To think this photo is not appropriate to advertise a dress?

Is it just my raging feminist thoughts with this photo that is being used as one of the pictures of a dress offered for sale on a high street store website. Is this appropriate? I don't think it is but one might say that that is my weird view and actually it is a perfectly okay pic? (!)
I think it looks like a 'come fuck me' picture and that is not okay?!

They look out of proportion because of the way the photo was taken.

Yes I know that.

JohnTheRevelator · 22/03/2025 23:40

Is it just me,or do her feet look enormous? And the length of her leg between knee and ankle looks abnormally long. Is this a transwoman?

PickAChew · 23/03/2025 00:29

I shall try again with the image.

You're right, totally inappropriate pic - it makes her feet look HUGE!

Pupinskipops · 23/03/2025 02:23

You're allowed your opinions, of course, but it's odd that you think your opinions are those of a raging feminist...

Harmonypus · 23/03/2025 05:04

Firstly, the angle the picture has been taken from is completely wrong, it makes the girl's feet and legs look huge, and her body and head far too small, so she's all out of proportion.
I personally don't like this pose either, it's not very 'lady-like' to sit with her legs all splayed like that, plus it really doesn't show the item of clothing off well at all. You can't see whether the hem is 3inches below her knickers or just above the knee.
So no, I don't think this is either a good photo or appropriate to advertise the item off clothing.

It’s anti sexualised in my opinion, if that’s your concern.

The13thFairy · 23/03/2025 11:25

Looks like a bloke to me.

NPET · 23/03/2025 13:39

Is she peeing?
Somebody's photoshopped the toilet!

FozzieP · 23/03/2025 20:40

Awful picture. She looks deformed and pose does nothing for the dress.

FozzieP · 23/03/2025 20:41

What’s anti-sexualised?

Carity · 23/03/2025 20:44

I find the photo disturbing rather than edgy.
She is looking defensive and heroic - sort of bravely suffering, but her legs are apart in a very vulnerable position for a woman, and her hands are covering her self defensively. It is a picture that sends very conflicting messages. I suspect it’s supposed to be an edgy photograph, a bit early Face magazine, but I find it deeply worrying given that she doesn’t look in control and that there is a lot of concern at the moment for the vulnerability of women. We seem to have gone a long way back since Blair’s Ladette culture.

WonderingWanda · 23/03/2025 20:44

Nothing inappropriate about it. Useless as an advert though because I can't really tell what shape the dress is, in fact it looks like a denim shirt from that photo.

Carity · 23/03/2025 20:52

Ha! That’s interesting, now I look at it in close up, it looks like a bloke. Of course that changes the message entirely, the wide legs no longer look disturbingly vulnerable, but just very blokeish. It now looks like a normal bloke, on a chair, in a dress. In a totally normal bloke pose.Trying to look slightly defiant and punky. It now looks totally boring, and in my head I can hear the photographer congratulating himself on how edgy he’s being.
maybe it’s a female photographer, but that doesn’t feel right - authentic.

AInightingale · 23/03/2025 22:15

Maybe M&S want people to think it's a bloke?

They seem to enjoy pissing their female customers off, so it's either an extremely androgynous woman photographed at an angle to look as 'male' as possible (Size 13 feet) or an actual trans identified male.

Funny how they never use butch females of 5'3 to model men's suits isn't it?

Carity · 24/03/2025 08:22

alnightingale ha! Yes, very good point!
please m and s, stop with the woke stuff. I just want to see a dress that I might want to buy, thanks.

elgreco · 24/03/2025 08:27

They've got the weird angles thing going on in their tv adds too now. It doesn't make the clothes or models look their best, really big footed in particular.

BodyKeepingScore · 24/03/2025 12:42

Come fuck me? What exactly is it about this image that says that to you?

BusySquid · 24/03/2025 17:36

I dont think it's inappropriate, but it's definitely not selling the dress very well!

IDontHateRainbows · 25/03/2025 06:57

If you get offended by this OP, for God's sake don't ever look at the lingerie or swim wear pages!

Cheesetoastiees · 25/03/2025 07:13

Yep thats my come have sex with me position/look. Same as my sitting on the loo after a long day.

I don’t think it looks bad, she looks rather bored tho, can’t see how it advertises the dress well.

Lovethesparklylights · 25/03/2025 07:13

It looks like a man sitting in a typical man pose. Can't see the dress really but I'd assume that if the best fit was a male model it won't fit my female body at all as I am not similar in shape to a male. So I'd discount it as a potential buy.

Gettingbysomehow · 25/03/2025 07:35

Marks fails to get it right and just gets worse year after year.
They've just ditched their half size, wide fit shoe range.
I always used to get my shoes from them online as I have square feet....a half size and wide.
Now I either have to spend a fortune at Clarkes or Gabor instead although I've noticed Amazon is doing quite a wide range of half size wide fit fashion shoes now.
But you do have to wait a while for delivery as they are all imported but the fit so far has been great.

AInightingale · 27/03/2025 06:17

@Toseland 😱😱😱What the actual?!
