. Hawaii better - Aloha spirit is a thing - food surprisingly disappointing in all 3 states, we found it difficult to get freshly prepared meals & veg in restaurants (Hawaii not known for good food) .Some of this may have been due to high food costs, maybe veg is expensive? Food costs in supermarkets eye-watering.
2 weeks in Mexico -delightful! People gracious & charming, excellent food, salads, soups, seafood, bliss! No Moctezuma’s revenge. We were there for nature & culture. Quite a lot of security in Mexico, regular checkpoints on highways, etc, but I found this re-assuring. No issues with safety, crime, pickpockets, but we are careful in cities, as I would be anywhere in the world.
Go to Mexico, I say!

Only an idiot would go there.
I'd also see it as supporting trump.
We need to be back in Europe. America is screwed.

Frat Boys and Felons really sums them up!
