To be horrified that Israel is slaughtering children at a rate not seen for ober

1000 replies

ThisNattyTurtle · 22/03/2025 07:53

Israel killed more children in 15 months than were killed in all the conflicts of the world in the last 4 years combined. Israel is killing children again now at an unprecedented rate and the UK is supporting it with weapons, money and intelligence.
Israel is committing genocide according to the UN, Amnesty and Human Rights Watch. Israel killed 159 Palestinians, including children, during the ceasefire - only 1 Israeli was killed in that time and that was a soldier in a friendly fire event.

Mumsnet HQ there are at least 3 threads about Ukraine still on AIBU, and many other political ones. Please do not hide this topic away in the other section again without at least explaining why UK involvement in the mass slaughter of children is not worthy of the front page. We are supporting a regime much worse than Russia, as much as Russia's regime is awful.

This makes no sense. Civilians aren't terrorising anyone and yet they're the ones paying the price. That is the thing people are upset over. The killing and starvation of innocent civilians.

Civillian death is a by-product of war.
Always has been.
This particular war is no different to any other war.

Why would it make it harder for these counties to support Israel? They've been aware Israel have been acting illegally for decades and continued to support them. They know the leaders are wanted on war crimes and still support them and may have even implicated themselves in war crimes - even more reason why they too don't want the war to end. You seem to have a very limited understanding of the legality of Israel's actions. You are rightfully condemning the illegal acts of Hamas but you support Israel. If they're above the law, what meaning does it have? How do we condemn and punish Hamas for breaking these laws when Israel does the same and people turn a blind eye?

I do not support Netanyahu and I do not support Israel breaking the law, but I understand why they might feel they need to when they are surrounded by enemies openly trying to destroy them and murder their citizens, and useful idiots elsewhere in the world shouting "Free Palestine!" when they have zero idea of the history of the region and trying to minimise the 2024 Hamas atrocities by pretending Israel has deliberately done the same.

"Limited understanding"? How incredibly patronising. I suggest you look in the mirror. You think countries like Iran would let Israel live in peace? How incredibly naive you must be.
Goodbye, I’m done with this thread.

Civilian casualties are an inevitably of war disgustingly. Preventing food, water and aid from reaching civilians is not an inevitability of war. Stopping casualties reaching hospitals (and indeed destroying the hospitals themselves), sending out dumb bombs and snipering children is not an inevitability of war.

Will it be OK for the UK government to drop a bomb on your children's school in pursuit of a terrorist?

And actually the rate of death in this war IS different from any other 21st Century war.

You understand why they might need to commit crimes against humanity? Jesus Christ. Yes you have a very limited understanding. You can take offense at that if you want, but when you're defending a country acting illegally while in the same breath listing the crimes of Hamas it does make you sound ignorant to the actual facts. No one is forcing Israel to illegally occupy the territories, expand illegal settlements, systemically abuse Palestinian people, to flounce off in a huff because of the suggestion Israel are breaking the law "deliberately" is ridiculous. Again classic darvo, "they made us do it", it's not acceptable for Hamas and certainly not acceptable for Israel. Why is asking for consistency in your principals so naive?

dont you think Palestinians might feel the same way?

The CCTV is not included or mentioned, but that doesn't inauthenticate it, of course. Rape and torture allegations must be investigated and Israel held to account if they are found to be true by neutral investigators. Neutral observers must be present at all times and there must be free access to all prisoners and habeas corpus be introduced if not already in place in Israel (this means someone cannot be held without coming before a court and charges made, and this is a public hearing - it operates in the UK, for example). If it is in place then Israel is breaking its own laws by holding people indefinitely without trial and must be held to account and forced to cease doing so.
I would like the same measures to be taken in Gaza, to protect both citizens, hostages and prisoners.

cindyhove · 26/03/2025 14:46

Namechangedforgoodreasons · 26/03/2025 08:47

Could you please actually read my post and reply to all of it, not just the bit you prefer?

I’ll remind you: You rightly condemn Israelis who talk about wanting to destroy Gaza and kill Palestinians. Many Palestinian and other Muslim leaders have for many, many years talked openly about wanting to kill all Jews and destroy Israel. Did you condemn them too?

Obviously not. Jews are the scapegoat’s always. Where is the uproar about the millions being killed all over the world by others? There is not as it’s not Jews doing it! The only people who are ever held to a higher account than anyone else are Israelis and Jews. Anti semitism loudly and clearly.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to infer it was. I was stating both as two separate ways I’ve become aware of rape by Israeli soldiers.

The jump to anti semitism isn’t needed. Very few replies on here (if any) have referenced “Jews” as the problem. The problem is Israel’s response to a terrorist situation.

And I can assure you right thinking people are as outraged about any injustice as they are about this. However the realities of life in Gaza have been hugely available to see online over the last 17 months and that is what gets people talking on mainstream platforms.

Edited

Schools and hospitals were bombed during the US/UK war on terror. As I've already said, buildings get bombed, and civillians die during wars.

One terrorist who just happens to be hiding in an active school? - Probably not.
Or a school that multiple terrorists have chosen as a base because they believe that the building being "a school" is emotive enough to protect them from attack while they plan and stash for their next assault? - Flatten it.

Its how war works.

For the millionth time on this board - Israel do not have the same legal rights to use war as self defense against a people they're illegally occupying. Comparing their actions to other ears isn't useful or accurate. You can't say "that's how war works" in such a blase way when the whole of Gaza has been destroyed and Israel didn't even have the legal right to commence their assault.

Young and old die in war. True
Should they be directly targeted just because their country is at war?
Should more children than in any other recent war be killed?

They are certainly not targeting children but it’s awful how many are being killed in the war.

As I said, the war needs to stop by Hamas, a terrorist organisation, being eradicated. Otherwise they’ll continue to pose a threat to innocent Israelis. Have you heard the accounts from Israelis who were captured in October? Have you seen what happened?!

Kardamyli2 · 26/03/2025 15:42

I'm delighted to read in the news today that Gazans have woken up, smelled the coffee and are now en masse calling for the terrorist organisation that is Hamas to go. Good to see that so many Palestinians realise exactly who is the source of their misery.

Are the surgeons who gave evidence of children targeted by snipers lying? Who saw drones hover over wounded children and shoot them lying?

ArtTheClown · 26/03/2025 15:42

Israel didn't even have the legal right to commence their assault

"International law does not explicitly prohibit the use of force to eliminate an organization such as Hamas, which Israel, the United States, and many other countries consider a terrorist group. It remains important, however, that Israel’s use of force to achieve this aim abides by the right of self-defense under the UN Charter and is in accordance with the law of armed conflict and international humanitarian law."

What International Law Has to Say About the Israel-Hamas War

Hamas’s attack on Israel and the ensuing war in the Gaza Strip raise a host of questions about the combatants’ legal obligations.

I also was happy to read a report of this in the Telegraph today.

Wonder if some of the people in the West waving pro Palestinian placards will join them in making Hamas the focus of their anger.

Easy to say to flatten that school when your kids aren’t the ones being killed

I can't read this thread anymore. It's too distressing.

While folk come on here to defend Netenyahu and the actions of the IDF, real children, men and women in gaza face hell. Children roaming the rubble homeless and orphaned, women scrabbling around to find food and clothes for their small children, and a population so deeply traumatised I have no idea how they will ever recover.

I can't understand anyone defending Israel. Defending a genocide and ethnic cleansing. It rips at my insides.

BreakRulesOrFollow · 26/03/2025 15:59

Remember when a hospital was bombed in October 2023 and everyone said 'Israel would never do such a thing'.

Fast forward a year and they've flattened the whole of Gaza. No hospital left untouched, no schools still functioning, so homes left unscathed, no family alive that hasn't lost members, no child that has not seen and smelt the stench of dead bodies. Not one single person left on gaza that hasn't faced trauma and is likely deeply traumatised.

Unfathomable. Unthinkable. Inhumane.

Did you bother to read that whole article? Firstly yes international law doesn't necessarily prohibit the use of force against organisations such as Hamas however the article of law Israel are claiming isn't relevant to attacks on a country you are illegally occupying.

You'll note the article goes on to list the legal requirements Israel needs to follow, all by the way they've disregarded and done anyway claiming self defense - even more illegal.
