To think I’m officially old now? What was your defining moment?!

That’s it. I’ve now officially hit old age. Went to a concert with my daughter this week and it was standing. I was on the fringes of a mosh pit and it was very annoying. My feet are still bruised, my hips and legs are killing me and I can’t hear anything. I’m still absolutely exhausted too. I’m 58.

When did you have your epiphany?

70 here and still waiting for it!

PrettayGood · 23/03/2025 15:19

Not anything physical yet (I’m actually in the best shape I’ve been in for years), but 40 was definitely the ‘not young anymore’ moment for me. I’m 52 now.

Closetangel · 23/03/2025 15:20

Definitely 40 for me

mamaduckbone · 23/03/2025 15:27

I'm 49 and fitter and healthier than I was at 30 or 40...however, I had a rare night home alone last night (Dh away and ds out). Thought about seeing if friends were free to go out but instead I excitedly made myself a mushroom risotto, drank a single glass of wine and did some crochet.

HenDoNot · 23/03/2025 15:28

Mine was a mosh pit incident too - age 47.

BlackStrayCat · 23/03/2025 15:31

Over the last 2 years. 54 now.

AdaStewart · 23/03/2025 15:33

I too was in the mosh pit but a decade younger than you at the time, & didn’t even know what a mosh pit was 😆. I’m never going to be old.

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 15:33

Well I’m 36 and feel old and ancient!

Mrscharlieeeee · 23/03/2025 15:33

I’m 41 and am now the proud owner of crocs and Skechers. I bought them specifically for a Disney world trip as we’ll be doing a lot of walking but I’ve been wearing them at home as my god they’re comfortable.

CheesePlantBoxes · 23/03/2025 15:34

When someone told me they were going out at 9pm on a Saturday night and my stomach genuinely lurched at the idea.

Nursingadvice · 23/03/2025 15:34

I’m 37, 35 for me.

I'm 51 and it hasn't happened yet. I always think.if I was to.pop my clogs tomorrow people might say "she was so young!" 🤣🤣🤣

Maitri108 · 23/03/2025 15:37

I was at a petrol station and sitting in the car, in front was a young man filling up his work van. Young and quite handsome and I thought, "I bet his mum's proud."

worrisomeasset · 23/03/2025 15:38

I’m a primary teacher and kids would sometimes call me ‘Mum’ by accident. A few years ago I got my first ‘Nan’.

When people started calling me "madam" in shops.

Sulu17 · 23/03/2025 15:44

People never look surprised when I say I have grown up grandchildren 😫

Tryingtokeepgoing · 23/03/2025 15:44

I don’t feel old on a day to day basis, but my husband died a few years ago when we were both in our mid / late 40s, and that was definitely a defining moment for me in the not being young any more stakes. The label ‘widow’ is definitely aging!! In some respects I envy him; he was ‘young’ all his life, and had the best bits of Gen X without the sh*tshow that political leaders round the world have lead us to today…

Oh yes this too - people now just assume I am talking about an adult when I mention my son!

When a young colleague said "oh my mom has a handbag like that".... I was 40.

Around the same time I was offered a seat on the bus. That was 100% proof I was definitely OLD.

Shegotanology · 23/03/2025 15:51

My sagging jawline. Yes, I'm vain.

SmudgeButt · 23/03/2025 15:55

Had to phone customer service admin line for, ok, I admit it, my pension, and the young chap on the line kept calling me "ma'am".

I took it for a while and then said to him "you know you're making me feel really old when you address me like that" all in a cheery, laughing way. He responded with "yeah I know, I've been told that before" and continued to call me ma'am.

Admittedly he sounded so very young and had to keep putting me on hold to ask for help with the questions I was asking. I've decided that he was 18 and it's his very first job.
